Geneză 11
1 Şi întreg pământul era cu o singură limbă şi cu o singură vorbire.
And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,
2 Şi s-a întâmplat, cum au călătorit de la est, că au găsit o câmpie în ţara Şinar şi au locuit acolo.
and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;
3 Şi au spus unul altuia: Haidem să facem cărămizi şi să le ardem bine. Şi au avut cărămidă ca piatră şi smoală au avut ca mortar.
and they say each one to his neighbour, 'Give help, let us make bricks, and burn [them] thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.
4 Şi au spus: Haidem să ne zidim o cetate şi un turn, al cărui vârf să ajungă până la cer; şi să ne facem un nume, ca nu cumva să fim împrăştiaţi pretutindeni pe faţa întregului pământ.
And they say, 'Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'
5 Şi DOMNUL a coborât să vadă cetatea şi turnul, pe care copiii oamenilor le-au zidit.
And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;
6 Şi DOMNUL a spus: Iată, poporul este unul şi ei toţi au o singură limbă şi au început să facă aceasta, şi acum nimic nu îi va opri din ceea ce au de gând să facă.
and Jehovah saith, 'Lo, the people [is] one, and one pronunciation [is] to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.
7 Haidem să coborâm, şi acolo să le încurcăm limba, ca ei să nu mai înţeleagă vorbirea unuia către celălalt.
Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'
8 Astfel DOMNUL i-a împrăştiat pretutindeni de acolo, peste faţa întregului pământ; şi au încetat a zidi cetatea.
And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;
9 De aceea i s-a pus numele Babel, pentru că acolo DOMNUL a încurcat limba întregului pământ; şi de acolo DOMNUL i-a împrăştiat peste faţa întregului pământ.
therefore hath [one] called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.
10 Acestea sunt generaţiile lui Sem: Sem era în vârstă de o sută de ani şi a născut pe Arpacşad, la doi ani după potop;
These [are] births of Shem: Shem [is] a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.
11 Şi Sem a trăit, după ce a născut pe Arpacşad, cinci sute de ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
12 Şi Arpacşad a trăit treizeci şi cinci de ani şi a născut pe Şelah;
And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.
13 Şi Arpacşad a trăit, după ce a născut pe Şelah, patru sute trei ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
14 Şi Şelah a trăit treizeci de ani şi a născut pe Eber;
And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.
15 Şi Şelah a trăit, după ce a născut pe Eber, patru sute trei ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
16 Şi Eber a trăit treizeci şi patru de ani şi a născut pe Peleg;
And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.
17 Şi Eber a trăit, după ce a născut pe Peleg, patru sute treizeci de ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
18 Şi Peleg a trăit treizeci de ani şi a născut pe Reu;
And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.
19 Şi Peleg a trăit, după ce a născut pe Reu, două sute nouă ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
20 Şi Reu a trăit treizeci şi doi de ani şi a născut pe Serug;
And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.
21 Şi Reu a trăit, după ce a născut pe Serug, două sute şapte ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
22 Şi Serug a trăit treizeci de ani şi a născut pe Nahor;
And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.
23 Şi Serug a trăit, după ce a născut pe Nahor; două sute de ani şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
24 Şi Nahor a trăit douăzeci şi nouă de ani şi a născut pe Terah;
And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.
25 Şi Nahor a trăit, după ce a născut pe Terah, o sută nouăsprezece ani; şi a născut fii şi fiice.
And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
26 Şi Terah a trăit şaptezeci de ani şi a născut pe Avram, Nahor şi Haran.
And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Şi acestea sunt generaţiile lui Terah: Terah a născut pe Avram, pe Nahor, şi pe Haran şi Haran a născut pe Lot.
And these [are] births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;
28 Şi Haran a murit înaintea tatălui său, Terah, în ţara naşterii sale, în Urul caldeilor.
and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Şi Avram şi Nahor şi-au luat soţii: numele soţiei lui Avram era Sarai şi numele soţiei lui Nahor, Milca, fiica lui Haran, tatăl Milcăi şi tatăl Iscăi.
And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife [is] Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife [is] Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.
30 Dar Sarai era stearpă, ea nu avea copil.
And Sarai is barren — she hath no child.
31 Şi Terah a luat pe Avram, fiul său, şi pe Lot, fiul lui Haran, fiul fiului său, şi pe Sarai, nora lui, soţia fiului său, Avram, şi a ieşit împreună cu ei din Urul caldeilor, ca să meargă în ţara lui Canaan; şi au venit la Haran şi au locuit acolo.
And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.
32 Şi zilele lui Terah au fost două sute cinci ani; şi Terah a murit în Haran.
And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
