Isaia 29
1 Vai lui Ariel, lui Ariel, cetatea unde a locuit David! Adăugaţi an la an, lăsaţi sărbătorile să îşi înjunghie [animalele] sacrificiilor lor.
Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the town where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let the festivals come round in order;
2 Totuşi voi strâmtora pe Ariel şi va fi jelire şi întristare şi îmi va fi ca Ariel.
Yet will I distress Ariel, and there shall be groaning and wailing: and it shall be unto me like Ariel.
3 Şi voi aşeza tabăra împotriva ta de jur împrejur şi te voi asedia cu un munte şi voi ridica fortăreţe împotriva ta.
And I will encamp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with hostile posts, and I will raise up entrenchments against thee.
4 Şi vei fi înjosit [şi] vei vorbi din pământ şi vorbirea ta va fi de jos din ţărână şi vocea ta va fi ca a unuia care are demon, din pământ şi vorbirea ta va şopti din ţărână.
And brought down low, shalt thou speak [as though] out of the earth, and out of the dust shall come forth thy speech; and like one of a familiar spirit out of the earth shall be thy voice, and out of the dust shalt thou whisper forth thy speech.
5 Mai mult, mulţimea străinilor tăi va fi ca ţărâna măruntă şi mulţimea tiranilor va fi ca pleava care trece, da, va fi într-o clipă, dintr-odată.
And like the small dust shall be the multitude of thy barbarian enemies, and like the passing chaff the multitude of tyrants; and [this] shall be at unawares, suddenly.
6 Vei fi cercetat de DOMNUL oştirilor cu tunet şi cutremur şi mare zgomot, cu furtună şi vijelie şi flacăra focului mistuitor.
From the Lord of hosts shall the visitation come with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the devouring flame of fire.
7 Şi mulţimea tuturor naţiunilor care luptă împotriva lui Ariel, chiar toţi cei ce luptă împotriva ei şi a întăriturilor ei şi care o tulbură, va fi ca visul unei viziuni de noapte.
And as a dream of a night-vision shall be the multitude of all the nations that go to war against Ariel, even all that fight against her and raise towers against her, and that distress her.
8 Va fi ca atunci când un flămând visează şi, iată, mănâncă; dar se trezeşte şi sufletul său este gol; sau ca atunci când un însetat visează şi, iată, bea; dar se trezeşte şi, iată, este leşinat şi sufletul său pofteşte, astfel va fi mulţimea tuturor naţiunilor care luptă împotriva muntelui Sion.
And it shall even be as when a hungry man dreameth, that, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as when a thirsty man dreameth, that, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul yet longeth: so shall it be with the multitude of all the nations, that go to war against mount Zion.
9 Opriţi-vă şi minunaţi-vă; ţipaţi şi strigaţi, ei sunt beţi, dar nu de vin; şovăie, dar nu de băutură tare.
Stay but still and wonder; turn your eyes away, and be blinded; they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.
10 Fiindcă DOMNUL a turnat peste voi duhul unui somn adânc şi v-a închis ochii, pe profeţii şi conducătorii voştri, pe văzători i-a acoperit.
For the Lord hath poured out over you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: [over] the prophets, and your chiefs, the seers, hath he cast a vail.
11 Şi viziunea tuturor v-a devenit precum cuvintele unei cărţi sigilate, dată unui învăţat, spunând: Citeşte-o, te rog; iar el spune: Nu pot, fiindcă este sigilată;
And the vision of every thing is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that can read, saying, Read this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
12 Şi cartea este dată unui neînvăţat, spunând: Citeşte-o, te rog; iar el spune: Nu sunt învăţat.
And the book is then delivered to one that cannot read, saying, Read this, I pray thee; and he saith, I cannot read.
13 De aceea Domnul a spus: Întrucât acest popor se apropie de mine cu gura lor şi cu buzele lor mă onorează, [totuşi] şi-au depărtat inima de mine şi temerea lor faţă de mine este învăţată printr-un precept omenesc;
And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is but the acquired precept of men;
14 De aceea, iată, voi continua să fac o lucrare minunată în mijlocul acestui popor, o lucrare minunată şi o minune; fiindcă înţelepciunea înţelepţilor lor va pieri şi înţelegerea celor chibzuiţi ai lui va fi ascunsă.
Therefore, behold, I will do yet farther a marvelous work with this people, doing wonder on wonder; so that the wisdom of their wise men shall be lost, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden.
15 Vai celor ce merg adânc pentru a-şi ascunde sfatul de DOMNUL şi faptele lor sunt în întuneric şi spun: Cine ne vede? Şi: Cine ne cunoaşte?
Woe unto those that seek to hide deeply their counsel from the Lord, so that their works may be in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?
16 Cu siguranţă perversitatea voastră va fi socotită ca lutul olarului; căci va spune lucrarea despre cel care a făcut-o: Nu el m-a făcut? Sau lucrul alcătuit va spune despre cel care l-a alcătuit: Nu a avut înţelegere?
Oh your perverseness! shall the potter be esteemed as the clay? that the work shall say of its maker, He hath not made me? or shall the thing framed say of its framer, He had no understanding?
17 Nu este decât foarte puţin timp şi Libanul se va schimba într-un câmp roditor şi câmpul roditor va fi socotit ca o pădure.
Lo! but yet a very little while more, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest!
18 Şi în acea zi surzii vor auzi cuvintele cărţii şi ochii orbilor vor vedea din întunecime şi din întuneric.
And on that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and out of obscurity, and out of darkness, shall the eyes of the blind see.
19 Cei blânzi de asemenea îşi vor creşte bucuria în DOMNUL şi cei săraci între oameni se vor bucura în Cel Sfânt al lui Israel.
And the sufferers shall have abundant joy in the Lord, and the needy among men shall be glad in the Holy One of Israel.
20 Fiindcă tiranul este făcut de nimic şi batjocoritorul este mistuit şi toţi care caută să vadă nelegiuirea sunt stârpiţi,
For the tyrant is no more, and consumed is the scorner, and cut off are all that watch for injustice;
21 Care fac pe om vinovat pentru un cuvânt şi pun o capcană pentru cel care mustră la poartă şi abat pe cel drept pentru un lucru de nimic.
That cause mankind to sin by [their] word; and lay a snare for him that reproveth [them] in the gate; and pervert through fraud the cause of the just.
22 De aceea astfel spune DOMNUL, care a răscumpărat pe Avraam, referitor la casa lui Iacob: Iacob nu va fi acum ruşinat, nici nu-i va păli acum faţa.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord unto the house of Jacob, he who hath redeemed Abraham, Not now shall Jacob be ashamed, and not now shall his face be made pale.
23 Dar când îşi va vedea copiii, lucrarea mâinilor mele, în mijlocul lui, ei vor sfinţi numele meu şi vor sfinţi pe Cel Sfânt al lui Iacob şi se vor teme de Dumnezeul lui Israel.
For when he seeth his children, the work of my hands in the midst of him, how they sanctify my name: then will they sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and the God of Israel will they reverence.
24 De asemenea cei care au rătăcit în duh, vor ajunge la cunoştinţa înţelegerii şi cei care au cârtit vor învăţa doctrină.
They also that were erring in spirit shall acquire understanding, and they that murmured shall obtain instruction.
