1 Samuel 11
1 Atunci Nahaș amonitul s-a urcat și a așezat tabăra împotriva Iabes-Galaadului; și toți oamenii din Iabes au spus lui Nahaș: Fă legământ cu noi și te vom servi.
Then came up Nachash the 'Ammonite, and encamped against Yabesh-gil'ad: and all the men of Yabesh said unto Nachash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
2 Și Nahaș amonitul le-a răspuns: Cu această condiție voi încheia un legământ cu voi, dacă vă scot tuturor ochiul drept și să îl pun ca o batjocură asupra întregului Israel.
And Nachash the 'Ammonite said unto them, On this condition will I make it with you, that ye all have put out the right eye, that I may lay it as a reproach upon all Israel.
3 Și bătrânii Iabesului i-au spus: Dă-ne șapte zile de amânare, ca să trimitem mesageri în toate ținuturile lui Israel; și dacă nu este nimeni să ne salveze, vom ieși la tine.
And the elders of Yabesh said unto him, Grant us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers throughout all the boundary of Israel; and then, if there be none to save us, will we come out to thee.
4 Atunci au venit mesagerii la Ghibea lui Saul și au spus veștile în urechile poporului; și tot poporul și-a ridicat vocea și a plâns.
And the messengers came to Gib'ah of Saul, and spoke the words in the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 Și, iată, Saul venea în urma cirezii de la câmp; și Saul a spus: Ce îi este poporului de plânge? Și i-au spus toate veștile bărbaților din Iabes.
And, behold, Saul was coming after the herds out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Yabesh.
6 Și Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit peste Saul când a auzit aceste vești și mânia lui s-a aprins foarte tare.
And the spirit of God came suddenly over Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was kindled greatly,
7 Și a luat o pereche de boi și i-a despicat în bucăți și le-a trimis în toate ținuturile lui Israel prin mâinile mesagerilor, spunând: Oricine nu iese după Saul și după Samuel, astfel se va face boilor lui. Și frica DOMNULUI a căzut asupra poporului și ei au ieșit într-un acord.
And he took a yoke of oxen, and cut them in pieces, and sent them about throughout all the boundary of Israel by the hand of the messengers, saying, Whosoever goeth not forth after Saul and after Samuel, shall have his herds thus treated. And the dread of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one man.
8 Și după ce i-a numărat la Bezec, copiii lui Israel erau trei sute de mii, iar bărbații lui Iuda treizeci de mii.
And he numbered them in Bezek; and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
9 Și au spus mesagerilor care veniseră: Astfel să spuneți bărbaților din Iabes-Galaad: Mâine, pe când arde soarele, veți avea ajutor. Și mesagerii au venit și au arătat aceasta bărbaților din Iabes; și ei s-au bucurat.
And they said unto the messengers that were come, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Yabesh-gil'ad, Tomorrow shall ye have help, when the sun shineth hot. And the messengers came and told it to the men of Yabesh; and these were glad.
10 De aceea bărbații din Iabes au spus: Mâine vom ieși la voi și să ne faceți tot ce vi se pare bun.
And the men of Yabesh said, Tomorrow will we go out unto you, and ye can do unto us in accordance with all that seemeth good in your eyes.
11 Și a fost astfel a doua zi, că Saul a pus poporul în trei cete; și ei au intrat în mijlocul oștirii în garda de dimineață și au ucis pe amoniți până la arșița zilei; și s-a întâmplat, că aceia care au rămas au fost împrăștiați, astfel încât nu au rămas doi împreună dintre ei.
And it happened on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and they smote the 'Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that those that remained were scattered, and no two among them were left together.
12 Și poporul a spus lui Samuel: Cine este cel care a spus: Să domnească Saul peste noi? Aduceți pe oamenii aceia, ca să îi dăm la moarte.
And the people said unto Samuel, Who is there that saith, Shall Saul reign over us? give up the men, and we will put them to death.
13 Și Saul a spus: Niciun om nu va fi dat la moarte în această zi, pentru că astăzi DOMNUL a lucrat salvare în Israel.
And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death on this day; for today the Lord hath wrought deliverance in Israel.
14 Atunci Samuel a spus poporului: Veniți să mergem la Ghilgal și să înnoim împărăția acolo.
And Samuel said to the people, Come and let us go to Gilgal, and renew there the choice of the king.
15 Și tot poporul a mers la Ghilgal; și acolo au făcut pe Saul împărat înaintea DOMNULUI, în Ghilgal; și au sacrificat acolo sacrificii ale ofrandelor de pace înaintea DOMNULUI; și acolo Saul și toți bărbații lui Israel s-au bucurat foarte mult.
And all the people went to Gilgal; and they appointed there Saul as king before the Lord in Gilgal; and they sacrificed there sacrifices of peace-offerings before the Lord; and Saul with all the men of Israel rejoiced there very greatly.
