Isaia 64
1 Ah, de ai voi să rupi cerurile, de ai voi să cobori, ca munţii să curgă înaintea feţei tale.
O let the heavens be broken open and come down, so that the mountains may be shaking before you,
2 Ca atunci când focul ce topeşte arde, focul face apele să fiarbă, pentru a face numele tău cunoscut potrivnicilor tăi, ca naţiunile să tremure înaintea feţei tale!
As when fire puts the brushwood in flames, or as when water is boiling from the heat of the fire: to make your name feared by your haters, so that the nations may be shaking before you;
3 Când ai făcut lucruri înfricoşătoare pe care nu le-am căutat, ai coborât, munţii au curs înaintea feţei tale.
While you do acts of power for which we are not looking, and which have not come to the ears of men in the past.
4 Căci de la începutul lumii oamenii nu au auzit, nici nu au dat ascultare, nici ochiul nu a văzut, Dumnezeule, în afară de tine, ce a pregătit pentru cel ce îl aşteaptă.
The ear has not had news of, or the eye seen, ... any God but you, working for the man who is waiting for him.
5 Tu întâmpini pe cel ce se bucură şi lucrează dreptate, pe cei ce îşi amintesc de tine în cărările tale; iată, eşti furios; căci am păcătuit; [dar] în ele este stăruinţă şi noi vom fi salvaţi.
Will you not have mercy on him who takes pleasure in doing righteousness, even on those who keep in mind your ways? Truly you were angry, and we went on doing evil, and sinning against you in the past.
6 Dar noi suntem toţi ca un lucru necurat şi toate faptele noastre drepte sunt precum zdrenţe murdare; şi toţi ne ofilim ca o frunză; şi nelegiuirile noastre, ca vântul, ne-au dus.
For we have all become like an unclean person, and all our good acts are like a dirty robe: and we have all become old like a dead leaf, and our sins, like the wind, take us away.
7 Şi nu este nimeni care să cheme numele tău, care să se trezească pentru a te apuca, fiindcă ţi-ai ascuns faţa de noi şi ne-ai mistuit, din cauza nelegiuirilor noastre.
And there is no one who makes prayer to your name, or who is moved to keep true to you: for your face is veiled from us, and you have given us into the power of our sins.
8 Dar acum, DOAMNE, tu eşti tatăl nostru; noi suntem lutul, iar tu olarul nostru; şi noi toţi suntem lucrarea mâinii tale.
But now, O Lord, you are our father; we are the earth, and you are our maker; and we are all the work of your hand.
9 Nu te înfuria peste măsură, DOAMNE, nici nu îţi aminti nelegiuirea pentru totdeauna, iată, priveşte, te implorăm, noi suntem toţi poporul tău.
Be not very angry, O Lord, and do not keep our sins in mind for ever: give ear to our prayer, for we are all your people.
10 Cetăţile tale sfinte sunt un pustiu, Sionul este un pustiu, Ierusalimul o pustiire.
Your holy towns have become a waste, Zion has become a waste, Jerusalem is a mass of broken walls.
11 Casa noastră sfântă şi minunată, unde părinţii noştri te-au lăudat, este arsă cu foc, şi toate lucrurile noastre sunt risipite.
Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers gave praise to you, is burned with fire; and all the things of our desire have come to destruction.
12 Te vei opri de la aceste lucruri, DOAMNE? Vei tăcea şi ne vei nenoroci peste măsură?
In view of all this, will you still do nothing, O Lord? will you keep quiet, and go on increasing our punishment?
