Deuteronomul 25
1 Dacă este o neînţelegere între oameni şi ei vin la judecată, ca judecătorii să îi judece, atunci să declare drept pe cel drept şi să condamne pe cel stricat.
And if there should be a dispute between men, and they should come forward to judgment, and [the judges] judge, and justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked:
2 Şi se va întâmpla, dacă omul stricat este demn să fie bătut, judecătorul să îl facă să se întindă şi să fie bătut, în faţa lui, cu un număr de lovituri conform greşelii lui.
then it shall come to pass, if the unrighteous should be worthy of stripes, thou shalt lay him down before the judges, and they shall scourge him before them according to his iniquity.
3 Patruzeci de lovituri poate să îi dea şi să nu le întreacă, pentru ca nu cumva, dacă le întrece şi îl bat peste acestea cu multe lovituri, fratele tău ţi-ar părea nemernic.
And they shall scourge him with forty stripes in number, they shall not inflict more; for if thou shouldest scourge him [with] more stripes beyond these stripes, thy brother will be disgraced before thee.
4 Să nu legi gura boului când treieră grâne.
Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn.
5 Când fraţii locuiesc împreună şi unul dintre ei moare şi nu are copil, soţia mortului să nu se căsătorească în afară, cu un străin; fratele soţului ei să intre la ea şi să şi-o ia de soţie şi să împlinească faţă de ea datoria de frate al soţului.
And if brethren should live together, and one of them should die, and should not have seed, the wife of the deceased shall not marry out [of the family] to a man not related: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and shall take her to himself for a wife, and shall dwell with her.
6 Şi se va întâmpla că, întâiul-născut pe care îl naşte ea să poarte numele fratelui său mort, ca să nu i se şteargă numele din Israel.
And it shall come to pass that the child which she shall bear, shall be named by the name of the deceased, and his name shall not be blotted out of Israel.
7 Şi dacă omului nu îi place să ia pe soţia fratelui său, atunci soţia fratelui său să se urce la poartă, la bătrâni şi să spună: Fratele soţului meu refuză să ridice nume fratelui său în Israel, refuză să împlinească datoria de frate al soţului meu.
And if the man should not be willing to take his brother's wife, then shall the woman go up to the gate to the elders, and she shall say, My husband's brother will not raise up the name of his brother in Israel, my husband's brother has refused.
8 Atunci bătrânii cetăţii sale să îl cheme şi să îi vorbească şi dacă el stăruie şi spune: Nu îmi place să o iau,
And the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him; and if he stand and say, I will not take her:
9 Atunci soţia fratelui său să vină la el în prezenţa bătrânilor şi să îi scoată încălţămintea din picior şi să îl scuipe în faţă şi să răspundă şi să spună: Astfel să se facă bărbatului care nu va înălţa casa fratelui său.
then his brother's wife shall come forward before the elders, and shall loose one shoe from off his foot, and shall spit in his face, and shall answer and say, Thus shall they do to the man who will not build his brother's house in Israel.
10 Şi în Israel îi va fi pus numele: Casa celui descălţat.
And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that has had his shoe loosed.
11 Dacă doi bărbaţi se ceartă unul cu altul şi soţia unuia se apropie ca să elibereze pe soţul ei din mâna celui care îl loveşte şi îşi întinde mâna şi îl apucă de părţile ascunse,
And if men should strive together, a man with his brother, and the wife of one of them should advance to rescue her husband out of the hand of him that smites him, and she should stretch forth her hand, and take hold of his private parts;
12 Atunci să îi tai mâna, ochiul tău să nu o cruţe.
thou shalt cut off her hand; thine eye shall not spare her.
13 Să nu ai la tine în sacul tău greutăţi diferite, una mare şi una mică.
Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
14 Să nu ai în casa ta măsuri diferite, una mare şi una mică.
Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.
15 Ci să ai o greutate întreagă şi dreaptă; să ai o măsură întreagă şi dreaptă, ca să ţi se lungească zilele în ţara pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău.
Thou shalt have a true and just weight, and a true and just measure, that thou mayest live long upon the land which the Lord thy God gives thee for an inheritance.
16 Pentru că toţi cei ce fac astfel de lucruri şi toţi cei ce fac nedreptate, sunt o urâciune înaintea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău.
For every one that does this [is] an abomination to the Lord thy God, even every one that does injustice.
17 Aminteşte-ţi de ce ţi-a făcut Amalec pe cale, când aţi ieşit din Egipt;
Remember what things Amalec did to thee by the way, when thou wentest forth out of the land of Egypt:
18 Cum te-a întâmpinat pe cale şi ţi-a lovit spatele, pe toţi cei slabi din spatele tău, când tu erai obosit şi trudit şi el nu s-a temut de Dumnezeu.
how he withstood thee in the way, and harassed thy rear, [even] those that were weary behind thee, and thou didst hunger and wast weary; and he did not fear God.
19 De aceea se va întâmpla, când DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău îţi va fi dat odihnă din partea tuturor duşmanilor tăi de jur împrejur, în ţara pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ca moştenire să o stăpâneşti, că tu să ştergi amintirea lui Amalec de sub cer, să nu uiţi.
And it shall come to pass whenever the Lord thy God shall have given thee rest from all thine enemies round about thee, in the land which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit, thou shalt blot out the name of Amalec from under heaven, and shalt not forget [to do it].
