Proverbe 27
1 Nu te făli cu ziua de mâine, fiindcă nu știi ce poate aduce o zi.
Do not boast thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Altul să te laude și nu gura ta; un străin și nu buzele tale.
Let another praise thee, and not thine own mouth, a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 O piatră este grea și nisipul este greu, dar furia nebunului este mai grea decât amândouă.
Heavy is a stone, and weighty is sand, —but, the vexation of a fool, is heavier than both.
4 Furia este crudă și mânia cumplită, dar cine este în stare să stea în picioare în fața invidiei?
The cruelty of rage, and the overflow of anger! But who can stand before, jealousy?
5 Mustrarea pe față este mai bună decât iubirea tainică.
Better is a rebuke that is open, than love carefully concealed.
6 Credincioase sunt rănile unui prieten, dar sărutările unui dușman sunt înșelătoare.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but lavished are the kisses of an enemy.
7 Sufletul sătul se scârbește de un fagure, dar pentru sufletul flămând fiecare lucru amar este dulce.
The surfeited soul, trampleth upon droppings from the comb, but, to the hungry soul, every bitter thing, is sweet.
8 Precum o pasăre ce rătăcește de la cuibul ei, așa este un om ce rătăcește de la locul lui.
As a bird wandering from her nest, so, is a man wandering from his place.
9 Untdelemnul și parfumul bucură inima; așa face dulceața prietenului unui om prin sfat inimos.
Oil and perfume, rejoice the heart, the sweetness of one’s friend, more than fragrant wood.
10 Nu părăsi pe prietenul tău și nici pe prietenul tatălui tău; nici nu intra în casa fratelui tău în ziua nenorocirii tale; fiindcă mai bun este un vecin aproape, decât un frate îndepărtat.
Thine own friend and thy father’s friend, do not thou forsake; but, the house of thy brother, do not enter, in thy day of calamity, Better a neighbour near, than a brother far off.
11 Fiul meu, fii înțelept și înveselește-mi inima, ca să răspund celui ce mă ocărăște.
Be wise, my son, and rejoice my heart, that I may answer him that reproacheth me in a matter.
12 Un om chibzuit prevede răul și se ascunde, dar simplii merg înainte și sunt pedepsiți.
A prudent man, seeth calamity—he hideth himself, the simple, pass on—they suffer.
13 Ia-i haina celui care este garant pentru un străin; și ia o garanție de la el pentru o femeie străină.
Take a man’s garment when he hath become pledge for a stranger, then, for a female unknown, accept him as surety.
14 Cel ce binecuvântează pe prietenul său cu voce tare, sculându-se devreme de dimineață, aceasta i se va considera un blestem.
He that blesseth his friend, with a loud voice, in the morning early, a reproach, shall it be reckoned to him.
15 O picurare neîncetată într-o zi foarte ploioasă și o femeie certăreață sunt la fel.
A continuous dripping on a day of downpour, and a contentious wife, are alike:
16 Oricine o ascunde, ascunde vântul și untdelemnul din mâna lui dreaptă, care se trădează.
He that hideth her, hideth the wind, and, perfume, his right hand may proclaim.
17 Fier ascute fier; tot așa un om ascute înfățișarea prietenului său.
Let, iron, by iron, become sharp, and let, a man, sharpen the face of his friend.
18 Oricine ține smochinul va mânca din rodul lui; tot așa cel ce îngrijește pe stăpânul său va fi onorat.
He that guardeth the fig-tree, shall eat the fruit thereof, and, he that watcheth over his master, shall be honoured.
19 Precum în apă, fața răspunde feței, tot așa inima omului răspunde omului.
As in water, face [answereth] to face, so, the heart of man to man.
20 Iadul și nimicirea nu sunt pline niciodată; tot așa, ochii omului nu sunt săturați niciodată. (Sheol h7585)
Hades and destruction, are not satisfied, and, the eyes of a man, are not satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 Precum creuzetul pentru argint și cuptorul pentru aur, așa este un om, laudei sale.
Fining pot for silver, and crucible for gold, and, a man, [is to be tried] by what he praiseth.
22 Chiar dacă ai pisa un nebun în piuă printre grăunțe cu un pisălog, totuși nechibzuința lui nu se va depărta de el.
Though thou pound a fool in a mortar, amidst grain, with a pestle, his folly, will not depart from him.
23 Fii atent ca să cunoști starea turmelor tale și privește bine cirezile tale.
Note well, the appearance of thy flock, apply thy mind to thy herds;
24 Deoarece bogățiile nu sunt pentru totdeauna; și coroana durează din generație în generație?
For, not age-abiding, are riches, nor is the diadem, from generation to generation: —
25 Fânul se arată și iarba nouă apare și ierburile munților sunt strânse.
The grass, is taken away, and the young shoot, showeth itself, and the herbage of the mountains, is gathered;
26 Mieii sunt pentru îmbrăcămintea ta și caprele sunt prețul câmpului.
There are, lambs, for thy clothing, and, for the price of thy field, there are he-goats;
27 Și vei avea destul lapte de capră pentru mâncarea ta, pentru mâncarea casei tale și pentru întreținerea servitoarelor tale.
With, enough goats-milk, for thy food—for the food of thy household, and, a maintenance, for thy maidens.
