Ieremia 14
1 Cuvântul DOMNULUI care a venit la Ieremia referitor la secetă.
The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
2 Iuda jelește și porțile acestuia lâncezesc; ele sunt negre până la pământ; și strigătul Ierusalimului s-a înălțat.
Judah mourneth, and her gates languish; they lie grieved on the ground; and the distressed cry of Jerusalem ascendeth upward.
3 Și nobilii lor au trimis pe cei mici ai lor la ape; ei au ajuns la gropi și nu au găsit apă; s-au întors cu vasele lor goale; au fost rușinați și încurcați și și-au acoperit capetele.
And their nobles have sent out their subordinates for water: they come to the pits, they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their head.
4 Pentru că pământul este crăpat, pentru că nu a fost ploaie pe pământ, plugarii s-au rușinat, și-au acoperit capetele.
Because of the ground which is cracked open, since there hath been no rain in the land, are the ploughmen ashamed, they cover their head.
5 Da, cerboaica a născut în câmp și și-a părăsit puii, pentru că nu era iarbă.
Yea, the hind also bringeth forth her young in the field, and forsaketh [them], because there is no grass.
6 Și măgarii sălbatici au stat pe înălțimi, au adulmecat vântul ca dragonii; ochii li s-au sfârșit, pentru că nu era iarbă.
And the wild asses stand on the mountain-tops, they snuff up the wind like serpents: their eyes fail, because there are no herbs.
7 DOAMNE, deși nelegiuirile noastre mărturisesc împotriva noastră, fă tu aceasta pentru numele tău, pentru că decăderile noastre sunt multe; noi am păcătuit împotriva ta.
If our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, do thou act for the sake of thy name; for our backslidings are many; against thee have we sinned.
8 O, speranța lui Israel, salvatorul acestuia în timp de tulburare, de ce să fii tu ca un străin în țară și ca un călător care se abate să găzduiască pentru o noapte?
O thou hope of Israel, his saviour in time of trouble, why shouldst thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfarer that turneth aside to lodge for a night?
9 De ce să fii ca un om înmărmurit, ca un bărbat puternic care nu poate salva? Totuși tu, DOAMNE, ești în mijlocul nostru și noi ne numim după numele tău; nu ne lăsa.
Why shouldst thou be as a man that is surprised, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou art in the midst of us, O Lord, and we are called by thy name: abandon us not.
10 Astfel spune DOMNUL către acest popor: Bine le-a plăcut să rătăcească, nu și‑au oprit picioarele, de aceea DOMNUL nu îi primește; își va aminti acum nelegiuirea lor și va cerceta păcatele lor.
Thus hath said the Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander about, their feet have they not restrained: therefore the Lord doth not receive them in favor; now will he remember their iniquity, and will punish their sins.
11 Atunci DOMNUL mi-a spus: Nu te ruga pentru acest popor pentru binele lor.
Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not in behalf of this people for their good.
12 Când vor posti nu le voi asculta strigătul; și când ei aduc ofrandă arsă și un dar, nu le voi primi; ci îi voi mistui cu sabie și cu foamete și cu ciumă.
When they fast, I will not hear their entreaty: and when they offer burnt-offering and meat-offering, I will not receive them in favor; but by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence, will I make an end of them.
13 Atunci am spus: Ah, Doamne DUMNEZEULE! Iată, profeții le spun: Nu veți vedea sabia, nici nu veți avea foamete; ci vă voi da pace sigură în acest loc.
Then said I, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but a permanent peace will I give you in this place.
14 Atunci DOMNUL mi-a spus: Profeții profețesc minciuni în numele meu; nu eu i-am trimis, nici nu le-am poruncit, nici nu le-am vorbit; ei vă profețesc o viziune falsă și ghicire și un lucru de nimic și înșelăciunea inimii lor.
Then said the Lord unto me, Falsehood do the prophets prophesy in my name; I have not sent them, neither have I commanded them, neither have I spoken unto them: a vision of falsehood, and divination, and idolatrous folly, and the deceit of their heart do they prophesy unto you.
15 De aceea astfel spune DOMNUL referitor la profeții care profețesc în numele meu și pe care eu nu i-am trimis, totuși ei spun: Nu va fi sabie și foamete în această țară. Prin sabie și foamete vor fi acei profeți mistuiți.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, when I have not sent them, while they say, Sword and famine shall not come in this land: By the sword and by the famine shall these prophets come to their end.
16 Și poporul către care ei profețesc va fi aruncat pe străzile Ierusalimului din cauza foametei și a sabiei; și nu vor avea pe nimeni să îi îngroape pe ei, pe soțiile lor, pe fiii lor sau pe fiicele lor, pentru că voi vărsa stricăciunea lor asupra lor.
And the people to whom they prophesy shall lie cast down in the streets of Jerusalem by means of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters; for I will pour out their wickedness over them.
17 De aceea tu să le spui acest cuvânt: Ochii mei să curgă cu lacrimi noapte și zi și să nu înceteze, pentru că fiica fecioară a poporului meu este zdrobită cu o mare spărtură, cu o lovitură foarte apăsătoare.
But thou shalt say unto them this word. My eyes shall run down with tears night and day, and they shall not cease; for with a great breach is the virgin-daughter of my people broken, with a very painful blow.
18 Dacă ies la câmp, atunci, iată, pe cei uciși cu sabia! Și dacă intru în cetate, atunci, iată, pe cei care sunt bolnavi de foamete! Da, deopotrivă profetul și preotul vor merge într-o țară pe care nu o cunosc.
If I go forth into the field, behold, there are the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, behold, there are those that are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest travel round into a land that they know not.
19 Ai respins tu în întregime pe Iuda? a detestat sufletul tău Sionul? De ce ne-ai lovit și nu este vindecare pentru noi? Am căutat pace și nu este nici[un] bine; și un timp de vindecare și, iată, tulburare!
Hast thou entirely rejected Judah? or hath thy soul loathing on Zion? why hast thou smitten us, so that there is no healing for us? we hoped for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold, there is terror!
20 Recunoaștem, DOAMNE, stricăciunea noastră și nelegiuirea părinților noștri, pentru că noi am păcătuit împotriva ta.
We know, O Lord, our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.
21 Nu ne detesta, pentru numele tău, nu dezonora tronul gloriei tale; amintește-ți, nu rupe legământul tău cu noi.
Do not cast us off, for the sake of thy name, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
22 Sunt printre deșertăciunile neamurilor vreunii care pot să dea ploaie? Sau pot cerurile să dea averse de ploi? Nu ești tu acela, DOAMNE Dumnezeul nostru? De aceea noi te vom aștepta, pentru că tu ai făcut toate acestea.
Are there any among the vanities of the nations those that bestow rain? or can the heavens give forth showers? Behold, thou art this, O Lord our God, and we will hope in thee; for thou hast done all these things.
