Psalmii 49

1 Mai marelui muzician, un psalm pentru fiii lui Core. Ascultați aceasta toate popoarele; deschideți urechea toți locuitorii lumii,

For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core. Hear these words, all you nations, listen, all you that dwell upon the earth:

2 Deopotrivă cei de rând și cei înălțați, bogați și săraci împreună.

both the sons of mean men, and sons of [great] men; the rich and poor [man] together.

3 Gura mea va vorbi despre înțelepciune și meditația inimii mele va fi cu pricepere.

My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall bring [forth] understanding.

4 Îmi voi apleca urechea la parabolă, voi deschide vorba mea adâncă pe harpă.

I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my riddle on the harp.

5 Pentru ce m-aș teme în zilele răului, când nelegiuirea călcâielor mele mă va înconjura?

Therefore should I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall compass me.

6 Cei ce se încred în averea lor și se fălesc cu mulțimea bogățiilor lor;

They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth—

7 Nimeni nu poate în niciun fel răscumpăra pe fratele său, nici să dea lui Dumnezeu răscumpărare pentru el,

A brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? he shall not give to God a ransom for himself,

8 (Fiindcă răscumpărarea sufletului lor este prețioasă și încetează pentru totdeauna),

or the price of the redemption of his soul, though he labor for ever,

9 Ca totuși să trăiască pentru totdeauna și să nu vadă putrezire.

and live to the end, [so] that he should not see corruption.

10 Pentru că el vede că oameni înțelepți mor, la fel prostul și neghiobul pier și își lasă averea altora.

When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers.

11 Gândul lor lăuntric este că le vor dăinui casele pentru totdeauna și locuințele lor din generație în generație; își numesc pământurile după numele lor.

And their sepulchres are their houses for ever, [even] their tabernacles to all generations: they have called their lands after their own names.

12 Cu toate acestea omul onorat nu dăinuiește, este ca animalele care pier.

And man being in honor, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like to them.

13 Această cale a lor este nebunia lor, totuși posteritatea lor le aprobă spusele. (Selah)

This their way is an offense to them: yet afterwards men will commend their sayings. (Pause)

14 Sunt puși în mormânt ca oile; moartea se va hrăni din ei; și cei integri vor domni asupra lor dimineața; și frumusețea lor se va mistui în mormântul care este locuința lor. (Sheol h7585)

They have laid [them] as sheep in Hades; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their help shall fail in Hades from their glory. (Sheol h7585)

15 Dar Dumnezeu va răscumpăra sufletul meu din puterea mormântului, căci el mă va primi. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)

But God shall deliver my soul from the power of Hades, when he shall receive me. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)

16 Nu te teme când cineva se îmbogățește, când crește gloria casei sale;

Fear not when a man is enriched, and when the glory of his house is increased.

17 Căci nu va duce nimic cu el când moare, gloria sa nu va coborî după el.

For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him.

18 Deși în timp ce a trăit și-a binecuvântat sufletul, și oamenii te vor lăuda când îți faci bine,

For his soul shall be blessed in his life: he shall give thanks to you when you do well to him.

19 El va merge la generația părinților săi; ei nu vor vedea niciodată lumină.

[Yet] he shall go in to the generation of his fathers; he shall never see light.

20 Omul în onoare și fără înțelegere este ca animalele care pier.

Man that is in honor, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like them.
