Proverbe 9
1 Înțelepciunea și-a zidit casa, și-a dăltuit cele șapte coloane;
Wisdom, hath builded her house, hath hewn out her seven pillars;
2 Și-a înjunghiat animalele, și-a amestecat vinul, și-a pregătit și masa.
hath slaughtered her beasts, hath mingled her wine, hath even set in order her table;
3 Și-a trimis înainte servitoarele; ea strigă în locurile cele mai înalte ale cetății:
hath sent forth her maidens, She crieth aloud, upon the tops of the heights of the city:
4 Oricine este simplu, să se abată aici; și celui ce îi lipsește înțelegere îi spune:
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him—
5 Vino, mănâncă din pâinea mea și bea din vinul pe care l-am amestecat.
Come, feed on my food, and drink of the wine I have mingled;
6 Părăsește pe nebuni și vei trăi; și mergi pe calea înțelegerii.
Forsake the simple ones, and live, and advance in the way of understanding.
7 Cel ce mustră un batjocoritor își aduce rușine; și cel ce ceartă un om stricat își aduce lui însuși o pată.
He that rebuketh a scoffer, getteth to himself contempt, and, he that reproveth a lawless man, [getteth to himself] his shame.
8 Nu mustra un batjocoritor, ca nu cumva să te urască; ceartă un om înțelept și te va iubi.
Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate thee, Reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Dă învățătură unui om înțelept și el va fi tot mai înțelept; învață un om drept și el va crește în învățătură.
Give to a wise man, and he will be wiser still, Inform a righteous man, and he will increase learning.
10 Teama de DOMNUL este începutul înțelepciunii, și cunoașterea celui sfânt este înțelegere.
The beginning of wisdom, is the reverence of Yahweh, and, the knowledge of the Holy, is understanding;
11 Fiindcă prin mine zilele tale vor fi înmulțite și ani vor fi adăugați vieții tale.
For, by me, shall be multiplied—thy days, and there be added to thee—the years of life.
12 Dacă ești înțelept, pentru tine însuți ești înțelept; dar dacă batjocorești, singur o vei purta.
If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself, but, if thou scoff, alone, shalt thou bear it.
13 O femeie nechibzuită este gălăgioasă; ea este proastă și nu știe nimic.
The woman Stupidity, is boisterous, so simple that she knoweth not what she would do;
14 Fiindcă ea șade la ușa casei ei, pe un scaun, în locurile înalte ale cetății,
So she sitteth at the entrance of her house, upon a seat, in the heights of the city;
15 Ca să cheme trecători care merg drept pe căile lor;
To invite them who pass by the way, who are going straight on in their paths:
16 Orice simplu, să se abată pe aici; și celui ce îi lipsește înțelegerea, îi spune:
Whoso is simple, let him turn aside hither, and, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him:
17 Apele furate sunt dulci și pâinea mâncată în taină este plăcută.
Stolen waters, will be sweet, —and a secret meal, will be pleasant;
