1 aparanjca barNabbAH, zimOn yaM nigraM vadanti, kurInIyalUkiyO hErOdA rAjnjA saha kRtavidyAbhyAsO minahEm, zaulazcaitE yE kiyantO janA bhaviSyadvAdina upadESTArazcAntiyakhiyAnagarasthamaNPalyAm Asan,
Now in the church that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Bar-Naba, Shimon who was called Niger, Luqius of Qurini, Manayeil the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Shaul.
2 tE yadOpavAsaM kRtvEzvaram asEvanta tasmin samayE pavitra AtmA kathitavAn ahaM yasmin karmmaNi barNabbAzailau niyuktavAn tatkarmma karttuM tau pRthak kuruta|
As they served the Lord and fasted, the Rukha d'Qudsha said, "Separate Bar-Naba and Shaul for me, for the work to which I have called them."
3 tatastairupavAsaprArthanayOH kRtayOH satOstE tayO rgAtrayO rhastArpaNaM kRtvA tau vyasRjan|
Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4 tataH paraM tau pavitrENAtmanA prEritau santau silUkiyAnagaram upasthAya samudrapathEna kuprOpadvIpam agacchatAM|
So, being sent out by the Rukha d'Qudsha, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.
5 tataH sAlAmInagaram upasthAya tatra yihUdIyAnAM bhajanabhavanAni gatvEzvarasya kathAM prAcArayatAM; yOhanapi tatsahacarO'bhavat|
When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had also Yukhanan as their attendant.
6 itthaM tE tasyOpadvIpasya sarvvatra bhramantaH pAphanagaram upasthitAH; tatra suvivEcakEna sarjiyapaulanAmnA taddEzAdhipatinA saha bhaviSyadvAdinO vEzadhArI baryIzunAmA yO mAyAvI yihUdI AsIt taM sAkSAt prAptavataH|
When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Yeshua,
7 taddEzAdhipa Izvarasya kathAM zrOtuM vAnjchan paulabarNabbau nyamantrayat|
who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Bar-Naba and Shaul, and sought to hear the word of God.
8 kintvilumA yaM mAyAvinaM vadanti sa dEzAdhipatiM dharmmamArgAd bahirbhUtaM karttum ayatata|
But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.
9 tasmAt zOlO'rthAt paulaH pavitrENAtmanA paripUrNaH san taM mAyAvinaM pratyananyadRSTiM kRtvAkathayat,
But Shaul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Rukha d'Qudsha, fastened his eyes on him,
10 hE narakin dharmmadvESin kauTilyaduSkarmmaparipUrNa, tvaM kiM prabhOH satyapathasya viparyyayakaraNAt kadApi na nivarttiSyasE?
and said, "Full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11 adhunA paramEzvarastava samucitaM kariSyati tEna katipayadinAni tvam andhaH san sUryyamapi na drakSyasi| tatkSaNAd rAtrivad andhakArastasya dRSTim AcchAditavAn; tasmAt tasya hastaM dharttuM sa lOkamanvicchan itastatO bhramaNaM kRtavAn|
Now, look, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
12 EnAM ghaTanAM dRSTvA sa dEzAdhipatiH prabhUpadEzAd vismitya vizvAsaM kRtavAn|
Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
13 tadanantaraM paulastatsagginau ca pAphanagarAt prOtaM cAlayitvA pamphuliyAdEzasya pargInagaram agacchan kintu yOhan tayOH samIpAd Etya yirUzAlamaM pratyAgacchat|
Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia, and Yukhanan departed from them and returned to Urishlim.
14 pazcAt tau pargItO yAtrAM kRtvA pisidiyAdEzasya AntiyakhiyAnagaram upasthAya vizrAmavArE bhajanabhavanaM pravizya samupAvizatAM|
But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.
15 vyavasthAbhaviSyadvAkyayOH paThitayOH satO rhE bhrAtarau lOkAn prati yuvayOH kAcid upadEzakathA yadyasti tarhi tAM vadataM tau prati tasya bhajanabhavanasyAdhipatayaH kathAm EtAM kathayitvA praiSayan|
After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak."
16 ataH paula uttiSThan hastEna sagkEtaM kurvvan kathitavAn hE isrAyElIyamanuSyA IzvaraparAyaNAH sarvvE lOkA yUyam avadhaddhaM|
Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, "Men of Israyel, and you who fear God, listen.
17 EtESAmisrAyEllOkAnAm IzvarO'smAkaM pUrvvaparuSAn manOnItAn katvA gRhItavAn tatO misari dEzE pravasanakAlE tESAmunnatiM kRtvA tasmAt svIyabAhubalEna tAn bahiH kRtvA samAnayat|
The God of this people Israyel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.
18 catvAriMzadvatsarAn yAvacca mahAprAntarE tESAM bharaNaM kRtvA
For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.
19 kinAndEzAntarvvarttINi saptarAjyAni nAzayitvA guTikApAtEna tESu sarvvadEzESu tEbhyO'dhikAraM dattavAn|
When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.
20 panjcAzadadhikacatuHzatESu vatsarESu gatESu ca zimUyElbhaviSyadvAdiparyyantaM tESAmupari vicArayitRn niyuktavAn|
All this took about four hundred and fifty years. And after these things he gave them judges, until Shemuyel the prophet.
21 taizca rAjnji prArthitE, IzvarO binyAmInO vaMzajAtasya kIzaH putraM zaulaM catvAriMzadvarSaparyyantaM tESAmupari rAjAnaM kRtavAn|
Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Shaul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benyamin, for forty years.
22 pazcAt taM padacyutaM kRtvA yO madiSTakriyAH sarvvAH kariSyati tAdRzaM mama manObhimatam EkaM janaM yizayaH putraM dAyUdaM prAptavAn idaM pramANaM yasmin dAyUdi sa dattavAn taM dAyUdaM tESAmupari rAjatvaM karttum utpAditavAna|
When he had removed him, he raised up Dawid to be their king, to whom he also testified, 'I have found Dawid the son of Ishai, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.'
23 tasya svapratizrutasya vAkyasyAnusArENa isrAyEllOkAnAM nimittaM tESAM manuSyANAM vaMzAd Izvara EkaM yIzuM (trAtAram) udapAdayat|
From this man's offspring, according to his promise, God has brought to Israyel a Savior, Yeshua,
24 tasya prakAzanAt pUrvvaM yOhan isrAyEllOkAnAM sannidhau manaHparAvarttanarUpaM majjanaM prAcArayat|
before his coming, when Yukhanan had first preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israyel.
25 yasya ca karmmaNO bhAraM praptavAn yOhan tan niSpAdayan EtAM kathAM kathitavAn, yUyaM mAM kaM janaM jAnItha? aham abhiSiktatrAtA nahi, kintu pazyata yasya pAdayOH pAdukayO rbandhanE mOcayitumapi yOgyO na bhavAmi tAdRza EkO janO mama pazcAd upatiSThati|
As Yukhanan was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But look, one comes after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'
26 hE ibrAhImO vaMzajAtA bhrAtarO hE IzvarabhItAH sarvvalOkA yuSmAn prati paritrANasya kathaiSA prEritA|
Brothers, children of the stock of Avraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to us.
27 yirUzAlamnivAsinastESAm adhipatayazca tasya yIzOH paricayaM na prApya prativizrAmavAraM paThyamAnAnAM bhaviSyadvAdikathAnAm abhiprAyam abuddhvA ca tasya vadhEna tAH kathAH saphalA akurvvan|
For those who dwell in Urishlim, and their rulers, because they did not know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
28 prANahananasya kamapi hEtum aprApyApi pIlAtasya nikaTE tasya vadhaM prArthayanta|
Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.
29 tasmin yAH kathA likhitAH santi tadanusArENa karmma sampAdya taM kruzAd avatAryya zmazAnE zAyitavantaH|
When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree, and placed him in a tomb.
30 kintvIzvaraH zmazAnAt tamudasthApayat,
But God raised him from the dead,
31 punazca gAlIlapradEzAd yirUzAlamanagaraM tEna sArddhaM yE lOkA Agacchan sa bahudinAni tEbhyO darzanaM dattavAn, atasta idAnIM lOkAn prati tasya sAkSiNaH santi|
and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galila to Urishlim, who are his witnesses to the people.
32 asmAkaM pUrvvapuruSANAM samakSam IzvarO yasmin pratijnjAtavAn yathA, tvaM mE putrOsi cAdya tvAM samutthApitavAnaham|
We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,
33 idaM yadvacanaM dvitIyagItE likhitamAstE tad yIzOrutthAnEna tESAM santAnA yE vayam asmAkaM sannidhau tEna pratyakSI kRtaM, yuSmAn imaM susaMvAdaM jnjApayAmi|
that God has fulfilled for us, their children, in that he raised up Yeshua. As it is also written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.'
34 paramEzvarENa zmazAnAd utthApitaM tadIyaM zarIraM kadApi na kSESyatE, Etasmin sa svayaM kathitavAn yathA dAyUdaM prati pratijnjAtO yO varastamahaM tubhyaM dAsyAmi|
"Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: 'I will give to you the faithful sacred things of Dawid.'
35 Etadanyasmin gItE'pi kathitavAn| svakIyaM puNyavantaM tvaM kSayituM na ca dAsyasi|
Therefore he says also in another psalm, 'You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.'
36 dAyUdA IzvarAbhimatasEvAyai nijAyuSi vyayitE sati sa mahAnidrAM prApya nijaiH pUrvvapuruSaiH saha militaH san akSIyata;
For Dawid, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was placed with his fathers, and saw decay.
37 kintu yamIzvaraH zmazAnAd udasthApayat sa nAkSIyata|
But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
38 atO hE bhrAtaraH, anEna janEna pApamOcanaM bhavatIti yuSmAn prati pracAritam AstE|
Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you forgiveness of sins,
39 phalatO mUsAvyavasthayA yUyaM yEbhyO dOSEbhyO muktA bhavituM na zakSyatha tEbhyaH sarvvadOSEbhya Etasmin janE vizvAsinaH sarvvE muktA bhaviSyantIti yuSmAbhi rjnjAyatAM|
and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Law of Mushe.
40 aparanjca| avajnjAkAriNO lOkAzcakSurunmIlya pazyata| tathaivAsambhavaM jnjAtvA syAta yUyaM vilajjitAH| yatO yuSmAsu tiSThatsu kariSyE karmma tAdRzaM| yEnaiva tasya vRttAntE yuSmabhyaM kathitE'pi hi| yUyaM na tantu vRttAntaM pratyESyatha kadAcana||
So beware, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about:
41 yEyaM kathA bhaviSyadvAdinAM granthESu likhitAstE sAvadhAnA bhavata sa kathA yathA yuSmAn prati na ghaTatE|
'Look, you scoffers, and be amazed, and perish; for I am working a work in your days, a work which you will not believe, if one tells it to you.'"
42 yihUdIyabhajanabhavanAn nirgatayOstayO rbhinnadEzIyai rvakSyamANA prArthanA kRtA, AgAmini vizrAmavArE'pi kathEyam asmAn prati pracAritA bhavatviti|
So when they went out they urged them to speak about these things on the next Sabbath.
43 sabhAyA bhaggE sati bahavO yihUdIyalOkA yihUdIyamatagrAhiNO bhaktalOkAzca barNabbApaulayOH pazcAd Agacchan, tEna tau taiH saha nAnAkathAH kathayitvEzvarAnugrahAzrayE sthAtuM tAn prAvarttayatAM|
Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Bar-Naba; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
44 paravizrAmavArE nagarasya prAyENa sarvvE lAkA IzvarIyAM kathAM zrOtuM militAH,
The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord.
45 kintu yihUdIyalOkA jananivahaM vilOkya IrSyayA paripUrNAH santO viparItakathAkathanEnEzvaranindayA ca paulEnOktAM kathAM khaNPayituM cESTitavantaH|
But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him.
46 tataH paulabarNabbAvakSObhau kathitavantau prathamaM yuSmAkaM sannidhAvIzvarIyakathAyAH pracAraNam ucitamAsIt kintuM tadagrAhyatvakaraNEna yUyaM svAn anantAyuSO'yOgyAn darzayatha, EtatkAraNAd vayam anyadEzIyalOkAnAM samIpaM gacchAmaH| (aiōnios )
Paul and Bar-Naba spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, look, we turn to the non-Jewish people. (aiōnios )
47 prabhurasmAn ittham AdiSTavAn yathA, yAvacca jagataH sImAM lOkAnAM trANakAraNAt| mayAnyadEzamadhyE tvaM sthApitO bhUH pradIpavat||
For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.'"
48 tadA kathAmIdRzIM zrutvA bhinnadEzIyA AhlAditAH santaH prabhOH kathAM dhanyAM dhanyAm avadan, yAvantO lOkAzca paramAyuH prAptinimittaM nirUpitA Asan tE vyazvasan| (aiōnios )
As the non-Jewish people heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord. As many as were appointed to everlasting life believed. (aiōnios )
49 itthaM prabhOH kathA sarvvEdEzaM vyApnOt|
The Lord's word was spread abroad throughout all the region.
50 kintu yihUdIyA nagarasya pradhAnapuruSAn sammAnyAH kathipayA bhaktA yOSitazca kupravRttiM grAhayitvA paulabarNabbau tAPayitvA tasmAt pradEzAd dUrIkRtavantaH|
But the Jews stirred up the devout women of prominence and the leading men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Bar-Naba, and threw them out of their borders.
51 ataH kAraNAt tau nijapadadhUlIstESAM prAtikUlyEna pAtayitvEkaniyaM nagaraM gatau|
But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
52 tataH ziSyagaNa AnandEna pavitrENAtmanA ca paripUrNObhavat|
The disciples were filled with joy with the Rukha d'Qudsha.
