Faptele 6

1 Și în acele zile, înmulțindu-se numărul discipolilor, s-a ridicat o cârtire a grecilor împotriva evreilor, pentru că văduvele lor erau neglijate în servirea zilnică.

But, in these days, the disciples, multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, in that, their widows, were being overlooked in the daily ministry.

2 Atunci, cei doisprezece au chemat la ei mulțimea discipolilor și au spus: Nu se cuvine ca noi să părăsim cuvântul lui Dumnezeu și să servim la mese.

And the Twelve, calling near the throng of the disciples, said—It doth not seem, right, that, we, forsaking the word of God, should be ministering unto tables.

3 De aceea fraților, alegeți dintre voi șapte bărbați cu o mărturie bună, plini de Duhul Sfânt și înțelepciune, pe care noi să îi punem peste această nevoie.

But look out for yourselves, brethren, seven men from among you, who can be well-attested, full of Spirit and wisdom, —whom we will appoint over this need;

4 Iar pe noi ne vom da necontenit rugăciunii și servirii cuvântului.

But, we, unto prayer and unto the ministry of the word, will give constant attention.

5 Și cuvântul a plăcut înaintea întregii mulțimi; și l-au ales pe Ștefan, un bărbat plin de credință și de Duhul Sfânt, și pe Filip și Procor și Nicanor și Timon și Parmena și Nicolae, un prozelit din Antiohia,

And the word was pleasing in the sight of all the throng; and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholaus, a proselyte of Antioch;

6 Pe care i-au adus înaintea apostolilor; și după ce s-au rugat, și-au pus mâinile peste ei.

Whom they set before the Apostles, and, praying, they laid upon them their hands.

7 Și cuvântul lui Dumnezeu a crescut; și numărul discipolilor s-a înmulțit mult în Ierusalim; și o mare mulțime de preoți au fost ascultători față de credință.

And, the word of God, went on growing, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem continued to multiply exceedingly; a great multitude of the priests also, were becoming obedient unto the faith.

8 Și Ștefan, plin de credință și putere, făcea mari minuni și miracole în popor.

Now, Stephen, full of favour and power, began to do great wonders and signs among the people.

9 Atunci s-au sculat unii din sinagoga care este numită a libertinilor, și cirenieni și alexandrini și dintre cei din Cilicia și din Asia, dezbătând cu Ștefan.

But there rose up certain of those out of the synagogue which is called [the synagogue] of them of Libertium and Cyrene and Alexandria, and certain of them from Cilicia and Asia, —disputing with Stephen;

10 Și nu au fost în stare să se împotrivească înțelepciunii și duhului prin care vorbea.

And they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking,

11 Atunci au mituit bărbați, care au spus: L-am auzit vorbind cuvinte blasfematoare împotriva lui Moise și a lui Dumnezeu.

Then, they set on men who were saying—We have heard him speaking profane things against Moses and God.

12 Și au întărâtat poporul și pe bătrâni și pe scribi; și au venit peste el și l-au prins și l-au dus la consiliu,

And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes; and, coming upon him, they caught him away, and led him into the high-council.

13 Și au pus martori falși, care spuneau: Acest om nu încetează să vorbească cuvinte blasfematoare împotriva acestui loc sfânt și a legii;

And they set up false witnesses, who said—This man, ceaseth not speaking things against this holy place and the law;

14 Fiindcă l-am auzit spunând că acest Isus din Nazaret va distruge locul acesta și va schimba obiceiurile pe care ni le-a dat Moise.

For we have heard him saying—This Jesus the Nazarene, will overthrow this place, and will change the customs which, Moses, delivered unto us.

15 Și toți care ședeau în consiliu, uitându-se cu atenție la el, vedeau fața lui ca fața unui înger.

And, looking steadfastly at him, all they who were sitting in the high-council, saw his face, as if the face of a messenger;
