Esther 3
1 După aceste lucruri împăratul Ahaşveroş l-a promovat pe Haman, fiul lui Hamedata agaghitul şi l-a avansat şi i-a aşezat tronul peste toţi prinţii care erau cu el.
And after this king Artaxerxes highly honoured Aman [son] of Amadathes, the Bugæan, and exalted him, and set his seat above all his friends.
2 Şi toţi servitorii împăratului care erau la poarta împăratului, îngenuncheau şi se plecau lui Haman, pentru că astfel a poruncit împăratul referitor la el. Dar Mardoheu nu îngenunchea nici nu i se pleca.
And all in the palace did him obeisance, for so the king had given orders to do: but Mardochæus did not do him obeisance.
3 Atunci servitorii împăratului, care erau la poarta împăratului, i-au spus lui Mardoheu: De ce încalci tu porunca împăratului?
And they in the king’s palace said to Mardochæus, Mardochæus, why dost thou transgress the commands of the king?
4 Şi s-a întâmplat, după ce i-au vorbit zilnic, iar el nu le-a dat ascultare, că ei i-au spus lui Haman să vadă dacă faptele lui Mardoheu ar continua, pentru că el le spusese că este iudeu.
[Thus] they spoke daily to him, but he hearkened not unto them; so they represented to Aman that Mardochæus resisted the commands of the king: and Mardochæus had shewn to them that he was a Jew.
5 Şi când a văzut Haman că Mardoheu nu îngenunchea, nici nu i se pleca, atunci Haman s-a umplut de furie.
And when Aman understood that Mardochæus did not obeisance to him, he was greatly enraged,
6 Şi s-a gândit ca fiind de dispreţ a pune mâinile doar pe Mardoheu, căci ei i-au arătat poporul lui Mardoheu; astfel că Haman a căutat să îi nimicească pe toţi iudeii care erau în toată împărăţia lui Ahaşveroş, poporul lui Mardoheu.
and took counsel to destroy utterly all the Jews who were under the rule of Artaxerxes.
7 În prima lună, adică, luna Nisan, în al doisprezecelea an al împăratului Ahaşveroş, au aruncat Pur, adică sorţul, înaintea lui Haman, din zi în zi şi din lună în lună, până în a douăsprezecea, adică luna Adar.
And he made a decree in the twelfth year of the reign of Artaxerxes, and cast lots daily and monthly, to slay in one day the race of Mardochæus: and the lot fell on the fourteenth [day] of the month which is Adar.
8 Şi Haman a spus împăratului Ahaşveroş: Este un anumit popor împrăştiat şi răspândit printre oamenii din toate provinciile împărăţiei tale; şi legile lor sunt diferite de legile tuturor popoarelor; şi nici nu ţin legile împăratului, de aceea nu este spre folosul împăratului să îi lase în pace.
And he spoke to king Artaxerxes, saying, There is a nation scattered among the nations in all thy kingdom, and their laws differ from [those of] all the [other] nations; and they disobey the laws of the king; and it is not expedient for the king to let them alone.
9 Dacă face plăcere împăratului, să se scrie ca ei să fie nimiciţi; şi eu voi plăti zece mii de talanţi de argint în mâinile celor însărcinaţi cu acest lucru, pentru a-i aduce în trezoreria împăratului.
If it seem good to the king, let him make a decree to destroy them: and I will remit into the king’s treasury ten thousand talents of silver.
10 Şi împăratul şi-a luat inelul de pe mână, şi l-a dat lui Haman, fiul lui Hamedata agaghitul, duşmanul iudeilor.
And the king took off his ring, and gave it into the hands of Aman, to seal the decrees against the Jews.
11 Şi împăratul i-a spus lui Haman: Îţi este dat argintul şi oamenii de asemenea, pentru a face cu ei cum ţi se pare bine.
And the king said to Aman, Keep the silver, and treat the nation as thou wilt.
12 Apoi în a treisprezecea zi a lunii întâi au fost chemaţi scribii împăratului, şi s-a scris conform cu tot ceea ce Haman a poruncit satrapilor şi guvernatorilor care erau peste fiecare provincie, şi conducătorilor fiecărui popor din fiecare provincie conform cu scrierea lor, şi tuturor oamenilor după limba lor; în numele împăratului Ahaşveroş s-a scris şi sigilat cu inelul împăratului.
So the king’s recorders were called in the first month, on the thirteenth [day], and they wrote as Aman commanded to the captains and governors in every province, from India even to Ethiopia, to a hundred and twenty-seven provinces; and to the rulers of the nations according to their [several] languages, in the name of king Artaxerxes.
13 Şi au fost trimise scrisori prin alergători în toate provinciile împăratului, pentru a nimici, a ucide, şi a face să piară toţi iudeii, deopotrivă tineri şi bătrâni, copilaşi şi femei, într-o singură zi, în ziua a treisprezecea, a lunii a douăsprezecea, care este luna Adar, şi să prade averile lor.
And [the message] was sent by posts throughout the kingdom of Artaxerxes, to destroy utterly the race of the Jews on the first day of the twelfth month, which is Adar, and to plunder their goods.
14 Pentru ca porunca să fie dată în fiecare provincie, o copie a înscrisului a fost adusă la cunoştinţa tuturor popoarelor, ca să fie gata pentru acea zi.
And the copies of the letters were published in every province; and an order was given to all the nations to be ready against that day.
15 Alergătorii au ieşit, fiind grăbiţi de porunca împăratului, şi hotărârea a fost dată în palatul Susa. Şi împăratul şi Haman s-au aşezat să bea; dar cetatea Susa era derutată.
And the business was hastened, and [that] at Susa: and the king and Aman began to drink; but the city was troubled.
