Isaia 9
1 Totuşi întunericul nu va fi precum în chinuirea ei, când mai înainte el a chinuit uşor ţara lui Zabulon şi ţara lui Neftali, iar apoi a chinuit-o apăsător pe calea mării, dincolo de Iordan, în Galileea naţiunilor.
For there is no gloom to her who had been in anguish, In the former time, he brought into dishonour The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, In the latter time, hath he brought into honour The Lake-way over the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2 Poporul care umbla în întuneric a văzut o mare lumină; peste cei ce locuiesc în ţara umbrei morţii, a strălucit lumina.
the people who were walking in darkness, Have seen a great light, —The dwellers in a land death-shadowed, A light, hath shined upon them.
3 Tu ai înmulţit naţiunea şi nu ai mărit bucuria; ei se bucură înaintea ta conform bucuriei de la seceriş şi cum se bucură oamenii când împart prada.
Thou hast increased the exultation Thou hast made great the joy, —They joy before thee, according to the joy of harvest, As men exult when they distribute spoil.
4 Fiindcă ai frânt jugul poverii lui şi toiagul umărului său şi nuiaua opresorului său, ca în ziua lui Madian.
For, the yoke of their burden, The cross-bar of their shoulder, The goad of their driver, Hast thou broken, as in the day of Midian.
5 Căci fiecare bătălie a războinicului este cu tumult şi haine tăvălite în sânge, care vor fi pentru ardere, mâncare pentru foc.
Surely, every boot of one tramping in tumult, and the war-cloak rolled in blood Then shall serve for burning, food for fire;
6 Căci un copil ni s-a născut, un fiu ni s-a dat, şi domnia va fi pe umărul lui şi îi va fi pus numele Minunat, Sfătuitor, Dumnezeul puternic, Tatăl veşnic, Prinţul Păcii.
For, A Child, hath been born to us, A Son, hath been given to us, And the dominion is upon his shoulder, —And his Name hath been called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty GOD, Father of Futurity, Prince of Prosperity.
7 Nu se va sfârşi mărirea domniei şi păcii lui, peste tronul lui David şi peste împărăţia sa, pentru a o rândui şi a o întemeia cu judecată şi cu dreptate de acum înainte pentru totdeauna. Zelul DOMNULUI oştirilor va face aceasta.
Of the increase of dominion, and of prosperity, There shall be no end—Upon the throne of David and Upon his kingdom, By establishing it and By sustaining it, With justice and With righteousness, —From henceforth, Even unto times age-abiding: The jealousy of Yahweh of hosts, will perform this!
8 Domnul a trimis un cuvânt la Iacob şi acesta s-a aşezat uşor peste Israel.
A word, hath My Lord, sent unto Jacob, —And it shall alight on Israel;
9 Şi tot poporul va cunoaşte, până la Efraim şi locuitorii Samariei, care spun în mândria şi tăria inimii:
and the people shall all of them know [it] —Ephraim and the dweller in Samaria—Who in pride and insolence of heart, are saying:
10 Cărămizile au căzut, dar vom construi cu pietre cioplite; sicomorii sunt tăiaţi, dar îi vom schimba cu cedri.
Bricks, have fallen down But with hewn stone, will we build, —Sycomores, have been felled, But with cedars, will we replace them.
11 De aceea DOMNUL va aşeza pe potrivnicii lui Rezin împotriva lui şi va uni pe duşmanii lui;
Therefore will Yahweh strengthen the adversaries of Resin against him, —And his enemies will he arouse:
12 Sirienii înainte şi filistenii în spate; şi vor mânca pe Israel cu gură deschisă. Cu toate acestea mânia lui nu s-a întors, ci mâna lui este încă întinsă.
Syrians before and Philistines behind, Thus have they devoured Israel with open mouth, —For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
13 Căci poporul nu se întoarce la cel ce l-a lovit, nici nu caută pe DOMNUL oştirilor.
Yet, the people, have not turned unto him that smote them, —And Yahweh of hosts, have they not sought.
14 De aceea DOMNUL va tăia din Israel cap şi coadă, ramură şi papură, într-o singură zi.
Therefore hath Yahweh cut off from Israel—Head and tail Palm-top and rush, In one day.
15 Pe bătrânul şi pe cel demn de cinste, el este capul; şi pe profetul care învaţă [pe alţii] minciuni, el este coada.
The elder and favourite, he, is the head, —And the prophet teaching falsehood, he, is the tail;
16 Căci conducătorii acestui popor îl fac să rătăcească; şi cei conduşi de ei sunt nimiciţi.
And they who should have led this people forward have been causing them to stray, —And, they who are led of them are destroyed,
17 De aceea Domnul nu va avea bucurie în tinerii lui, nici nu va avea milă de cei fără tată şi de văduve, căci fiecare este un făţarnic şi un făcător de rău şi fiecare gură vorbeşte nebunie. Cu toate acestea mânia lui nu s-a întors, ci mâna lui este încă întinsă.
For this cause, over their choice young men, will My Lord not rejoice, And on their fatherless and their widows, will he not have compassion, For every one of them, is profane and an evildoer, And, every mouth is speaking baseness, —For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
18 Căci stricăciunea arde ca focul, va mânca mărăcinii şi spinii şi va aprinde desişurile pădurii şi se vor ridica precum înălţarea fumului.
For lawlessness, hath consumed like fire, Briars and thorns, doth it devour, —Yea it hath kindled upon the thickets of the forest, And they have rolled up as a column of smoke.
19 Prin furia DOMNULUI oştirilor este ţara întunecată şi poporul va fi ca mâncare pentru foc, nimeni nu va cruţa pe fratele său.
Through the wrath of Yahweh of hosts, is the land consumed, —And the people have come to be, as fuel for fire, A man unto his own brother, sheweth not pity;
20 Şi el va răpi în dreapta şi tot va fi flămând; şi va mânca în stânga şi tot nu se va sătura; fiecare om se va hrăni cu carnea propriului braţ:
And he hath slain on the right, and yet is hungry, And hath eaten on the left, yet are they not satisfied, —Every one, the flesh of his own arm, will they eat:
21 Manase pe Efraim; şi Efraim pe Manase; şi ei împreună vor fi împotriva lui Iuda. Cu toate acestea mânia lui nu s-a întors, ci mâna lui este încă întinsă.
Manasseh—Ephraim, and Ephraim—Manasseh, They together—against Judah, —For all this, hath his anger not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
