Proverbe 22
1 Un nume bun este mai de ales decât mari bogății și favoare binevoitoare mai bine decât aur și argint.
A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.
2 Cel bogat și cel sărac se întâlnesc; DOMNUL este făcătorul lor al tuturor.
The rich and the poor have this in common: The LORD is the maker of them all.
3 Un om chibzuit prevede răul și se ascunde, dar simplii merg înainte și sunt pedepsiți.
The shrewd see danger and take cover, but the naive keep on going and suffer for it.
4 Prin umilință și teama de DOMNUL sunt bogății și onoare și viață.
The result of humility and the fear of the LORD is wealth, honor, and life.
5 Spini și capcane sunt în calea celui pervers; cel ce își păstrează sufletul va fi departe de ele.
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6 Educă un copil pe calea pe care ar trebui să meargă, și când ajunge bătrân nu se va depărta de ea.
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 Bogatul stăpânește peste sărac și cel ce ia cu împrumut este servitor al celui ce dă cu împrumut.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Cel ce seamănă nelegiuire va secera deșertăciune, și nuiaua mâniei sale se va sfârși.
He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will fail. God blesses a cheerful and generous person, but the vanity of his deeds he will bring to an end.
9 Cel ce are un ochi mărinimos va fi binecuvântat, fiindcă dă săracului din pâinea lui.
He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10 Alungă batjocoritorul și cearta se va duce; da, discordia și ocara vor înceta.
Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 Cel ce iubește puritatea inimii, pentru harul buzelor sale împăratul îi va fi prieten.
He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king's friend.
12 Ochii DOMNULUI păstrează cunoașterea și el răstoarnă cuvintele călcătorului de lege.
The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 Leneșul spune: Este un leu afară, voi fi ucis pe străzi.
The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."
14 Gura femeilor străine este o groapă adâncă; cel ce este detestat de DOMNUL va cădea în ea.
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.
15 Nechibzuința este legată în inima unui copil, dar nuiaua disciplinării o va alunga departe de la el.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 Cel ce oprimă pe sărac ca să își mărească bogățiile și cel ce dă celui bogat, vor ajunge cu siguranță la lipsă.
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17 Apleacă-ți urechea și ascultă cuvintele celui înțelept și dedică-ți inima cunoașterii mele.
The words of the wise: Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your heart to my instruction.
18 Fiindcă este un lucru plăcut dacă le ții înăuntrul tău; ele vor fi întru totul potrivite pe buzele tale.
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19 Eu ți-am făcut cunoscută astăzi, tocmai ție, pentru ca încrederea ta să fie în DOMNUL.
That your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you.
20 Nu ți-am scris lucruri alese în sfaturi și cunoaștere,
Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21 Ca să îți fac cunoscută certitudinea cuvintelor adevărului, ca să răspunzi cu cuvintele adevărului acelora ce trimit la tine?
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22 Nu jefui pe sărac, pentru că el este sărac; nici nu asupri pe cel nenorocit la poartă,
Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court;
23 Fiindcă DOMNUL va pleda în cauza lor și va prăda sufletul acelora ce i-au prădat.
for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24 Nu te împrieteni cu un om mânios și nu merge împreună cu un om furios,
Do not befriend a hot-tempered man, and do not associate with one who harbors anger:
25 Ca nu cumva să înveți căile lui și să obții o capcană pentru sufletul tău.
lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
26 Nu fi unul dintre cei ce bat palma, sau din cei care sunt garanți pentru datorii.
Do not be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27 Dacă nu ai nimic de plătit, de ce să ia patul tău de sub tine?
If you do not have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
28 Nu scoate vechea piatră de hotar, pe care părinții tăi au pus-o.
Do not move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29 Vezi tu un om harnic în ocupația lui? El va sta în picioare înaintea împăraților; nu va sta în picioare înaintea celor neînsemnați.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.
