1 mama prathama AdEzO'yaM, prArthanAvinayanivEdanadhanyavAdAH karttavyAH,
I EXHORT therefore, first of all, that there be offered supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings for the whole race of mankind:
2 sarvvESAM mAnavAnAM kRtE vizESatO vayaM yat zAntatvEna nirvvirOdhatvEna cEzcarabhaktiM vinItatvanjcAcarantaH kAlaM yApayAmastadarthaM nRpatInAm uccapadasthAnAnjca kRtE tE karttavyAH|
for kings, and all that are in a state of eminence, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and seriousness.
3 yatO'smAkaM tArakasyEzvarasya sAkSAt tadEvOttamaM grAhyanjca bhavati,
For this is becoming, and acceptable before God our Saviour;
4 sa sarvvESAM mAnavAnAM paritrANaM satyajnjAnaprAptinjcEcchati|
who wills all men to be saved, and come to the acknowledgment of truth.
5 yata EkO'dvitIya IzvarO vidyatE kinjcEzvarE mAnavESu caikO 'dvitIyO madhyasthaH
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 sa narAvatAraH khrISTO yIzu rvidyatE yaH sarvvESAM muktE rmUlyam AtmadAnaM kRtavAn| EtEna yEna pramANEnOpayuktE samayE prakAzitavyaM,
who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony to be born in his appointed times;
7 tadghOSayitA dUtO vizvAsE satyadharmmE ca bhinnajAtIyAnAm upadEzakazcAhaM nyayUjyE, EtadahaM khrISTasya nAmnA yathAtathyaM vadAmi nAnRtaM kathayAmi|
of which I am ordained a preacher and apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, I lie not, ) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8 atO mamAbhimatamidaM puruSaiH krOdhasandEhau vinA pavitrakarAn uttOlya sarvvasmin sthAnE prArthanA kriyatAM|
I will then that men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands without wrath or doubting:

in like manner also that the women dress themselves in decent apparel, with modesty and sobriety; not with plaited tresses, or gold, or pearls, or very costly clothing,
10 svIkRtEzvarabhaktInAM yOSitAM yOgyaiH satyarmmabhiH svabhUSaNaM kurvvatAM|
but as becometh women professing godliness, with good works.
11 nArI sampUrNavinItatvEna nirvirOdhaM zikSatAM|
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection:
12 nAryyAH zikSAdAnaM puruSAyAjnjAdAnaM vAhaM nAnujAnAmi tayA nirvvirOdhatvam AcaritavyaM|
for I permit not a woman to teach in public, or to assume authority over the man, but to abide in silence.
13 yataH prathamam AdamastataH paraM havAyAH sRSTi rbabhUva|
For Adam was first formed, Eve afterwards.
14 kinjcAdam bhrAntiyuktO nAbhavat yOSidEva bhrAntiyuktA bhUtvAtyAcAriNI babhUva|
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, by transgression fell.
15 tathApi nArIgaNO yadi vizvAsE prEmni pavitratAyAM saMyatamanasi ca tiSThati tarhyapatyaprasavavartmanA paritrANaM prApsyati|
But she shall be saved through childbearing, if they abide in faith, and love, and holiness with sobriety.
