Osea 4

1 Ascultaţi cuvântul DOMNULUI, voi copii ai lui Israel; fiindcă DOMNUL are o ceartă cu locuitorii ţării, pentru că nu este adevăr, nici milă, nici cunoaştere de Dumnezeu în ţară.

Hear the word of Yahweh, ye sons of Israel, —that, a controversy, hath Yahweh with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no faithfulness, nor lovingkindness, nor knowledge of God, in the land:

2 Prin înjurături şi minciună şi ucidere şi furt şi comiterea de adulter, ei se răspândesc, şi sângele atinge sânge.

Cursing and lying, and killing and stealing, and committing adultery, have broken forth, and, blood-shedding, unto blood-shedding, doth extend.

3 De aceea ţara va jeli şi fiecare ce locuieşte în ea va lâncezi, împreună cu fiarele câmpului şi păsările cerului; da, peştii mării de asemenea vor fi luaţi.

For this cause, shall the land mourn, and everyone who dwelleth therein shall languish, with the wild beast of the field and with the bird of the heavens, —moreover also, the fishes of the sea, shall be withdrawn.

4 Totuşi să nu se certe nimeni, nici să nu se mustre, pentru că poporul tău este asemenea celor ce se ceartă cu preotul.

Howbeit let, no man, contend, nor let him rebuke another, —since, thy people, are as they who contend against a priest:

5 De aceea vei cădea ziua şi profetul de asemenea va cădea cu tine noaptea, şi eu voi nimici pe mama ta.

So shouldst thou stumble in the daytime, and even the prophet stumble with thee, in the night, —and I should destroy thine own mother.

6 Poporul meu este nimicit din lipsă de cunoaştere, pentru că tu ai respins cunoaşterea, eu de asemenea te voi respinge, ca să nu îmi fii preot; văzând că ai uitat legea Dumnezeului tău, eu de asemenea îi voi uita pe copiii tăi.

My people, are destroyed, for lack of knowledge, —Because, thou, hast rejected knowledge, therefore will I reject thee from ministering as priest unto me, and, because thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also, will forget thy children.

7 Cu cât s-au înmulţit, cu atât au păcătuit împotriva mea, de aceea le voi schimba gloria în ruşine.

As they were magnified, so, they sinned against me, —My glory—for what was contemptible, did they exchange.

8 Ei mănâncă păcatul poporului meu şi îşi pun inima în nelegiuirea lor.

The sin of my people, they do eat, —and. unto their iniquity, lift they up every man his desire.

9 Precum poporul, aşa va fi şi preotul; şi îi voi pedepsi pentru căile lor şi îi voi răsplăti pentru facerile lor.

So doth it come to be—like people, like priest, —therefore will I visit upon him his ways, and, his doings, will I bring back to him;

10 Fiindcă vor mânca şi nu vor avea destul; vor curvi şi nu se vor înmulţi, pentru că au încetat să ia seama la DOMNUL.

And they shall eat, and not be satisfied, they have encouraged unchastity, yet have not been making increase, —for unto, Yahweh, have they left off giving heed: —

11 Curvia şi vinul şi vinul nou iau inima.

Unchastity, and wine, and new wine, take away the heart.

12 Poporul meu cere sfat de la trunchiurile lor şi toiagul lor le vesteşte; fiindcă duhul curviilor i-a făcut să rătăcească şi curvind, s-au îndepărtat de sub Dumnezeul lor.

My people, of their Wood, do ask, —Let, their Staff, then tell them, —for, the spirit of unchastity, hath led them astray, and they have unchastely departed from under their God.

13 Ei sacrifică pe vârfurile munţilor şi ard tămâie pe dealuri, sub stejari şi plopi şi ulmi, pentru că umbra lor este bună; de aceea fiicele voastre vor curvi şi soţiile voastre vor comite adulter.

On the headlands of the mountains, they sacrifice, and, on the hills, burn they incense, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because, pleasant, is the shade thereof: For this cause, do your daughters, become unchaste, and, your brides, commit adultery.

14 Nu voi pedepsi pe fiicele voastre când vor curvi, nici pe soţiile voastre când comit adulter; fiindcă ele însele trag deoparte cu curve şi sacrifică cu prostituatele; de aceea poporul care nu înţelege va cădea.

I do not bring punishment upon your daughters when they become unchaste, nor upon your brides, when they commit adultery, for, the men themselves, with unchaste women, do seclude themselves, and, with the common women of the shrine, do offer sacrifice, —and, a people who will not discern, must be ruined.

15 Deşi tu, Israele, curveşti, totuşi Iuda să nu se poticnească; şi nu veniţi până la Ghilgal, nici nu urcaţi încă la Bet-Aven, nici nu juraţi: DOMNUL trăieşte.

Though unchaste art thou, O Israel, let not Judah, become guilty, neither let them enter Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and [then] swear, By the life of Yahweh!

16 Fiindcă Israel decade ca o viţea care dă înapoi; acum DOMNUL îi va paşte ca pe un miel într-un loc larg.

For, as a heifer that is stubborn, hath Israel, been stubborn, —Now, can Yahweh, turn them out to pasture, like a young ram in a wide place?

17 Efraim s-a alipit de idoli, lăsaţi-l în pace.

Mated with idols, is Ephraim, let him alone.

18 Băutura lor este acră, au curvit în continuu; conducătorii ei iubesc cu ruşine: Daţi.

Their drinking-bout, having passed, —they became, unchaste, they loved wildly, a contempt, became her great men.

19 Vântul l-a legat în aripile lui şi ei se vor ruşina din cauza sacrificiilor lor.

The wind hath bound her up in its wings, —that they may be ashamed, because of their sacrifices.
