1 Iosia era în vârstă de opt ani când a început să domnească și a domnit treizeci și unu de ani în Ierusalim. Și numele mamei lui era Iedida, fiica lui Adaia, din Boțcat.

Iosiah was eight yeere olde when he beganne to reigne, and hee reigned one and thirtie yeere in Ierusalem. His mothers name also was Iedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozcath.

2 Și el a făcut ce este drept înaintea ochilor DOMNULUI și a umblat în toată calea lui David, tatăl său, și nu s-a abătut la dreapta sau la stânga.

And hee did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

3 Și s-a întâmplat, în anul al optsprezecelea al împăratului Iosia, că împăratul a trimis pe Șafan, fiul lui Ațalia, fiul lui Meșulam, scribul, la casa DOMNULUI, spunând:

And in the eighteenth yeere of King Iosiah, the King sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah the sonne of Meshullam the chanceller to ye house of the Lord, saying,

4 Urcă-te la Hilchia, marele preot, ca el să socotească argintul adus în casa DOMNULUI, pe care păzitorii ușii l-au adunat de la popor;

Goe vp to Hilkiah the high Priest, that hee may summe the siluer which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the doore haue gathered of the people.

5 Și să îi dea în mâna celor ce fac lucrarea, care au supravegherea casei DOMNULUI; și ei să îi dea celor ce fac lucrarea care este în casa DOMNULUI, pentru a repara spărturile casei,

And let them deliuer it into the hande of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord: let them giue it to them that worke in the house of the Lord, to repaire the decayed places of the house:

6 Tâmplarilor și constructorilor și pietrarilor și pentru a cumpăra lemnărie și piatră cioplită pentru a repara casa.

To wit, vnto the artificers and carpenters and masons, and to bye timber, and hewed stone to repaire the house.

7 Totuși nu a fost o numărătoare făcută cu ei despre banii dați în mâna lor, căci se purtau cu credincioșie.

Howebeit, let no rekoning bee made with them of the money, that is deliuered into their hand: for they deale faithfully.

8 Și Hilchia, marele preot, i-a spus lui Șafan scribul: Am găsit cartea legii în casa DOMNULUI. Și Hilchia i-a dat lui Șafan cartea și el a citit-o.

And Hilkiah the high Priest sayde vnto Shaphan the chanceller, I haue found the booke of the Lawe in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan, and hee reade it.

9 Și scribul Șafan a venit la împărat și a adus din nou cuvânt împăratului și a spus: Servitorii tăi au adunat banii care au fost găsiți în casă și i-au dat în mâna celor ce fac lucrarea, care au supravegherea casei DOMNULUI.

So Shaphan the chanceller came to ye King, and brought him word againe, and saide, Thy seruants haue gathered the money, that was found in the house, and haue deliuered it vnto the hands of them that doe the worke, and haue the ouersight of the house of the Lord.

10 Și scribul Șafan i-a arătat împăratului, spunând: Preotul Hilchia mi-a dat o carte. Și Șafan a citit-o înaintea împăratului.

Also Shaphan the chanceller shewed the King saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath deliuered me a booke. And Shaphan read it before the King.

11 Și s-a întâmplat, când împăratul a auzit cuvintele cărții legii, că și-a rupt hainele.

And when the King had heard the wordes of the booke of the Law, he rent his clothes.

12 Și împăratul i-a poruncit preotului Hilchia și lui Ahicam, fiul lui Șafan, și lui Acbor, fiul lui Micaia, și lui Șafan, scribul, și lui Asaia, un servitor al împăratului, spunând:

Therefore the King commanded Hilkiah the Priest, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Achbor the sonne of Michaiah, and Shaphan the chanceller, and Asahiah the Kings seruant, saying,

13 Mergeți, întrebați pe DOMNUL pentru mine și pentru popor și pentru tot Iuda referitor la cuvintele acestei cărți care a fost găsită, pentru că mare este furia DOMNULUI care s-a aprins împotriva noastră, pentru că părinții noștri nu au dat ascultare cuvintelor acestei cărți, pentru a face conform cu tot ce este scris despre noi.

Go ye and inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Iudah concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against vs, because our fathers haue not obeyed the wordes of this booke, to doe according vnto all that which is written therein for vs.

14 Astfel preotul Hilchia și Ahicam și Acbor și Șafan și Asaia au mers la profetesa Hulda, soția lui Șalum, fiul lui Ticva, fiul lui Harhas, păzitorul garderobei; (și ea locuia în Ierusalim în școala profeților) și au vorbit îndeaproape cu ea.

So Hilkiah the Priest and Ahikam, and Achbor and Shaphan, and Asahiah went vnto Huldah the Prophetesse the wife of Shallum, ye sonne of Tikuah, the sonne of Harhas keeper of the wardrobe: (and she dwelt in Ierusalem in the colledge) and they communed with her.

15 Și ea le-a zis: Astfel spune DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel: Spuneți omului care v-a trimis la mine;

And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tel the man that sent you to mee,

16 Astfel spune DOMNUL: Iată, voi aduce răul asupra acestui loc și asupra locuitorilor lui, toate cuvintele cărții pe care împăratul lui Iuda le-a citit;

Thus sayth the Lord, Behold, I wil bring euill vpon this place, and on the inhabitants thereof, euen al the words of the booke which ye King of Iudah hath read,

17 Deoarece ei m-au părăsit și au ars tămâie altor dumnezei, ca să mă provoace la mânie cu toate lucrările mâinilor lor; de aceea furia mea se va aprinde împotriva acestui loc și nu se va stinge.

Because they haue forsaken mee, and haue burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger me with all ye works of their hands: my wrath also shalbe kindled against this place and shall not be queched:

18 Dar împăratului lui Iuda, care v-a trimis să întrebați pe DOMNUL, astfel să îi spuneți: Astfel spune DOMNUL Dumnezeul lui Israel cu privire la cuvintele pe care le-ai auzit;

But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, The wordes that thou hast heard, shall come to passe.

19 Pentru că inima ta a fost moale și te-ai umilit înaintea DOMNULUI când ai auzit ce am vorbit împotriva acestui loc și împotriva locuitorilor săi, că vor deveni o pustiire și un blestem, și ți-ai rupt hainele și ai plâns înaintea mea eu de asemenea te-am ascultat, spune DOMNUL.

But because thine heart did melt, and thou hast humbled thy selfe before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants of the same, to wit, that it should be destroyed and accursed, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me, I haue also heard it, saith the Lord.

20 De aceea, iată, te voi aduna la părinții tăi și vei fi adunat în mormântul tău în pace; și ochii tăi nu vor vedea tot răul pe care îl voi aduce asupra acestui loc. Și au adus acest răspuns împăratului.

Beholde therefore, I wil gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euil, which I will bring vpon this place. Thus they brought the King worde againe.
