1 Și bărbații lui Efraim s-au adunat și au trecut spre nord și i-au spus lui Iefta: Pentru ce ai trecut să te lupți împotriva copiilor lui Amon și nu ne-ai chemat să mergem cu tine? Îți vom arde casa, peste tine, cu foc.
And the men of Ephraim were called together, and went northward, and said unto Yiphthach, Wherefore didst thou pass over to fight against the children of 'Ammon, and didst not call for us to go with thee? thy house will we burn over thee with fire.
2 Și Iefta le-a spus: Eu și poporul meu am fost în mare ceartă cu copiii lui Amon; și când v-am chemat, nu m-ați eliberat din mâinile lor.
And Yiphthach said unto them, I and my people were greatly engaged in strife with the children of 'Ammon; and I called you, but ye helped me not out of their hand.
3 Și când am văzut că nu m-ați eliberat, mi-am luat viața în mâini și am trecut împotriva copiilor lui Amon și DOMNUL i-a dat în mâna mea; și pentru ce v-ați urcat la mine în ziua aceasta, ca să luptați cu mine?
And when I saw that ye helped me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over to the children of 'Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand; and why then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 Atunci Iefta a adunat pe toți bărbații Galaadului și a luptat cu Efraim; și bărbații Galaadului au lovit pe Efraim, deoarece aceștia au spus: Voi galaadiții sunteți fugari ai lui Efraim printre efraimiți și printre manasiți.
Then Yiphthach gathered together all the men of Gil'ad, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gil'ad smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim: Gil'ad is in the midst, between Ephraim and Menasseh.
5 Și galaadiții au luat efraimiților trecerile Iordanului; și s-a întâmplat, când efraimiții care scăpaseră spuneau: Lasă-mă să trec; că bărbații Galaadului îi spuneau: Ești efraimit? Dacă el spunea: Nu;
And the Gil'adites seized on the passages of the Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it came to pass, when the Ephraimites who had escaped said, Let me pass over; that the men of Gil'ad said unto him, Art thou an Ephrathite? and if he said, No;
6 Atunci ei îi ziceau: Spune acum Șibolet, iar el zicea: Sibolet, pentru că nu putea să pronunțe bine. Atunci îl luau și îl înjunghiau la trecerile Iordanului; și au căzut atunci patruzeci și două de mii dintre efraimiți.
Then said they unto him, Do say, Shibboleth; but when he said, Sibboleth, and was not able to pronounce it correctly, they laid hold of him and slew him on the passages of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 Și Iefta a judecat pe Israel șase ani. Și Iefta galaaditul a murit și a fost îngropat într-una din cetățile Galaadului.
And Yiphthach judged Israel six years; and then died Yiphthach the Gil'adite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gil'ad.
8 Și după el, Ibțan din Betleem a judecat pe Israel.
And after him there judged Israel Ibzan of Beth-lechem.
9 Și el a avut treizeci de fii și treizeci de fiice, pe care le-a trimis în afară și a adus de afară pentru fiii săi treizeci de fiice. Și a judecat pe Israel șapte ani.
And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in for his sons from abroad: and he judged Israel seven years.
10 Și Ibțan a murit și a fost îngropat la Betleem.
Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth-lechem.
11 Și după el, Elon, un zabulonit, a judecat pe Israel, și el a judecat pe Israel zece ani.
And after him there judged Israel Elon the Zebulonite; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 Și Elon zabulonitul a murit și a fost îngropat în Aialon, în țara lui Zabulon.
Then died Elon the Zebulonite, and was buried in Ayalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 Și după el, Abdon, fiul lui Hilel, un piratonit, a judecat pe Israel.
And after him there judged Israel 'Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir'athonite.
14 Și a avut patruzeci de fii și treizeci de nepoți, care călăreau pe șaptezeci de mânji de măgăriță; și el a judecat pe Israel opt ani.
And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, that rode on seventy ass-colts; and he judged Israel eight years.
15 Și Abdon, fiul lui Hilel piratonitul, a murit și a fost îngropat în Piraton, în țara lui Efraim, pe muntele amaleciților.
Then died 'Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir'athonite, and was buried in Pir'athon in the land of Ephraim, in the mountain of the 'Amalekites.
