1 Iacov, rob al lui Dumnezeu și al Domnului Isus Cristos, celor douăsprezece triburi care sunt împrăștiate: Salutare!
JAMES, a servant of God, and of our Lord Jesus the Messiah; to the twelve tribes dispersed among the Gentiles; greeting peace.
2 Socotiți totul a fi bucurie, frații mei, când cădeți în diverse ispitiri,
Let it be all joy to you, my brethren, when ye enter into many and various trials.
3 Știind că încercarea credinței voastre lucrează răbdare.
For ye know, that the trial of your faith, maketh you possess patience.
4 Dar lăsați răbdarea să își aibă lucrarea desăvârșită, ca să fiți desăvârșiți și întregi, nefiind lipsiți în nimic.
And let patience have its perfect work, so that ye may be complete and perfect, and may lack nothing.
5 Dar dacă unuia dintre voi îi lipsește înțelepciunea, să o ceară de la Dumnezeu, care dă tuturor cu generozitate și nu reproșează, și îi va fi dată.
And if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask it of God, who giveth to all freely, and reproacheth not; and it will be given him.
6 Dar să ceară în credință, neclătinându-se în nimic. Pentru că cel ce se clatină seamănă cu un val al mării împins de vânt și aruncat încoace și încolo.
But let him ask in faith, not hesitating: he who hesitateth is like the waves of the sea, which the wind agitateth.
7 De aceea să nu gândească omul acela că va primi ceva de la Domnul.
And let not that man expect to receive any thing of the Lord,
8 Un om șovăitor este nestatornic în toate căile lui.
who is hesitating in his mind, and unstable in all his ways.
9 Dar să se bucure fratele de rând în aceea că el este înălțat.
And let the depressed brother rejoice, in his elevation;
10 Iar bogatul în aceea că este înjosit, pentru că va trece ca floarea ierbii.
and the rich, in his depression; because, like the flower of an herb, so he passeth away.
11 Fiindcă a răsărit soarele cu arșița și usucă iarba și floarea ei cade și frumusețea înfățișării ei piere: astfel și bogatul se va ofili în căile lui.
For the sun riseth in its heat, and drieth up the herb; and its flower falleth, and the beauty of its appearance perisheth: so also the rich man withereth in his ways.
12 Binecuvântat este omul care îndură ispita, pentru că, după ce este încercat, va primi coroana vieții, pe care a promis-o Domnul celor ce îl iubesc.
Blessed is the man who endureth temptations; so that when he is proved he may receive a crown of life, which God hath promised to them that love him.
13 Să nu spună cineva când este ispitit: Sunt ispitit de Dumnezeu. Fiindcă Dumnezeu nu poate fi ispitit de rău, nici nu ispitește el pe nimeni,
Let no one when he is tempted, say, I am tempted of God: for God is not tempted with evils, nor doth he tempt any man.
14 Ci fiecare este ispitit, când este atras de propria lui poftă și ademenit.
But every man is tempted by his own lust; and he lusteth, and is drawn away.
15 Apoi, după ce pofta a conceput, naște păcat; iar păcatul, odată înfăptuit, naște moarte.
And this his lust conceiveth, and bringeth forth sin; and sin, when mature, bringeth forth death.
16 Nu vă rătăciți preaiubiții mei frați!
Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Fiecare dar bun și fiecare dar desăvârșit este de sus, coborând de la Tatăl luminilor, la care nu este schimbare, nici umbră de întoarcere.
Every good and perfect gift cometh down from above, from the Father of lights, with whom is no mutation, not even the shadow of change.
18 Din voia lui ne-a născut el prin cuvântul adevărului, ca să fim un anumit fel de prime roade ale creaturilor sale.
He saw fit, and begat us by the word of truth; that we might be the first-fruits of his creatures.
19 De aceea, preaiubiții mei frați, fiecare om să fie grăbit la auzire, încet la vorbire, încet la furie;
And be ye, my beloved brethren, every one of you, swift to hear, and slow to speak; and slow to wrath:
20 Fiindcă furia unui om nu lucrează dreptatea lui Dumnezeu.
for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 De aceea puneți deoparte toată murdăria și revărsarea răutății și primiți cu blândețe cuvântul altoit, care este în stare să vă salveze sufletele.
Wherefore, remove far from you all impurity, and the abundance of wickedness; and, with meekness, receive the word that is implanted in our nature, which is able to vivify these your souls.
22 Fiți așadar înfăptuitori ai cuvântului și nu doar ascultători [ai lui], înșelându-vă pe voi înșivă.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only; and do not deceive yourselves.
23 Pentru că dacă vreunul este ascultător al cuvântului și nu înfăptuitor, el este asemănător unui om care își privește fața naturală în oglindă;
For if any man shall be a hearer of the word, and not a doer of it, he will be like one who seeth his face in a mirror:
24 Fiindcă se privește pe sine însuși și pleacă și uită imediat ce fel de om era.
for he seeth himself, and passeth on, and forgetteth what a man he was.
25 Dar oricine privește cu atenție în legea desăvârșită a libertății și continuă în ea, el, nefiind un ascultător uituc, ci un înfăptuitor al faptei, acesta va fi binecuvântat în fapta lui.
But every one that looketh upon the perfect law of liberty and abideth in it, is not a hearer of something to be forgotten, but a doer of the things; and he will be blessed in his work.
26 Dacă cineva printre voi pare să fie religios și nu își înfrânează limba, ci își înșală inima, religia acestuia este deșartă.
And if any one thinketh that he worshippeth God, and doth not restrain his tongue, but his heart deceiveth him; his worship is vain.
27 Religia pură și neîntinată înaintea lui Dumnezeul și Tatăl este aceasta: A cerceta pe cei fără tată și văduve în nenorocirea lor, și a se ține pe sine însuși nepătat de lume.
For the worship that is pure and holy before God the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and that one keep himself unspotted from the world.
