Eclesiastul 5
1 Păzește-ți piciorul când mergi în casa lui Dumnezeu și pregătește-te mai bine să asculți decât să aduci sacrificiul proștilor, pentru că ei nu iau în considerare că fac rău.
Thou that entrist in to the hous of God, kepe thi foot, and neiye thou for to here; for whi myche betere is obedience than the sacrifices of foolis, that witen not what yuel thei don.
2 Nu fi pripit cu gura ta și nu îți lăsa inima să se grăbească să rostească vreun lucru înaintea lui Dumnezeu, pentru că Dumnezeu este în cer și tu pe pământ; de aceea cuvintele tale să fie puține.
Speke thou not ony thing folily, nether thin herte be swift to brynge forth a word bifore God; for God is in heuene, and thou art on erthe, therfor thi wordis be fewe.
3 Pentru că visul vine din mulțimea treburilor, și vocea unui prost se cunoaște prin mulțimea cuvintelor.
Dremes suen many bisynessis, and foli schal be foundun in many wordis.
4 Când faci o promisiune lui Dumnezeu, nu întârzia să o împlinești, fiindcă el nu are plăcere în proști; împlinește ce ai promis.
If thou hast avowid ony thing to God, tarie thou not to yelde; for an vnfeithful and fonned biheest displesith hym; but `yelde thou what euer thing thou hast avowid;
5 Mai bine este să nu promiți, decât să promiți și să nu împlinești.
and it is myche betere to make not a vowe, than aftir a vowe to yelde not biheestis.
6 Nu permite gurii tale să îți provoace carnea să păcătuiască, nici nu spune înaintea îngerului, că aceasta a fost o eroare, pentru ce să se mânie Dumnezeu la vocea ta și să distrugă lucrarea mâinilor tale?
Yyue thou not thi mouth, that thou make thi fleisch to do synne; nether seie thou bifor an aungel, No puruyaunce is; lest perauenture the Lord be wrooth on thi wordis, and distruye alle the werkis of thin hondis.
7 Căci în mulțimea viselor și în multe cuvinte sunt de asemenea multe deșertăciuni; dar teme-te de Dumnezeu.
Where ben many dremes, ben ful many vanytees, and wordis with out noumbre; but drede thou God.
8 Dacă vezi oprimarea săracului și pervertirea violentă a judecății și justiției într-o provincie, nu te mira de acest lucru, pentru că cel ce este mai înalt decât cel mai înalt dă atenție; și este mai înalt decât ei.
If thou seest false chalengis of nedi men, and violent domes, and that riytfulnesse is distried in the prouynce, wondre thou not on this doyng; for another is hiyere than an hiy man, and also othere men ben more hiye aboue these men;
9 Mai mult, folosul pământului este pentru toți; împăratul însuși este servit din ale câmpului.
and ferthermore the kyng of al erthe comaundith to the seruaunt.
10 Cel ce iubește argintul nu se va sătura cu argint, nici cel ce iubește abundența, cu creștere; aceasta este de asemenea deșertăciune.
An auerouse man schal not be fillid of monei; and he that loueth richessis schal not take fruytis of tho; and therfor this is vanyte.
11 Când bunurile cresc, se înmulțesc cei ce le mănâncă; și ce este mai de folos pentru proprietarii lor, decât să [îi] privească pe aceștia cu ochii lor.
Where ben many richessis, also many men ben, that eten tho; and what profitith it to the haldere, no but that he seeth richessis with hise iyen?
12 Somnul unui muncitor este dulce, fie că mănâncă puțin sau mult; dar abundența celui bogat nu îl va lăsa să doarmă.
Slepe is swete to hym that worchith, whether he etith litil ether myche; but the fulnesse of a ryche man suffrith not hym to slepe.
13 Este un rău aspru pe care l-am văzut sub soare, adică, bogății păstrate spre vătămarea celor ce le stăpânesc.
Also anothir sijknesse is ful yuel, which Y siy vndur the sunne; richessis ben kept in to the yuel of her lord.
14 Dar acele bogății pier printr-o osteneală rea; iar el naște un fiu și nu este nimic în mâna lui.
For thei perischen in the worste turment; he gendride a sone, that schal be in souereyn nedynesse.
15 Așa cum a ieșit din pântecele mamei lui, gol, se va întoarce pentru a merge precum a venit și nu va lua nimic din munca lui pe care să o ducă în mâna lui.
As he yede nakid out of his modris wombe, so he schal turne ayen; and he schal take awei with hym no thing of his trauel.
16 Și acesta de asemenea este un rău dureros, că în toate privințele așa cum el a venit, astfel va merge; și ce folos are cel ce a muncit pentru vânt?
Outirli it is a wretchid sijknesse; as he cam, so he schal turne ayen. What therfor profitith it to hym, that he trauelide in to the wynde?
17 Și în toate zilele lui mănâncă în întuneric, și are multă întristare și furie în boala lui.
In alle the daies of his lijf he eet in derknessis, and in many bisinessis, and in nedynesse, and sorewe.
18 Iată, ce am văzut este bine și frumos: ca omul să mănânce și să bea și să se bucure de binele din toată munca sa, pe care o ia sub soare, în toate zilele vieții sale pe care Dumnezeu i-o dă, pentru că aceasta este partea lui.
Therfor this semyde good to me, that a man ete, and drynke, and vse gladnesse of his trauel, in which he trauelide vndir the sunne, in the noumbre of daies of his lijf, which God yaf to hym; and this is his part.
19 Fiecare om de asemenea căruia Dumnezeu i-a dat bogății și avere și i-a dat putere să mănânce din ele și să își ia partea lui și să se bucure în munca lui; acesta este darul lui Dumnezeu.
And to ech man, to whom God yaf richessis, and catel, and yaf power to hym to ete of tho, and to vse his part, and to be glad of his trauel; this is the yifte of God.
20 Pentru că el nu își va aminti mult zilele vieții sale, pentru că Dumnezeu îi răspunde în bucuria inimii sale.
For he schal not bithenke miche on the daies of his lijf, for God ocupieth his herte with delicis.
