1 Și Israel a locuit în Sitim și poporul a început să curvească cu fiicele lui Moab.
And Israel sojourned in Sattin, and the people profaned itself by going a-whoring after the daughters of Moab.
2 Și ei au chemat poporul la sacrificiile dumnezeilor lor; și poporul a mâncat și s-a prosternat dumnezeilor lor.
And they called them to the sacrifices of their idols; and the people ate of their sacrifices, and worshipped their idols.
3 Și Israel s-a alăturat de Baal-Peor și mânia DOMNULUI s-a aprins împotriva lui Israel.
And Israel consecrated themselves to Beel-phegor; and the Lord was very angry with Israel.
4 Şi DOMNUL i-a spus lui Moise: Ia pe toate căpeteniile poporului şi spânzură-le înaintea DOMNULUI în faţa soarelui, ca mânia înverşunată a DOMNULUI să se abată de la Israel.
And the Lord said to Moses, Take all the princes of the people, and make them examples [of judgement] for the Lord in the face of the sun, and the anger of the Lord shall be turned away from Israel.
5 Și Moise a spus judecătorilor lui Israel: Fiecare să ucidă pe oamenii săi care s-au alipit de Baal-Peor.
And Moses said to the tribes of Israel, Slay you every one his friend that is consecrated to Beel-phegor.
6 Și, iată, unul dintre copiii lui Israel a venit și a adus, la frații săi, o femeie madianită, înaintea ochilor lui Moise și înaintea ochilor întregii adunări a copiilor lui Israel, care plângeau înaintea ușii tabernacolului întâlnirii.
And, behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Madianitish woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness.
7 Și când Fineas, fiul lui Eleazar, fiul preotului Aaron, a văzut, s-a ridicat din mijlocul adunării și a luat o lance în mâna sa;
And Phinees the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand,
8 Și a mers după bărbatul lui Israel în cort și i-a străpuns pe amândoi, pe bărbatul din Israel și pe femeie prin pântecele ei. Astfel plaga a fost oprită de la copiii lui Israel.
and went in after the Israelitish man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelitish man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9 Și cei ce au murit în plagă au fost douăzeci și patru de mii.
And those that died in the plague were four and twenty thousand.
10 Și DOMNUL i-a vorbit lui Moise, spunând:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
11 Fineas, fiul lui Eleazar, fiul preotului Aaron, a abătut furia mea de la copiii lui Israel, în timp ce era zelos pentru mine, printre ei, astfel că nu am mistuit pe copiii lui Israel în gelozia mea.
Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest has caused my wrath to cease from the children of Israel, when I was exceedingly jealous amongst them, and I did not consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Pentru aceasta spune: Iată, îi dau legământul meu de pace,
Thus do you say [to him], Behold, I give him a covenant of peace:
13 Și să îl aibă el și sămânța lui după el, chiar legământul unei preoții veșnice, pentru că a fost zelos pentru Dumnezeul său și a făcut ispășire pentru copiii lui Israel.
and he and his seed after him shall have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.
14 Și numele israelitului care a fost ucis, adică cel ucis împreună cu femeia madianită, era Zimri, fiul lui Salu, un prinț al unei case părintești printre simeoniți.
Now the name of the struck Israelitish man, who was struck with the Madianitish woman, [was] Zambri son of Salmon, prince of a house of the tribe of Symeon.
15 Și numele femeii madianite care a fost ucisă era Cozbi, fiica lui Țur; el era cap peste un popor și a unei case părintești în Madian.
And the name of the Madianitish woman who was struck, [was] Chasbi, daughter of Sur, a prince of the nation of Ommoth: it is a chief house amongst the people of Madiam.
16 Și DOMNUL i-a vorbit lui Moise, spunând:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying,
17 Vatămă-i pe madianiți și lovește-i;
Plague the Madianites as enemies, and strike them,
18 Pentru că ei te-au vătămat cu uneltirile lor, cu care te-au înșelat în lucrarea lui Peor și în lucrarea lui Cozbi, fiica unui prinț din Madian, sora lor, care a fost ucisă în ziua plăgii, venite din cauza lui Peor.
for they are enemies to you by the treachery wherein they ensnare you through Phogor, and through Chasbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Madiam, who was struck in the day of the plague because of Phogor.
