Proverbe 25
1 Acestea sunt de asemenea proverbe ale lui Solomon, pe care bărbații lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda, le-au transcris.
These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 Este gloria lui Dumnezeu să ascundă un lucru, dar onoarea împăraților este să cerceteze un lucru.
[It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings [is] to search out a matter.
3 Cerul pentru înălțime, pământul pentru adâncime și inima împăraților este de nepătruns.
The heaven for hight, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
4 Îndepărtează zgura de pe argint și argintarului îi va ieși un vas.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Înlătură pe cel stricat dinaintea împăratului și tronul lui va fi întemeiat în dreptate.
Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Nu te semeți în prezența împăratului și nu sta în picioare în locul celor mari;
Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:
7 Fiindcă mai bine este să ți se spună: Vino aici sus; decât să fii înjosit în prezența prințului pe care ochii tăi l-au văzut.
For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
8 Nu te grăbi să te arunci la ceartă, ca nu cumva în cele din urmă să nu știi ce să faci, când aproapele tău te face de rușine.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
9 Dezbate cauza ta cu aproapele tău și nu dezvălui o taină altuia,
Debate thy cause with thy neighbor [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:
10 Ca nu cumva să te facă de rușine cel ce îl aude și dezonoarea ta să nu o poți înlătura.
Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
11 Un cuvânt spus la timp potrivit, este ca mere de aur încrustate în argint.
A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 Ca un cercel de aur și ca o podoabă de aur pur, așa este un mustrător înțelept asupra urechii ascultătoare.
[As] an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 Ca răceala zăpezii în timpul secerișului, așa este un mesager credincios pentru cei ce îl trimit, fiindcă răcorește sufletul stăpânilor lui.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Oricine se fălește cu un dar fals este ca norii și vântul fără ploaie.
Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
15 Prin îndelungă răbdare este un prinț convins și o limbă blândă zdrobește osul.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Ai găsit miere? Mănâncă atât cât să îți fie de ajuns, ca nu cumva să te saturi de aceasta și să o vomiți.
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
17 Retrage-ți piciorul din casa aproapelui tău, ca nu cumva să se sature de tine și să te urască.
Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
18 Un om care aduce o mărturie falsă împotriva aproapelui său este un baros și o sabie și o săgeată ascuțită.
A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Încrederea într-un om necredincios în timp de tulburare este ca un dinte rupt și un picior scrântit.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 Ca cel ce îți scoate haina pe vreme rece și ca oțetul pe silitră, așa este cel ce cântă cântece unei inimi îndurerate.
[As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre; so [is] he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Dacă dușmanul tău este flămând, dă-i să mănânce pâine; și dacă este însetat, dă-i să bea apă;
If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
22 Fiindcă vei îngrămădi cărbuni încinși pe capul lui și DOMNUL te va răsplăti.
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
23 Vântul de nord alungă ploaia; tot așa [alungă] o înfățișare mânioasă limba calomniatoare.
The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 Mai bine să locuiești într-un colț al acoperișului casei, decât cu o femeie arțăgoasă și într-o casă largă.
[It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 Ca ape reci pentru un suflet însetat, așa este o veste bună dintr-o țară îndepărtată.
[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
26 Un om drept, căzând înaintea celui stricat, este ca o fântână tulburată și ca un izvor spurcat.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a turbid fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 Nu este bine să mănânci multă miere; așa și pentru oameni să caute propria lor glorie nu este glorie.
[It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
28 Cel ce nu are stăpânire peste propriul său duh, este ca o cetate dărâmată, fără ziduri.
He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
