Proverbe 30
1 Cuvintele lui Agur, fiul lui Iache, profeția; omul i-a vorbit lui Itiel, chiar lui Itiel și lui Ucal;
The words of Agur the son of Yakeh, even the prophecy: the man said unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ukkal,
2 Cu siguranță, eu sunt mai neghiob decât oricare om și nu am înțelegerea unui om.
“Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a common man.
3 Nici nu am învățat înțelepciune, nici nu am cunoașterea celui sfânt.
Nor have I learned wisdom, so that I should have knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Cine a urcat în cer, sau a coborât? Cine a strâns vântul în pumnii săi? Cine a legat apele într-o manta? Cine a întemeiat toate marginile pământului? Care este numele lui și care este numele fiului său, dacă poți spune?
Who was it that ascended into heaven, and came down again? who gathered the wind in his fists? who bound the waters in a garment? who set up all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest it?”
5 Fiecare cuvânt al lui Dumnezeu este pur; el este un scut pentru cei ce își pun încrederea în el.
Every saying of God is purified: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.
6 Nu adăuga la cuvintele lui, ca nu cumva să te mustre și să fii găsit mincinos.
Do not add aught unto his words: lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Două lucruri am cerut de la tine; nu mi le refuza înainte să mor;
Two things do I request of thee: deny them not to me before I die.
8 Îndepărtează de la mine deșertăciune și minciuni, nu îmi da nici sărăcie, nici bogăție; hrănește-mă cu mâncare potrivită mie,
Vanity and lying words do thou remove far from me: neither poverty nor riches give thou unto me; let me eat the bread appointed unto me:
9 Ca nu cumva să fiu sătul și să te neg și să spun: Cine este DOMNUL? Sau ca nu cumva să fiu sărac și să fur și să iau numele Dumnezeului meu în deșert.
Lest I become over-full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I become poor, and steal, and trespass against the name of my God.
10 Nu acuza pe un servitor stăpânului său, ca nu cumva să te blesteme și să fii găsit vinovat.
Do not calumniate a servant unto his master: lest he curse thee, and thou incur guilt.
11 Este o generație care blestemă pe tatăl lor și nu binecuvântează pe mama lor.
There is a generation that curseth its father, and doth not bless its mother.
12 Este o generație care este pură în propriii ochi și totuși nu este spălată de murdăria lor.
There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, and yet is not washed [clean] of its filthiness.
13 Este o generație, cât de îngâmfați sunt ochii lor! Și pleoapele lor sunt înălțate.
There is a generation—O how lofty are its eyes! and its eyelids are so lifted up.
14 Este o generație a căror dinți sunt ca săbiile și a căror colți sunt ca niște cuțite, ca să mănânce pe sărac de pe fața pământului și pe nevoiaș din mijlocul oamenilor.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and whose string teeth are as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 Lipitoarea are două fiice care strigă: Dă, dă! Sunt trei lucruri care nu sunt niciodată săturate, da, patru sunt lucrurile care nu spun: Este destul:
Insatiability hath two daughters, [crying, ] Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things which never say, Enough:
16 Mormântul și pântecele sterp și pământul care nu este umplut cu apă și focul care nu spune: Este destul! (Sheol h7585)
The nether world; and a barren womb; the earth which is not satisfied with water; and the fire which never saith, Enough. (Sheol h7585)
17 Ochiul care își bate joc de tată și disprețuiește ascultarea de mama sa, corbii din vale îl vor smulge și acvilele tinere îl vor mânca.
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, this shall the ravens of the valley pick out; and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 Sunt trei lucruri prea minunate pentru mine, da, patru lucruri pe care nu le cunosc:
Three things there are which are too wonderful for me; and four, which I know not:
19 Calea unei acvile în văzduh [și] calea unui șarpe pe stâncă [și] calea unei corăbii în mijlocul mării și calea unui bărbat cu o tânără.
The way of the eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the heart of the sea; and the way of a man with a young woman.
20 Astfel este calea unei femei adultere: mănâncă, își șterge gura și spune: Nu am făcut nicio stricăciune.
Such is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wrong.
21 Pentru trei lucruri pământul este neliniștit și pentru patru nu mai poate suporta:
Under three things the earth trembleth, and under four which she cannot bear:
22 Pentru un rob când domnește și un prost când este săturat cu mâncare,
Under a servant when he becometh king, and a worthless fool when he hath eaten enough bread;
23 Pentru o femeie odioasă când se căsătorește; și o roabă ce este moștenitoarea stăpânei ei.
Under an odious woman when she is married, and a bond-woman when she dispossesseth her mistress.
24 Patru lucruri sunt mici pe pământ, dar sunt foarte înțelepte:
There are four which are the little ones of the earth, and they are nevertheless exceedingly wise:
25 Furnicile sunt un popor fără putere, totuși își pregătesc mâncarea în timpul verii;
The ants are a people not strong, therefore do they prepare in the summer their food;
26 Iepurii de stâncă sunt doar un popor firav, totuși își fac locuințele în stânci;
The conies are but a feeble people, therefore do they place on the rocks their houses;
27 Lăcustele nu au împărat, totuși merg înainte în cete;
The locusts have no king, and yet they go forth in troops altogether;
28 Păianjenul se agață cu mâinile lui și este în palatele împăraților.
The spider thou canst catch with [thy] hands, and yet she is in the palaces of a king.
29 Trei sunt lucrurile care merg bine, da, patru sunt frumoase în umblarea lor:
Three there are that have a stately step, and four, that are stately in going:
30 Un leu care este cel mai puternic între fiare și nu se dă înapoi în fața niciuneia;
The lion, the mightiest among beasts, who turneth not round from before any one;
31 Un ogar, de asemenea un țap și un împărat, împotriva căruia nu este răzvrătire.
The light-legged greyhound, and the he-goat; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
32 Dacă ai lucrat prostește în a te înălța, sau dacă ai plănuit răul, acoperă-ți gura cu mâna.
If thou hast become degraded by lifting up thyself, or if thou hast devised evil, put thy hand to thy mouth:
33 Cu siguranță baterea laptelui aduce unt și răsucirea nasului aduce sânge; tot așa forțarea furiei aduce ceartă.
For the pressure of milk bringeth forth butter, and the pressure of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the pressure of wrath bringeth forth strife.
