1 Și Iefta galaaditul era un războinic viteaz și era fiul unei curve; și Galaad născuse pe Iefta.
And so in that tyme Jepte, a man of Galaad, was a ful strong man, and fiytere, the sone of a womman hoore, which Jepte was borun of Galaad.
2 Și soția lui Galaad i-a născut fii; și fiii soției lui au crescut și au aruncat afară pe Iefta și i-au spus: Tu nu vei moșteni în casa tatălui nostru, pentru că ești fiul unei femei străine.
Forsothe Galaad hadde a wijf, of which he hadde sones, whiche aftir that thei encressiden, castiden out Jepte, and seiden, Thou maist not be eir in the hows of oure fadir, for thou art born of a modir auoutresse.
3 Atunci Iefta a fugit de frații săi și a locuit în țara lui Tob; și acolo s-au adunat bărbați de nimic la Iefta și au ieșit cu el.
`Whiche britheren he fledde, and eschewide, and dwellide in the lond of Tob; and pore men and `doynge thefte weren gaderid to hym, and sueden as a prince.
4 Și s-a întâmplat, după un timp, că de asemenea copiii lui Amon au făcut război cu Israel.
In tho daies the sones of Amon fouyten ayens Israel;
5 Și s-a întâmplat, când copiii lui Amon au făcut război cu Israel, că bătrânii Galaadului au mers să îl aducă pe Iefta din țara lui Tob,
and whanne thei contynueden scharpli, the grettere men in birthe of Galaad, yeden to take in to `the help of hem silf Jepte fro the lond of Tob;
6 Și i-au spus lui Iefta: Vino și fii căpetenia noastră, ca să luptăm cu copiii lui Amon.
and thei seiden to hym, Come thou, and be oure prince, and fiyte ayens the sones of Amon.
7 Și Iefta a spus bătrânilor Galaadului: Nu m-ați urât și nu m-ați alungat voi din casa tatălui meu, de ce ați venit acum la mine, când sunteți în strâmtorare?
To whiche he answeride, Whethir not ye it ben, that haten me, and castiden me out of the hows of mi fadir, and now ye camen to me, and weren compellid bi nede?
8 Și bătrânii Galaadului i-au spus lui Iefta: De aceea ne-am întors la tine acum, ca să mergi cu noi și să lupți cu copiii lui Amon și să fii capul nostru peste toți locuitorii Galaadului.
And the princes of Galaad seiden to Jepte, Therfor for this cause we camen now to thee, that thou go with vs, and fiyt ayens the sones of Amon; and that thou be the duyk of alle men that dwellen in Galaad.
9 Și Iefta a spus bătrânilor Galaadului: Dacă mă aduceți din nou acasă ca să lupt cu copiii lui Amon și DOMNUL îi va da înaintea mea, voi fi eu capul vostru?
And Jepte seide to hem, Whether ye camen verili to me, that Y fiyte for you ayens the sones of Amon, and if the Lord schal bitake hem in to myn hondis, schal Y be youre prince?
10 Și bătrânii Galaadului i-au spus lui Iefta: DOMNUL să fie martor între noi, dacă nu vom face conform cuvintelor tale.
Whiche answeriden to hym, The Lord hym silf, that herith these thingis, is mediatour and witnesse, that we schulen do oure biheestis.
11 Atunci Iefta a mers cu bătrânii Galaadului și poporul l-a pus cap și căpetenie peste ei, și Iefta și-a rostit toate cuvintele înaintea DOMNULUI în Mițpa.
And so Jepte wente with the princes of Galaad, and al the puple made hym her prince; and Jepte spak alle hise wordis bifor the Lord in Maspha.
12 Și Iefta a trimis mesageri la împăratul fiilor lui Amon, spunând: Ce ai a face cu mine, de ai venit împotriva mea să lupți în țara mea?
And he sente messangeris to the kyng of the sones of Amon, whiche messangeris schulden seie `of his persoone, What is to me and to thee, for thou hast come `ayens me to waaste my lond?
13 Și împăratul fiilor lui Amon a răspuns mesagerilor lui Iefta: Pentru că Israel mi-a luat țara, când a ieșit din Egipt, de la Arnon până la Iaboc și până la Iordan; acum de aceea înapoiază acele pământuri în pace.
To whiche the kyng answeride, For Israel whanne he stiede fro Egipt took awei my lond, fro the coostis of Arnon `til to Jaboch and to Jordan, now therfor yeelde it to me with pees.
14 Și Iefta a trimis din nou mesageri la împăratul fiilor lui Amon;
Bi whiche massangeris Jepte sente eft, and comaundide to hem, that thei schulden seie to the kyng of Amon,
15 Și i-a spus: Astfel spune Iefta: Israel nu a luat țara Moabului, nici țara copiilor lui Amon,
Jepte seith these thingis, Israel took not the lond of Moab, nether the lond of the sones of Amon;
16 Ci când Israel a ieșit din Egipt și a umblat prin pustie până la Marea Roșie și a venit la Cades,
but whanne thei stieden fro Egipt, `he yede bi the wildirnesse `til to the Reed See, and cam in to Cades;
17 Atunci Israel a trimis mesageri la împăratul Edomului, spunând: Te rog, lasă-mă să trec prin țara ta, dar împăratul Edomului a refuzat să le dea ascultare. Și la fel au trimis la împăratul Moabului, dar a refuzat și el; și Israel a rămas în Cades.
and he sente messangeris to the kyng of Edom, and seide, Suffre thou me, that Y go thoruy thi lond; which kyng nolde assente to his preyeres. Also Israel sente to the kyng of Moab, and he dispiside to yyue passage;
18 Atunci au umblat prin pustie și au ocolit țara Edomului și țara Moabului și au venit în partea dinspre est a țării Moabului și au tăbărât dincolo de Arnon, dar nu au intrat în hotarul Moabului, pentru că Arnonul era hotarul Moabului.
and so Israel dwellyde in Cades, and cumpasside bi the side the lond of Edom, and the lond of Moab; and he cam to the eest coost of the lond of Moab, and settide tentis biyende Arnon, nether he wolde entre in to the termes of Moab; for Arnon is the ende of the lond of Moab.
19 Și Israel a trimis mesageri la Sihon, împăratul amoriților, împăratul Hesbonului, și Israel i-a spus: Lasă-ne, te rugăm, să trecem prin țara ta până la locul meu.
And so Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, that dwellide in Esebon; and thei seiden to hym, Suffre thou, that Y passe thorouy thi lond `til to the ryuer.
20 Dar Sihon nu a avut încredere în Israel ca să îl lase să treacă prin ținutul său, ci Sihon a adunat tot poporul său și a tăbărât în Iahaț și a luptat împotriva lui Israel.
And he dispiside the wordis of Israel, and suffride not hym passe bi hise termes, but with a multitude with out noumbre gaderid to gidere he yede out ayens Israel, and ayenstood strongli.
21 Și DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel a dat pe Sihon și pe tot poporul lui în mâna lui Israel și i-au bătut; și Israel a luat în stăpânire toată țara amoriților, locuitorii acelei țări.
And the Lord bitook hym with al his oost in to the hondis of Israel; and Israel smoot hym, and hadde in possessioun al the lond of Ammorrey,
22 Și au luat în stăpânire toate ținuturile amoriților, de la Arnon până la Iaboc și de la pustie până la Iordan.
dwellere of that cuntrey, and al the coostis therof fro Arnon `til to Jaboch, and fro the wildirnesse `til to Jordan.
23 Astfel că acum DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel i-a alungat pe amoriți dinaintea poporului său Israel; și să îl stăpânești tu?
Therfor the Lord God of Israel distriede Ammorrey, fiytynge ayens hym for his puple Israel. And wolt thou now haue in possessioun `his lond? Whether not tho thingis whiche Chamos, thi god, hadde in possessioun, ben due to thee bi riyt?
24 Nu stăpânești tu ce ți-a dat în stăpânire Chemoș, dumnezeul tău? Astfel pe oricine DOMNUL Dumnezeul nostru îi va alunga dinaintea noastră, pe ei îi vom stăpâni.
Forsothe tho thingis whiche `oure Lord God ouercomere gat, schulen falle in to oure possessioun;
25 Și acum, ești tu cu ceva mai bun decât Balac, fiul lui Țipor, împăratul Moabului? S-a certat el vreodată cu Israel, sau a luptat el vreodată împotriva lor?
no but in hap thou art betere than Balach, the sone of Sephor, kyng of Moab, ether thou maist preue, that he stryuede ayens Israel, and fauyt ayens hym,
26 Cât timp a locuit Israel în Hesbon și în orașele lui, și în Aroer și în orașele lui, și în toate cetățile care sunt pe malurile Arnonului, trei sute de ani, de ce nu le-ați luat înapoi în acel timp?
whanne he dwellide in Esebon, and in townes therof, and in Aroer, and in townes therof, and in alle citees biyende Jordan, bi thre hundrid yeer. Whi in so myche time assaieden ye no thing on this axyng ayen?
27 De aceea nu eu am păcătuit împotriva ta, ci tu îmi faci rău, războindu-te împotriva mea; DOMNUL Judecătorul să fie judecător astăzi între copiii lui Israel și copiii lui Amon.
Therfor not Y do synne ayens thee, but thou doist yuel ayens me, and bryngist in batels not iust to me; the Lord, iuge of this dai, deme bitwixe the sones of Israel and bitwixe the sones of Amon.
28 Cu toate acestea împăratul copiilor lui Amon nu a dat ascultare la cuvintele pe care i le-a trimis Iefta.
And the kyng of the sones of Amon nolde assente to the wordis of Jepte, whiche he sente bi messangeris.
29 Atunci Duhul DOMNULUI a venit peste Iefta și el a trecut prin Galaad și Manase și a trecut la Mițpa din Galaad și de la Mițpa din Galaad a trecut la copiii lui Amon.
Therfor the spirit of the Lord was maad on Jepte, and he cumpasside Galaad and Manasses, Maspha and Galaad; and he passide fro thennus to the sones of Amon,
30 Și Iefta a făcut o promisiune DOMNULUI și a spus: Dacă vei da negreșit pe copiii lui Amon în mâinile mele,
and made a vow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake the sones of Amon in to myn hondis,
31 Atunci va fi astfel, că ce va ieși pe ușile casei mele pentru a mă întâmpina, când mă voi întoarce în pace de la copiii lui Amon, va fi al DOMNULUI și îl voi oferi ca ofrandă arsă.
who euer goith out first of the dores of myn hows, and cometh ayens me turnynge ayen with pees fro the sones of Amon, Y schal offre hym brent sacrifice to the Lord.
32 Astfel Iefta a trecut la copiii lui Amon să lupte împotriva lor, și DOMNUL i-a dat în mâinile lui.
And Jepte yede to the sones of Amon, to fiyte ayens hem, whiche the Lord bitook in to hise hondis;
33 Și i-a bătut de la Aroer până la Minit, douăzeci de cetăți, și până la câmpia viilor, cu un foarte mare măcel. Astfel copiii lui Amon au fost supuși înaintea copiilor lui Israel.
and he smoot fro Aroer `til to thou comest in to Mennyth, twenti citees, and `til to Abel, which is set aboute with vyneris, with ful greet veniaunce; and the sones of Amon weren maad low of the sones of Israel.
34 Și Iefta a venit la Mițpa, în casa lui, și, iată, fiica sa a ieșit afară pentru a-l întâmpina cu tamburine și cu dansuri, și ea era singurul lui copil; în afară de ea nu avea fiu sau fiică.
Forsothe whanne Jepte turnede ayen in to Maspha, his hows, his oon gendrid douyter cam to hym with tympanys and croudis; for he hadde not othere fre children.
35 Și s-a întâmplat, când a văzut-o, că și-a sfâșiat hainele și a spus: Vai, fiica mea! Ce mult m-ai doborât; și tu ești dintre cei care mă tulbură, pentru că mi-am deschis gura către DOMNUL și nu mă pot întoarce.
And whanne `sche was seyn, he to-rente his clothis, and seide, Allas! my douytir, thou hast disseyued me, and thou art disseyued; for Y openyde my mouth to the Lord, and Y may do noon other thing.
36 Iar ea i-a spus: Tatăl meu, dacă ți-ai deschis gura către DOMNUL, fă-mi conform cu ce a ieșit din gura ta, pentru că DOMNUL s-a răzbunat pentru tine pe dușmanii tăi, pe copiii lui Amon.
To whom sche answeride, My fadir, if thou openydist thi mouth to the Lord, do to me what euer thing thou bihiytist, while veniaunce and victorie of thin enemyes is grauntid to thee.
37 Și ea a spus tatălui său: Să mi se facă lucrul acesta: lasă-mă singură două luni, să urc și să cobor în munți și să îmi plâng fecioria, eu și tovarășele mele.
And sche seide to the fadir, Yyue thou to me oneli this thing, which Y biseche; suffre thou me that in two monethis Y cumpasse hillis, and biweile my maidynhed with my felowis.
38 Iar el a spus: Du-te. Și a trimis-o pentru două luni, și ea a mers cu însoțitoarele ei și și-a plâns fecioria pe munți.
To whom he answeride, Go thou. And he sufferide hir in two monethis. And whanne sche hadde go with hir felowis and pleiferis, sche biwepte hir maydynhed in the hillis.
39 Și s-a întâmplat, la sfârșitul a două luni, că ea s-a întors la tatăl ei, care i-a făcut conform cu promisiunea sa pe care o făcuse, și ea nu cunoscuse bărbat. Și a ajuns un obicei în Israel,
And whanne twey monethis weren fillid, sche turnede ayen to hir fadir, and he dide to hir as he avowide; and sche knew not fleischli a man. Fro thennus a custom cam in Israel,
40 Că, din an în an, fiicele lui Israel mergeau să plângă pe fiica lui Iefta galaaditul, patru zile pe an.
