Iov 9
1 Atunci Iov a răspuns și a zis:
And Job answered, and said:
2 Cu adevărat știu că așa este, dar cum ar fi un om drept cu Dumnezeu?
Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.
3 Dacă se va certa cu el, nu îi poate răspunde una dintr-o mie.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand.
4 El este înțelept în inimă și puternic în tărie; cine a prosperat împietrindu-se împotriva lui?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?
5 Care mută munții și ei nu știu, care îi răstoarnă în mânia sa.
Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath, knew it not.
6 Care clatină pământul din locul lui și stâlpii săi se cutremură.
Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
7 Care poruncește soarelui iar el nu răsare; și sigilează stelele.
Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal:
8 Care singur întinde cerurile și calcă pe valurile mării.
Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and walketh upon the waves of the sea.
9 Care face Ursa, Orionul și Pleiadele și încăperile sudului.
Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south.
10 Care face lucruri mari, peste putință a fi socotite, da, și minuni fără număr.
Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number.
11 Iată, el merge pe lângă mine și eu nu îl văd; trece de asemenea pe lângă mine, dar nu îl percep.
If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart I shall not understand.
12 Iată, el ia, cine îl poate împiedica? Cine îi va spune: Ce faci?
If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why dost thou so?
13 Dacă Dumnezeu nu își va retrage mânia, ajutoarele mândre se încovoaie sub el.
God, whose wrath no mall can resist, and under whom they stoop that bear up the world.
14 Cu cât mai puțin să îi răspund și să îmi aleg cuvintele [să mă judec] cu el?
What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him?
15 Căruia, deși am fost drept, totuși nu i-aș răspunde, ci aș face cerere către judecătorul meu.
I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but would make supplication to my judge.
16 Dacă l-aș fi chemat, iar el mi-ar fi răspuns, totuși nu aș crede că a dat ascultare vocii mele.
And if he should hear me when I call, I should not believe that he had heard my voice.
17 Căci mă frânge cu o furtună și îmi înmulțește rănile fără motiv.
For he shall crush me in a whirlwind, and multiply my wounds even without cause.
18 Nu îmi va permite să îmi trag suflarea, ci mă umple cu amărăciune.
He alloweth not my spirit to rest, and he filleth me with bitterness.
19 Dacă vorbesc despre putere, iată, el este puternic; și despre judecată, cine îmi va rândui un timp să pledez?
If strength be demanded, he is most strong: if equity of judgment, no man dare bear witness for me.
20 Dacă mă declar drept, propria mea gură mă va condamna; dacă spun: Sunt desăvârșit, aceasta mă va dovedi de asemenea pervers.
If I would justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I would shew myself innocent, he shall prove me wicked.
21 Chiar dacă eu aș fi desăvârșit, totuși nu mi-aș cunoaște sufletul, mi-aș disprețui viața.
Although I should be simple, even this my soul shall be ignorant of, and I shall be weary of my life.
22 Acesta este un lucru, de aceea l-am spus: El nimicește pe cel desăvârșit și pe cel stricat.
One thing there is that I have spoken, both the innocent and the wicked he consumeth.
23 Dacă biciul ucide dintr-odată, el va râde la încercarea celui nevinovat.
If he scourge, let him kill at once, and not laugh at the pains of the innocent.
24 Pământul este dat în mâna celor stricați; el acoperă fețele judecătorilor acestuia; dacă nu, unde și cine este el?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked, he covereth the face of the judges thereof: and if it be not he, who is it then?
25 Acum zilele mele sunt mai iuți decât un alergător; ele zboară și nu văd nimic bun.
My days have been swifter than a post: they have fled away and have not seen good.
26 Au trecut precum corăbiile iuți, precum acvila care se grăbește la pradă.
They have passed by as ships carrying fruits, as an eagle flying to the prey.
27 Dacă spun: Voi uita plângerea mea, îmi voi părăsi întristarea și mă voi mângâia;
If I say: I will not speak so: I change my face, and am tormented with sorrow.
28 Mi-e teamă de toate întristările mele, știu că nu mă vei considera nevinovat.
I feared all my works, knowing that thou didst not spare the offender.
29 Dacă sunt stricat, de ce muncesc în zadar?
But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?
30 Dacă mă spăl cu apă din zăpadă și îmi curăț mâinile ca niciodată,
If I be washed as it were with snow waters, and my hands shall shine ever so clean:
31 Totuși mă vei scufunda în șanț și propriile mele haine mă vor detesta.
Yet thou shalt plunge me in filth, and my garments shall abhor me,
32 Pentru că nu este om cum sunt eu, ca să îi răspund și să venim împreună la judecată.
For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.
33 Între noi nu este arbitru, să își pună mâna peste amândoi.
There is none that may be able to reprove both, and to put his hand between both.
34 Să își ia toiagul de la mine și să nu mă îngrozească spaima lui;
Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me.
35 Atunci aș vorbi și nu m-aș teme de el; dar nu este așa cu mine.
I will speak, and will not fear him: for I cannot answer while I am in fear.
