1 kathyamAnAnAM vAkyAnAM sArO'yam asmAkam EtAdRza EkO mahAyAjakO'sti yaH svargE mahAmahimnaH siMhAsanasya dakSiNapArzvO samupaviSTavAn
Now in the things which we are saying, the main point is this. We have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
2 yacca dUSyaM na manujaiH kintvIzvarENa sthApitaM tasya satyadUSyasya pavitravastUnAnjca sEvakaH sa bhavati|
a servant of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord set up, and not man.
3 yata EkaikO mahAyAjakO naivEdyAnAM balInAnjca dAnE niyujyatE, atO hEtOrEtasyApi kinjcid utsarjanIyaM vidyata ityAvazyakaM|
For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer.
4 kinjca sa yadi pRthivyAm asthAsyat tarhi yAjakO nAbhaviSyat, yatO yE vyavasthAnusArAt naivEdyAni dadatyEtAdRzA yAjakA vidyantE|
Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, seeing there are priests who offer the gifts according to the Law;
5 tE tu svargIyavastUnAM dRSTAntEna chAyayA ca sEvAmanutiSThanti yatO mUsasi dUSyaM sAdhayitum udyatE satIzvarastadEva tamAdiSTavAn phalataH sa tamuktavAn, yathA, "avadhEhi girau tvAM yadyannidarzanaM darzitaM tadvat sarvvANi tvayA kriyantAM|"
who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Mushe was warned when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, "See, you shall make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain."
6 kintvidAnIm asau tasmAt zrESThaM sEvakapadaM prAptavAn yataH sa zrESThapratijnjAbhiH sthApitasya zrESThaniyamasya madhyasthO'bhavat|
But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as Law.
7 sa prathamO niyamO yadi nirddOSO'bhaviSyata tarhi dvitIyasya niyamasya kimapi prayOjanaM nAbhaviSyat|
For if the first had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
8 kintu sa dOSamArOpayan tEbhyaH kathayati, yathA, "paramEzvara idaM bhASatE pazya yasmin samayE'ham isrAyElavaMzEna yihUdAvaMzEna ca sArddham EkaM navInaM niyamaM sthirIkariSyAmyEtAdRzaH samaya AyAti|
For finding fault with them, he said, "Look, the days are coming," says the Lord, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israyel and with the house of Yehudah;
9 paramEzvarO'paramapi kathayati tESAM pUrvvapuruSANAM misaradEzAd AnayanArthaM yasmin dinE'haM tESAM karaM dhRtvA taiH saha niyamaM sthirIkRtavAn taddinasya niyamAnusArENa nahi yatastai rmama niyamE lagghitE'haM tAn prati cintAM nAkaravaM|
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them," says the Lord.
10 kintu paramEzvaraH kathayati taddinAt paramahaM isrAyElavaMzIyaiH sArddham imaM niyamaM sthirIkariSyAmi, tESAM cittE mama vidhIn sthApayiSyAmi tESAM hRtpatrE ca tAn lEkhiSyAmi, aparamahaM tESAm IzvarO bhaviSyAmi tE ca mama lOkA bhaviSyanti|
"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israyel. After those days," says the Lord; "I will put my laws into their mind, I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
11 aparaM tvaM paramEzvaraM jAnIhItivAkyEna tESAmEkaikO janaH svaM svaM samIpavAsinaM bhrAtaranjca puna rna zikSayiSyati yata AkSudrAt mahAntaM yAvat sarvvE mAM jnjAsyanti|
They will not teach each one his fellow citizen, and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all will know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12 yatO hEtOrahaM tESAm adharmmAn kSamiSyE tESAM pApAnyaparAdhAMzca punaH kadApi na smariSyAmi|"
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness. I will remember their sins no more."
13 anEna taM niyamaM nUtanaM gaditvA sa prathamaM niyamaM purAtanIkRtavAn; yacca purAtanaM jIrNAnjca jAtaM tasya lOpO nikaTO 'bhavat|
In that he says, "new," he has made the first old. But that which is becoming old and grows aged is near to vanishing away.
