2 Samuel 18
1 Și David a numărat poporul care era cu el și a pus peste ei căpetenii peste mii și căpetenii peste sute.
Then Dauid numbred the people that were with him, and set ouer them captaines of thousands and captaines of hundreths.
2 Și David a trimis o a treia parte din popor sub mâna lui Ioab și o a treia parte sub mâna lui Abișai, fiul Țeruiei, fratele lui Ioab, și o a treia parte sub mâna lui Itai ghititul. Și împăratul a spus poporului: Voi ieși negreșit și eu însumi cu voi.
And Dauid sent foorth the third part of the people vnder the hand of Ioab, and the thirde part vnder the hand of Abishai Ioabs brother the sonne of Zeruiah: and the other third part vnder the hand of Ittai the Gittite. and the King said vnto the people, I will go with you my selfe also.
3 Dar poporul a răspuns: Să nu ieși, pentru că dacă noi fugim, lor nu le va păsa de noi; nici dacă jumătate din noi mor, nu le vor păsa de noi; ci acum tu ești prețuit cât zece mii dintre noi; de aceea acum, este mai bine ca tu să ne ajuți din cetate.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not goe foorth: for if we flee away, they will not regarde vs, neither will they passe for vs, though halfe of vs were slaine: but thou art now worth ten thousande of vs: therefore nowe it is better that thou succour vs out of the citie.
4 Și împăratul le-a spus: Ce vi se pare cel mai bine voi face. Și împăratul a stat în picioare lângă poartă și tot poporul a ieșit cu sutele și cu miile.
Then the King said vnto them, What seemeth you best, that I will doe. So the King stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreths and by thousands.
5 Și împăratul a poruncit lui Ioab și lui Abișai și lui Itai, spunând: Purtați-vă blând de dragul meu cu acel tânăr, cu Absalom. Și tot poporul a auzit când împăratul a dat poruncă tuturor căpeteniilor referitor la Absalom.
And the King commanded Ioab and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Entreate the yong man Absalom gently for my sake. and all the people heard whe the King gaue al the captaines charge concerning Absalom.
6 Astfel poporul a ieșit în câmp împotriva lui Israel; și bătălia a fost în pădurea lui Efraim;
So the people went out into the fielde to meete Israel, and the battell was in the wood of Ephraim:
7 Și poporul lui Israel a fost ucis înaintea servitorilor lui David și a fost acolo un mare măcel în acea zi, de douăzeci de mii de oameni.
Where the people of Israel were slaine before the seruants of Dauid: so there was a great slaughter that day, euen of twentie thousande.
8 Fiindcă bătălia a fost împrăștiată, acolo peste toată fața țării; și pădurea a mâncat mai mult popor în acea zi decât a mâncat sabia.
For the battel was skattered ouer all the countrey: and the wood deuoured much more people that day, then did the sworde.
9 Și Absalom a întâlnit pe servitorii lui David. Și Absalom călărea pe un catâr și catârul a intrat sub ramurile dese al unui stejar mare și capul lui s-a prins de stejar și a fost ridicat între cer și pământ; și catârul care era sub el a mers înainte.
Nowe Absalom met the seruants of Dauid, and Absalom rode vpon a mule, and the mule came vnder a great thicke oke: and his head caught holde of the oke, and he was taken vp betweene the heauen and the earth: and the mule that was vnder him went away.
10 Și un anumit om a văzut și i-a spus lui Ioab și a zis: Iată, am văzut pe Absalom spânzurat într-un stejar.
And one that sawe it, tolde Ioab, saying, Beholde, I sawe Absalom hanged in an oke.
11 Și Ioab a spus omului care îi spusese: Și, iată, l-ai văzut și de ce nu l-ai lovit acolo la pământ? Și ți-aș fi dat zece șekeli de argint și un brâu.
Then Ioab saide vnto the man that tolde him, And hast thou in deede seene? why then diddest thou not there smite him to the grounde, and I woulde haue giuen thee ten shekels of siluer, and a girdle?
12 Și omul i-a spus lui Ioab: Chiar dacă aș primi o mie de șekeli de argint în mâna mea, totuși nu mi-aș fi întins mâna împotriva fiului împăratului, pentru că în auzul nostru împăratul ți-a poruncit ție și lui Abișai și lui Itai, spunând: Luați seama ca nimeni să nu atingă pe tânărul Absalom.
Then the man saide vnto Ioab, Though I should receiue a thousande shekels of siluer in mine hande, yet woulde I not lay mine hande vpon the Kings sonne: for in our hearing the King charged thee, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Beware, least any touche the yong man Absalom.
13 Altfel aș fi lucrat falsitate împotriva propriei mele vieți, pentru că nu este niciun lucru ascuns înaintea împăratului și tu însuți te-ai fi pus împotriva mea.
If I had done it, it had bene the danger of my life: for nothing can be hid from the King: yea, thou thy selfe wouldest haue bin against me.
14 Atunci a spus Ioab: Nu o să stau astfel cu tine. Și a luat trei săgeți în mână și le-a înfipt în inima lui Absalom, în timp ce el era încă viu în mijlocul stejarului.
Then saide Ioab, I will not thus tary with thee. And he tooke three dartes in his hande, and thrust them through Absalom, while he was yet aliue in the middes of the oke.
15 Și zece tineri care purtau armura lui Ioab l-au încercuit și l-au lovit pe Absalom și l-au ucis.
And tenne seruants that bare Ioabs armour, compassed about and smote Absalom, and slewe him.
16 Și Ioab a sunat din trâmbiță și poporul s-a întors de la urmărirea lui Israel, pentru că Ioab a cruțat poporul.
Then Ioab blewe the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Ioab helde backe the people.
17 Și l-au luat pe Absalom și l-au aruncat într-o groapă mare în pădure și au pus o foarte mare movilă de pietre peste el; și tot Israelul a fugit fiecare la cortul său.
And they tooke Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and layed a mightie great heape of stones vpon him: and all Israel fled euery one to his tent.
18 Acum Absalom, în timpul vieții sale, își luase și își așezase un stâlp, care este în valea împăratului, fiindcă spunea: Eu nu am un fiu care să păstreze numele meu în amintire; și a numit stâlpul după numele său; și este numit până în această zi, locul lui Absalom.
Nowe Absalom in his life time had taken and reared him vp a pillar, which is in the kings dale: for he saide, I haue no sonne to keepe my name in remembrance. and he called the pillar after his owne name, and it is called vnto this day, Absaloms place.
19 Atunci a spus Ahimaaț, fiul lui Țadoc: Lasă-mă acum să alerg și să duc împăratului vești, cum că DOMNUL l-a răzbunat de dușmanii săi.
Then said Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok, I pray thee, let me runne, and beare the King tidings that the Lord hath deliuered him out of the hande of his enemies.
20 Și Ioab i-a spus: Tu nu vei duce vești în această zi, ci vei duce vești într-o altă zi; dar nu astăzi vei duce vești, deoarece fiul împăratului este mort.
And Ioab said vnto him, Thou shalt not be the messenger to day, but thou shalt beare tidings another time, but to day thou shalt beare none: for the Kings sonne is dead.
21 Atunci Ioab i-a spus lui Cuși: Du-te și spune împăratului ce ai văzut. Și Cuși s-a plecat înaintea lui Ioab și a alergat.
Then said Ioab to Cushi, Goe, tel the king, what thou hast seene. And Cushi bowed himselfe vnto Ioab, and ran.
22 Atunci Ahimaaț, fiul lui Țadoc, i-a spus din nou lui Ioab: Dar oricum, lasă-mă, te rog, să alerg de asemenea după Cuși. Și Ioab a spus: Pentru ce să alergi, fiul meu, văzând că nu ai vești pregătite?
Then saide Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok againe to Ioab, What, I pray thee, if I also runne after Cushi? And Ioab said, Wherefore now wilt thou runne, my sonne, seeing that thou hast no tidings to bring?
23 Dar orice ar fi, a spus el, lasă-mă să alerg. Și Ioab i-a spus: Aleargă. Atunci Ahimaaț a alergat pe calea câmpiei și l-a întrecut pe Cuși.
Yet what if I runne? Then he saide vnto him, Runne. So Ahimaaz ranne by the way of the plaine, and ouerwent Cushi.
24 Și David stătea între cele două porți; și paznicul s-a urcat pe acoperișul de pe poartă, pe zid și și-a ridicat ochii și a privit și, iată, un om alergând singur.
Now Dauid sate betweene the two gates. And the watchman went to the top of the gate vpon the wall, and lift vp his eyes, and sawe, and beholde, a man came running alone.
25 Și paznicul a strigat și a spus împăratului. Și împăratul a spus: Dacă este singur, sunt vești în gura lui. Și el venea iute și se apropia.
And the watchman cryed, and tolde ye king. And the King said, If he be alone, he bringeth tidings. And he came apace, and drew neere.
26 Și paznicul a văzut un alt om alergând; și paznicul a strigat la portar și a spus: Iată, un alt om alergând singur. Și împăratul a spus: Și el aduce vești.
And the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called vnto the porter, and said, Behold, another man runneth alone. And the King said, He also bringeth tidings.
27 Și paznicul a spus: Eu cred că alergarea celui dintâi este ca alergarea lui Ahimaaț, fiul lui Țadoc. Și împăratul a spus: El este un om bun și vine cu vești bune.
And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the formost is like the running of Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok. Then the King said, He is a good man, and commeth with good tidings.
28 Și Ahimaaț a strigat și a spus împăratului: Totul este bine. Și a căzut cu fața la pământ înaintea împăratului și a spus: Binecuvântat fie DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, care ne-a dat pe oamenii care și-au ridicat mâna împotriva domnului meu, împăratul.
And Ahimaaz called, and sayde vnto the King, Peace be with thee: and he fell downe to the earth vpon his face before the King, and saide, Blessed be the Lord thy God, who hath shut vp the men that lift vp their handes against my lorde the King.
29 Și împăratul a spus: Este tânărul Absalom în siguranță? Și Ahimaaț a răspuns: Când Ioab a trimis pe servitorul împăratului și pe mine servitorul tău, am văzut un mare tumult, dar nu am știut ce era.
And the King saide, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Ioab sent the Kings seruant, and me thy seruant, I sawe a great tumult, but I knewe not what.
30 Și împăratul i-a spus: Dă-te la o parte și stai în picioare aici. Și s-a dat la o parte și a stat în picioare pe loc.
And the King said vnto him, Turne aside, and stand here. so he turned aside and stoode still.
31 Și, iată, a venit Cuși; și Cuși a spus: Am vești pentru domnul meu, împăratul; fiindcă DOMNUL te-a răzbunat în această zi de toți cei care se ridicaseră împotriva ta.
And beholde, Cushi came, and Cushi saide, Tidings, my lorde the King: for the Lord hath deliuered thee this day out of the hande of all that rose against thee.
32 Și împăratul i-a spus lui Cuși: Este tânărul Absalom în siguranță? Și Cuși a răspuns: Dușmanii domnului meu împăratul și toți cei care se ridică împotriva ta pentru a te vătăma, fie precum este acel tânăr.
Then the King saide vnto Cushi, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lorde the King, and all that rise against thee to doe thee hurt, be as that yong man is.
33 Și împăratul a fost foarte mișcat și a urcat sus în camera de deasupra porții și a plâns; și pe când mergea, spunea astfel: O, fiul meu Absalom, fiul meu, fiul meu Absalom! De ar fi voit Dumnezeu, aș fi murit pentru tine. O, Absalom, fiul meu, fiul meu!
And the King was mooued, and went vp to the chamber ouer the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my sonne Absalom, my sonne, my sonne Absalom: woulde God I had dyed for thee, O Absalom, my sonne, my sonne.
