1 hE mama putra, khrISTayIzutO yO'nugrahastasya balEna tvaM balavAn bhava|
You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Meshikha Yeshua.
2 aparaM bahubhiH sAkSibhiH pramANIkRtAM yAM zikSAM zrutavAnasi tAM vizvAsyESu parasmai zikSAdAnE nipuNESu ca lOkESu samarpaya|
The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful people, who will be able to teach others also.
3 tvaM yIzukhrISTasyOttamO yOddhEva klEzaM sahasva|
You therefore must share in hardship, as a good soldier of Meshikha Yeshua.
4 yO yuddhaM karOti sa sAMsArikE vyApArE magnO na bhavati kintu svaniyOjayitrE rOcituM cESTatE|
No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
5 aparaM yO mallai ryudhyati sa yadi niyamAnusArENa na yuddhyati tarhi kirITaM na lapsyatE|
Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he has competed by the rules.
6 aparaM yaH kRSIvalaH karmma karOti tEna prathamEna phalabhAginA bhavitavyaM|
The farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops.
7 mayA yaducyatE tat tvayA budhyatAM yataH prabhustubhyaM sarvvatra buddhiM dAsyati|
Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
8 mama susaMvAdasya vacanAnusArAd dAyUdvaMzIyaM mRtagaNamadhyAd utthApitanjca yIzuM khrISTaM smara|
Remember Yeshua Meshikha, risen from the dead, a descendant of Dawid, according to my Good News,
9 tatsusaMvAdakAraNAd ahaM duSkarmmEva bandhanadazAparyyantaM klEzaM bhunjjE kintvIzvarasya vAkyam abaddhaM tiSThati|
in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God's word is not chained.
10 khrISTEna yIzunA yad anantagauravasahitaM paritrANaM jAyatE tadabhirucitai rlOkairapi yat labhyEta tadarthamahaM tESAM nimittaM sarvvANyEtAni sahE| (aiōnios )
Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones' sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Meshikha Yeshua with everlasting glory. (aiōnios )
11 aparam ESA bhAratI satyA yadi vayaM tEna sArddhaM mriyAmahE tarhi tEna sArddhaM jIvivyAmaH, yadi ca klEzaM sahAmahE tarhi tEna sArddhaM rAjatvamapi kariSyAmahE|
This saying is faithful: "For if we died with him, we will also live with him.
12 yadi vayaM tam anaggIkurmmastarhi sO 'smAnapyanaggIkariSyati|
If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.
13 yadi vayaM na vizvAsAmastarhi sa vizvAsyastiSThati yataH svam apahnOtuM na zaknOti|
If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself."
14 tvamEtAni smArayan tE yathA niSphalaM zrOtRNAM bhraMzajanakaM vAgyuddhaM na kuryyastathA prabhOH samakSaM dRPhaM vinIyAdiza|
Remind them of these things, charging them in the presence of God, not to wrangle about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.
15 aparaM tvam Izvarasya sAkSAt svaM parIkSitam anindanIyakarmmakAriNanjca satyamatasya vAkyAnAM sadvibhajanE nipuNanjca darzayituM yatasva|
Do your best to present yourself approved by God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, properly handling the word of truth.
16 kintvapavitrA anarthakakathA dUrIkuru yatastadAlambina uttarOttaram adharmmE varddhiSyantE,
But shun empty chatter, for they will proceed further in ungodliness,
17 tESAnjca vAkyaM galitakSatavat kSayavarddhakO bhaviSyati tESAM madhyE huminAyaH philItazcEtinAmAnau dvau janau satyamatAd bhraSTau jAtau,
and their word will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 mRtAnAM punarutthiti rvyatItEti vadantau kESAnjcid vizvAsam utpATayatazca|
who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.
19 tathApIzvarasya bhittimUlam acalaM tiSThati tasmiMzcEyaM lipi rmudrAgkitA vidyatE| yathA, jAnAti paramEzastu svakIyAn sarvvamAnavAn| apagacchEd adharmmAcca yaH kazcit khrISTanAmakRt||
However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."
20 kintu bRhannikEtanE kEvala suvarNamayAni raupyamayANi ca bhAjanAni vidyanta iti tarhi kASThamayAni mRNmayAnyapi vidyantE tESAnjca kiyanti sammAnAya kiyantapamAnAya ca bhavanti|
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.
21 atO yadi kazcid EtAdRzEbhyaH svaM pariSkarOti tarhi sa pAvitaM prabhOH kAryyayOgyaM sarvvasatkAryyAyOpayuktaM sammAnArthakanjca bhAjanaM bhaviSyati|
If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master's use, prepared for every good work.
22 yauvanAvasthAyA abhilASAstvayA parityajyantAM dharmmO vizvAsaH prEma yE ca zucimanObhiH prabhum uddizya prArthanAM kurvvatE taiH sArddham aikyabhAvazcaitESu tvayA yatnO vidhIyatAM|
Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 aparaM tvam anarthakAn ajnjAnAMzca praznAn vAgyuddhOtpAdakAn jnjAtvA dUrIkuru|
But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.
24 yataH prabhO rdAsEna yuddham akarttavyaM kintu sarvvAn prati zAntEna zikSAdAnEcchukEna sahiSNunA ca bhavitavyaM, vipakSAzca tEna namratvEna cEtitavyAH|
The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,
25 tathA kRtE yadIzvaraH satyamatasya jnjAnArthaM tEbhyO manaHparivarttanarUpaM varaM dadyAt,
in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
26 tarhi tE yEna zayatAnEna nijAbhilASasAdhanAya dhRtAstasya jAlAt cEtanAM prApyOddhAraM labdhuM zakSyanti|
and they may recover themselves out of the devil's snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.
