Deuteronomul 8
1 Luaţi seama să împliniţi toate poruncile pe care ţi le poruncesc astăzi, ca să trăiţi şi să vă înmulţiţi şi să intraţi şi să stăpâniţi ţara pe care a jurat-o DOMNUL părinţilor voştri.
All the commandment which I command thee this day ye shall observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers.
2 Şi să îţi aminteşti de tot drumul pe care te-a condus DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău în aceşti patruzeci de ani în pustiu, ca să te umilească şi să te încerce, ca să cunoască ce este în inima ta, dacă vei păzi poruncile lui sau nu.
And thou shall remember all the way which Jehovah thy God has led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.
3 Şi te-a umilit şi a suferit să flămânzeşti, şi te-a hrănit cu mana pe care nu ai cunoscut-o şi nici părinţii tăi nu au cunoscut-o, ca să te facă să cunoşti că omul nu trăieşte numai cu pâine, ci omul trăieşte cu fiecare cuvânt care iese din gura DOMNULUI.
And he humbled thee, and allowed thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knew not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of Jehovah.
4 Îmbrăcămintea nu s-a învechit pe tine, nici piciorul tău nu s-a umflat, în aceşti patruzeci de ani.
Thy raiment did not grow old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
5 Să iei aminte de asemenea în inima ta, că, precum un om disciplinează pe fiul său, astfel DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău te disciplinează pe tine.
And thou shall consider in thy heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so Jehovah thy God chastens thee.
6 De aceea să păzeşti poruncile DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău, ca să umbli în căile lui şi să te temi de el.
And thou shall keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
7 Pentru că DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău te duce într-o ţară bună, o ţară cu pâraie de apă, cu izvoare şi cu ape adânci care ţâşnesc din văi şi dealuri;
For Jehovah thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;
8 O ţară cu grâu şi orz şi vii şi smochini şi rodii; o ţară cu măslini şi miere;
a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey,
9 O ţară în care vei mânca pâine fără sărăcie, nu vei duce lipsă de nimic în ea; o ţară ale cărei pietre sunt fier şi din ale cărei dealuri vei săpa aramă.
a land in which thou shall eat bread without scarceness. Thou shall not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou may dig copper.
10 După ce vei mânca şi te vei sătura, să binecuvântezi pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău pentru ţara bună pe care ţi-a dat-o.
And thou shall eat and be full, and thou shall bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he has given thee.
11 Ia seama să nu uiţi pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, nepăzind poruncile lui şi judecăţile lui şi statutele lui, pe care ţi le poruncesc astăzi,
Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
12 Ca nu cumva după ce vei mânca şi te vei sătura şi ţi-ai construit case frumoase şi locuieşti în ele,
Lest, when thou have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwelt in it,
13 Şi după ce ţi se vor înmulţi cirezile şi turmele şi argintul tău şi aurul tău vor fi înmulţite şi tot ce ai va fi înmulţit,
and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou have is multiplied,
14 Atunci să ţi se înalţe inima şi să uiţi pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, care te-a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei,
then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,
15 Care te-a condus prin pustiul cel mare şi înfricoşător, în care erau şerpi înfocaţi şi scorpioni şi secetă, unde nu era apă; care ţi-a scos apă din stânca de cremene;
who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness-fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water-who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint,
16 Care te-a hrănit în pustiu cu mana, pe care nu au cunoscut-o părinţii tăi, ca să te umilească şi să te încerce, ca să îţi facă bine la sfârşitul tău;
who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers did not know, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.
17 Şi să spui în inima ta: Puterea mea şi tăria mâinii mele mi-au dobândit această bogăţie,
And lest thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.
18 Ci să îţi aminteşti de DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, pentru că el este acela care îţi dă putere să dobândeşti bogăţie, ca să întemeieze legământul său, pe care l-a jurat părinţilor tăi, ca în ziua aceasta.
But thou shall remember Jehovah thy God, for it is he who gives thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to thy fathers, as at this day.
19 Şi se va întâmpla, dacă îl uiţi numai puţin pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău şi umbli după alţi dumnezei şi le serveşti şi te închini lor, mărturisesc astăzi împotriva voastră, că negreşit veţi pieri.
And it shall be, if thou shall forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
20 Precum naţiunile pe care le-a nimicit DOMNUL dinaintea voastră, astfel veţi pieri şi voi, deoarece aţi refuzat să ascultaţi de vocea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul vostru.
As the nations that Jehovah makes to perish before you, so shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God.
