Faptele 17
1 Și, după ce au trecut prin Amfipolis și Apolonia, au venit la Tesalonic, unde era o sinagogă a iudeilor;
And having traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came into Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 Iar Pavel, după cum avea obiceiul, a intrat la ei, și trei zile de sabat a discutat cu ei din scripturi,
And according to custom to Paul, he came in unto them, and for three Sabbaths he expounded unto them from the scriptures,
3 Expunând și afirmând că trebuia să sufere Cristos și să învie dintre morți; și spunând că: Acest Isus, pe care vi-l predic eu, este Cristos.
opening and proving, that it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead, and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is the Christ.
4 Și unii dintre ei au crezut și s-au alăturat lui Pavel și Sila; și dintre grecii religioși o mare mulțime și nu puține dintre femeile de seamă.
And certain ones of them were persuaded, and identified themselves with Paul and Silas, and of the pious Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 Dar iudeii, care nu au crezut, împinși de invidie, au luat cu ei niște însoțitori desfrânați, de soi josnic, și au strâns o mulțime și au pus toată cetatea în tulburare și au asaltat casa lui Iason, căutând să îi aducă la popor.
But the Jews giving away to jealousy, and receiving to themselves certain wicked men of those around the forum, and raising a mob, continued to put the city in an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they were seeking to lead them out to the people:
6 Și, negăsindu-i, au târât pe Iason și pe unii frați la magistrații cetății, strigând: Aceștia care au răscolit lumea au venit și aici;
but not finding them, they dragged Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, roaring that, These who have turned the world upside down are also come hither;
7 Pe ei Iason i-a primit; și toți aceștia lucrează împotriva hotărârilor Cezarului, spunând că este un alt împărat, Isus.
whom Jason has received: and all these are doing contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another King, Jesus.
8 Și au tulburat mulțimea și magistrații cetății, când au auzit acestea.
And they excited the rabble and the city rulers hearing these things;
9 Și după ce au luat garanție de la Iason și de la ceilalți, le-au dat drumul.
and having received satisfaction from Jason and the others they sent them away.
10 Iar frații au trimis îndată, în timpul nopții, deopotrivă pe Pavel și Sila la Bereea; care, venind, au intrat în sinagoga iudeilor.
But the brethren immediately sent away both Paul and Silas to Berea by night, who coming into the synagogue of the Jews departed;
11 Dar aceștia erau mai nobili decât cei din Tesalonic, în aceea că au primit cuvântul cu toată bunăvoința minții și cercetau în fiecare zi scripturile, dacă lucrurile acelea erau așa.
but these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all enthusiasm, searching the scriptures daily, if these things are so.
12 De aceea mulți dintre ei au crezut; și dintre femeile grecoaice demne de cinste și nu puțini dintre bărbați.
Then indeed many of them believed, and of the noble Greek women and men, not a few;
13 Dar când iudeii din Tesalonic au știut că și în Bereea era predicat de către Pavel cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, au venit și acolo și au stârnit poporul.
but when the Jews from Thessalonica knew that the word of God was preached by Paul in Berea, they came thither also, agitating and stirring up the rabbles.
14 Și atunci, frații l-au trimis îndată pe Pavel ca și cum ar fi mers spre mare; dar și Sila și Timotei au rămas amândoi acolo.
But immediately at that time the brethren sent away Paul to travel even to the sea: and Silas and Timothy remained there.
15 Și cei ce îl conduceau pe Pavel, l-au adus la Atena; și, primind poruncă pentru Sila și Timotei, ca să vină la el cu toată graba, au plecat.
But having embarked Paul, they led him even to Athens: and receiving commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him as quickly as possible, they departed from him.
16 Și, în timp ce Pavel îi aștepta la Atena, i s-a întărâtat duhul în el când a văzut cetatea cu totul dedată idolatriei.
But Paul waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, seeing the city devoted to idolatry.
17 De aceea dezbătea în sinagogă cu iudeii și cu cei religioși și în fiecare zi în piață cu cei ce îl întâlneau.
Then indeed he spoke to the Jews, and to the worshipers in the synagogue, and to those incidentally meeting him every day in the forum.
18 Atunci, l-au întâlnit unii filozofi dintre epicurieni și dintre stoici. Și unii spuneau: Ce dorește să spună guralivul acesta? Iar alții: Se pare că este proclamatorul unor dumnezei străini, pentru că le predica pe Isus și învierea.
And certain ones of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers interviewed him, and some continued to say, What would this babbler wish to say? and others said, He seems to be the propagator of strange divinities: because he was preaching the gospel of Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 Și l-au luat și l-au adus în Areopag, spunând: Putem ști ce [este] doctrina aceasta nouă, despre care vorbești?
And taking him, they led him to the Areopagus, saying; Are we able to know what is this new teaching, spoken by thee?
20 Fiindcă aduci lucruri străine la urechile noastre; de aceea intenționăm să știm ce înseamnă acestea.
For you bring certain strange things to our hearing: therefore we desire to know what these things wish to be.
21 (Fiindcă toți atenienii și străinii care erau acolo nu își petreceau timpul cu nimic altceva decât să spună, sau să audă ceva nou.)
But all the Athenians and itinerant strangers were accustomed to devote their time to nothing else, than to tell something new, or to hear something.
22 Atunci Pavel a stat în picioare în mijlocul Areopagului și a spus: Bărbați din Atena, îmi dau seama că în toate lucrurile voi sunteți prea superstițioși.
And Paul standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said, Athenian men, I perceive that in all things you are very religious.
23 Căci cum treceam și priveam la lucrurile voastre de închinare, am găsit și un altar pe care era inscripționat: DUMNEZEULUI NECUNOSCUT. Acestuia așadar, căruia voi vă închinați ignorant, pe acesta vi-l predic eu.
For going through, and seeing your devotions, I also found an altar on which it was superscribed, To THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore I now preach unto you Him whom you are ignorantly worshiping.
24 Dumnezeu care a făcut lumea și toate lucrurile în ea, fiindcă este Domnul cerului și al pământului, nu locuiește în temple făcute prin mâini;
God having made the world and all things which are in it, being himself Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands;
25 Nici nu este adorat cu mâinile oamenilor, ca și cum ar avea nevoie de ceva, el care dă tuturor viață și suflare și toate;
neither is he worshiped by human hands, as if needing something, Himself having given life, and breath, and all things to all;
26 Și a făcut dintr-un singur sânge toate națiunile oamenilor să locuiască pe toată fața pământului, și a hotărât timpurile dinainte rânduite și granițele locuinței lor;
and of (one) man he created every nation of men to dwell upon the whole face of the earth, having determined their predestinated times, and the boundaries of their habitation;
27 Ca să îl caute pe Domnul, dacă, ar putea cumva să îl caute bâjbâind și să îl găsească, deși nu este departe de fiecare dintre noi;
that they should seek God, if perhaps indeed they might feel after him, and find him, though not being far from each one of you.
28 Fiindcă în el trăim și ne mișcăm și avem ființă; cum au spus unii dintre poeții voștri: Fiindcă și noi suntem urmașii lui.
For in him we live and move and have our being, as indeed certain ones of your own poets have said, For we are truly his offspring.
29 Fiind așadar urmași ai lui Dumnezeu, nu ar trebui să gândim că Dumnezeirea este asemenea aurului sau argintului, sau pietrei, cioplită prin arta și planul omului.
Then being the offspring of God, we ought not to think that divinity is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, the invention of art and the device of man.
30 Și Dumnezeu a trecut cu vederea timpurile acestei ignoranțe; dar acum, poruncește tuturor oamenilor de pretutindeni, să se pocăiască;
Then indeed God winking at the times of ignorance, now commands all men everywhere to repent:
31 Pentru că a stabilit o zi în care el va judeca lumea în dreptate prin acel bărbat pe care l-a rânduit; prin care a dat asigurare tuturor, prin aceea că l-a înviat dintre morți.
as He has appointed a day, in which he is about to judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; giving faith to all, having raised Him from the dead.
32 Și, auzind despre învierea dintre morți, unii și-au bătut joc; și alții spuneau: Te vom asculta din nou despre aceasta.
And having heard the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: others said; We will hear thee concerning this even again.
33 Așa că Pavel a plecat din mijlocul lor.
So Paul went out from their midst.
34 Totuși unii bărbați s-au alipit de el și au crezut, între care și Dionisie Areopagitul și o femeie numită Damaris și alții cu ei.
But certain men, having adhered to him, believed; among whom was also Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman Damarias by name, and others along with them.
