Proverbe 17
1 Mai bine o bucată de pâine uscată și liniște cu ea, decât o casă plină de carnea sacrificiilor cu ceartă.
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than a house full of feasting with strife.
2 Un servitor înțelept va conduce peste un fiu care aduce rușine și va avea parte de moștenire între frați.
A servant who deals wisely shall have rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have part in the inheritance among the brothers.
3 Creuzetul este pentru argint și cuptorul pentru aur, dar DOMNUL încearcă inimile.
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.
4 Un făptuitor al stricăciunii dă atenție buzelor înșelătoare, și un mincinos deschide urechea la o limbă rea.
An evildoer gives heed to wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Oricine batjocorește pe sărac ocărăște pe Făcătorul său, și cel care se bucură la dezastre nu va rămâne nepedepsit.
He who mocks a poor man reproaches his maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6 Copiii copiilor sunt coroana bătrânilor și gloria copiilor sunt părinții lor.
Son's sons are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons are their fathers.
7 Prostului nu i se potrivește o vorbire aleasă; cu atât mai puțin buze mincinoase unui prinț.
Excellent speech is not appropriate to a fool, much less lying lips to a prince.
8 Un dar este asemenea unei pietre prețioase în ochii celui ce îl are; oriîncotro se întoarce, prosperă.
A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who has it; wherever it turns, it prospers.
9 Cel ce acoperă o fărădelege caută iubire, dar cel ce tot repetă un lucru separă prieteni buni.
He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates chief friends.
10 O mustrare își găsește loc mult mai adânc la un om înțelept, decât o sută de lovituri la un prost.
A rebuke enters deeper into him who has understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
11 Un om care face rău caută numai rebeliune; de aceea împotriva lui va fi trimis un mesager crud.
An evil man seeks only rebellion. Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Mai bine să întâlnească un om o ursoaică jefuită de puii ei, decât un prost în nechibzuința lui.
Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Oricine răsplătește cu rău pentru bine, răul nu se va depărta de casa lui.
He who rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Începutul certei este ca atunci când cineva dă drumul la ape; de aceea părăsește cearta înainte să fii amestecat în ea.
The beginning of strife is like letting out water. Therefore leave off contention, before there is quarrelling.
15 Cel ce declară drept pe cel stricat și cel ce condamnă pe cel drept, chiar amândoi sunt urâciune pentru DOMNUL.
He who justifies a wicked man, and he who condemns a righteous man, both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.
16 La ce folosește un preț în mâna unui prost pentru a obține înțelepciune, văzând că nu are inimă pentru aceasta?
Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?
17 Un prieten iubește în toate timpurile, și un frate este născut pentru timpuri de restriște.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 Un om lipsit de înțelegere bate palma și devine garant în prezența prietenilor săi.
A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes surety in the presence of his neighbor.
19 Cel ce iubește cearta iubește fărădelegea, și cel ce își înalță poarta caută distrugere.
He loves transgression who loves strife. He who raises high his gate seeks destruction.
20 Cel ce are o inimă perversă nu găsește niciun bine, și cel ce are o limbă perversă cade în ticăloșie.
He who has a wayward heart finds no good, and he who has a perverse tongue falls into mischief.
21 Cel ce dă naștere unui prost face aceasta spre întristarea lui, și tatăl unui nebun nu are bucurie.
He who begets a fool it is to his sorrow, and the father of a fool has no joy.
22 O inimă veselă face bine ca un medicament, dar un duh frânt usucă oasele.
A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
23 Un om stricat ia un dar din sân ca să strice căile judecății.
A wicked man receives a bribe out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of justice.
24 Înțelepciune este înaintea celui ce are înțelegere, dar ochii unui prost sunt ațintiți la marginile pământului.
Wisdom is before the face of him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 Un fiu prost este o mâhnire pentru tatăl său și amărăciune pentru cea care l-a născut.
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
26 De asemenea să pedepsești pe cel drept nu este bine, nici să lovești pe prinți pentru echitate.
Also to punish a righteous man is not good, nor to smite nobles for uprightness.
27 Cel ce are cunoaștere își cruță cuvintele, și un om al înțelegerii are un duh ales.
He who spares his words has knowledge, and he who is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
28 Chiar un nebun este considerat înțelept când își ține gura, și cel ce își închide buzele ca om chibzuit.
Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is considered wise. When he shuts his lips, he is prudent.
