Deuteronomul 21
1 Dacă în ţara, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău să o stăpâneşti, se va găsi un om ucis, zăcând în câmp, şi nu se ştie cine l-a ucis,
Then there shall be found in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee, the corpse of a man slain, and it is not known who is guilty of the murder,
2 Atunci bătrânii tăi şi judecătorii tăi să iasă şi să măsoare până la cetăţile care sunt împrejurul celui ucis,
Thy ancients and judges shall go out, and shall measure from the place where the body lieth the distance of every city round about:
3 Şi va fi astfel, din cetatea care este lângă cel ucis, bătrânii cetăţii aceleia să ia o viţea, cu care nu s-a lucrat şi care nu a tras la jug;
And the ancients of that city which they shall perceive to be nearer than the rest, shall take a heifer of the herd, that hath not drawn in the yoke, nor ploughed the ground,
4 Şi bătrânii cetăţii aceleia să coboare viţeaua într-o vale nelucrată, în care nici nu s-a recoltat nici nu s-a semănat, şi să frângă gâtul viţelei acolo în vale,
And they shall bring her into a rough and stony valley, that never was ploughed, nor sown: and there they shall strike off the head of the heifer:
5 Şi preoţii, fiii lui Levi, să se apropie, pentru că pe ei i-a ales DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău să îi servească şi să binecuvânteze în numele DOMNULUI; şi prin cuvântul lor să fie încercată orice ceartă şi orice lovitură,
And the priests the sons of Levi shall come, whom the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister to him, and to bless in his name, and that by their word every matter should be decided, and whatsoever is clean or unclean should be judged.
6 Şi toţi bătrânii cetăţii aceleia, care este lângă cel ucis, să îşi spele mâinile deasupra viţelei decapitate în vale,
And the ancients of that city shall come to the person slain, and shall wash their hands over the heifer that was killed in the valley,
7 Şi să răspundă şi să zică: Mâinile noastre nu au vărsat acest sânge, nici ochii noştri nu au văzut.
And shall say: Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it.
8 Fii milostiv, Doamne, faţă de poporul tău Israel, pe care l-ai răscumpărat, şi nu pune sânge nevinovat în contul poporului tău Israel. Şi sângele li se va ierta.
Be merciful to thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, O Lord, and lay not innocent blood to their charge, in the midst of thy people Israel. And the guilt of blood shall be taken from them:
9 Astfel să îndepărtezi sângele nevinovat din mijlocul tău, când vei face ce este drept înaintea ochilor DOMNULUI.
And thou shalt be free from the innocent’s blood, that was shed, when thou shalt have done what the Lord hath commanded thee.
10 Când vei ieşi la război împotriva duşmanilor tăi şi DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău îi va da în mâinile tale şi îi vei lua captivi,
If thou go out to fight against thy enemies, and the Lord thy God deliver them into thy hand, and thou lead them away captives,
11 Şi între cei captivi vei vedea o femeie frumoasă şi vei avea dorinţă spre ea şi vei voi să ţi-o iei de soţie,
And seest in the number of the captives a beautiful woman, and lovest her, and wilt have her to wife,
12 Atunci să o aduci la tine în casa ta şi să îşi radă capul şi să îşi taie unghiile;
Thou shalt bring her into thy house: and she shall shave her hair, and pare her nails,
13 Şi să îşi lepede hainele captivităţii ei de pe ea şi să rămână în casa ta şi să plângă pe tatăl ei şi pe mama ei o lună întreagă, şi după aceea să intri la ea şi să fii soţul ei şi ea să fie soţia ta.
And shall put off the raiment, wherein she was taken: and shall remain in thy house, and mourn for her father and mother one month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and shalt sleep with her, and she shall be thy wife.
14 Şi va fi astfel, dacă nu găseşti plăcere în ea, să îi dai drumul să meargă încotro voieşte; dar să nu o vinzi deloc pe bani; să nu faci comerţ cu ea, pentru că ai înjosit-o.
Rut if afterwards she please thee not, thou shalt let her go free, but thou mayst not sell her for money nor oppress her by might because thou hast humbled her.
15 Dacă un bărbat are două soţii, una iubită şi alta neiubită, şi i-au născut copii, atât cea iubită cât şi cea neiubită, şi dacă fiul întâi-născut este al celei ce nu era iubită,
If a man have two wives, one beloved, and the other hated, and they have had children by him, and the son of the hated be the firstborn,
16 Atunci va fi astfel: în ziua când va da moştenire fiilor săi ceea ce are, nu va putea face întâi-născut pe fiul celei iubite înaintea fiului celei ce nu era iubită, care este cel întâi-născut;
And he meaneth to divide his substance among his sons: he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn, and prefer him before the son of the hated.
17 Ci să recunoască de întâi-născut pe fiul celei ce nu era iubită, dându-i o parte dublă din tot ce are, pentru că el este începutul puterii sale; dreptul de întâi-născut este al lui.
But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, and shall give him a double portion of all he hath: for this is the first of his children, and to him are due the first birthrights.
18 Dacă un om are un fiu încăpățânat şi răzvrătit, care nu va asculta de vocea tatălui său, sau vocea mamei sale, şi când ei îl ceartă, nu le dă ascultare,
If a man have a stubborn and unruly son, who will not hear the commandments of his father or mother, and being corrected, slighteth obedience:
19 Atunci tatăl său şi mama sa să îl apuce şi să îl scoată la bătrânii cetăţii sale şi la poarta locului său.
They shall take him and bring him to the ancients of his city, and to the gate of judgment,
20 Şi să spună bătrânilor cetăţii sale: Acest fiu al nostru este încăpățânat şi răzvrătit, nu ascultă de vocea noastră; este un lacom şi un beţiv.
And shall say to them: This our son is rebellious and stubborn, he slighteth hearing our admonitions, he giveth himself to revelling, and to debauchery and banquetings:
21 Şi toţi oamenii cetăţii sale să îl ucidă cu pietre, ca să moară, astfel să îndepărtezi răul din mijlocul vostru şi tot Israelul să audă şi să se teamă.
The people of the city shall stone him: and he shall die, that you may take away the evil out of the midst of you, and all Israel hearing it may be afraid.
22 Şi dacă un om a făcut un păcat demn de moarte, şi este ucis, şi îl spânzuri de lemn,
When a man hath committed a crime for which he is to be punished with death, and being condemned to die is hanged on a gibbet:
23 Trupul lui să nu rămână toată noaptea pe lemn, ci să îl înmormântezi chiar în acea zi; (pentru că cel spânzurat este blestemat de Dumnezeu) ca să nu fie pângărită ţara ta, pe care ţi-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ca moştenire.
His body shall not remain upon the tree, but shall be buried the same day: for he is accursed of God that hangeth on a tree: and thou shalt not defile thy land, which the Lord thy God shall give thee in possession.
