1 Şi Solomon s-a înrudit prin căsătorie cu Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, şi a luat pe fiica lui Faraon şi a adus-o în cetatea lui David, până avea să termine de zidit casa lui şi casa DOMNULUI şi zidul Ierusalimului de jur împrejur.
And the wisdom of Solomon abounded exceedingly beyond the wisdom of all the ancients, and beyond all the wise men of Egypt: and he took the daughter of Pharao, and brought her into the city of David, until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the Lord first, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 Numai că poporul sacrifica pe înălţimi, deoarece nu era zidită o casă numelui DOMNULUI până în acele zile.
Nevertheless the people burnt incense on the high places, because a house had not yet been built to the Lord.
3 Şi Solomon îl iubea pe DOMNUL, umblând în statutele lui David, tatăl său, numai că sacrifica şi ardea tămâie pe înălţimi.
And Solomon loved the Lord, [so as] to walk in the ordinances of David his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.
4 Şi împăratul a mers la Gabaon pentru a sacrifica acolo, pentru că aceasta era înălţimea cea mare; o mie de ofrande arse a oferit Solomon pe acel altar.
And he arose and went to Gabaon to sacrifice there, for that [was] the highest place, and great: Solomon offered a whole burnt offering of a thousand [victims] on the altar in Gabaon.
5 La Gabaon, DOMNUL i-a apărut lui Solomon într-un vis noaptea; şi Dumnezeu a spus: Cere ce doreşti să îţi dau.
And the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and the Lord said to Solomon, Ask some petition for yourself.
6 Şi Solomon a spus: Tu ai arătat servitorului tău David, tatăl meu, mare milă, conform umblării lui înaintea ta în adevăr şi în dreptate şi în integritate a inimii faţă de tine; şi ai păstrat pentru el această mare bunătate, că i-ai dat un fiu să şadă pe tronul său, aşa cum este în această zi.
And Solomon said, You have dealt very mercifully with your servant David my father according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you, and you have kept for him this great mercy, to set his son upon his throne, as [it is] this day.
7 Şi acum, DOAMNE Dumnezeul meu, tu l-ai făcut pe servitorul tău împărat în locul lui David, tatăl meu; şi eu sunt doar un copil mic; nu ştiu cum să ies sau să intru.
And now, O Lord my God, you have appointed your servant in the room of David my father; and I am a little child, and know not my going out an my coming in.
8 Şi servitorul tău este în mijlocul poporului tău pe care l-ai ales, un popor mare, care nu poate fi numărat nici socotit din cauza mulţimii lui.
But your servant [is] in the midst of your people, whom you have chosen, a great people, which as this day can’t be numbered.
9 Dă de aceea servitorului tău o inimă care înţelege pentru a judeca pe poporul tău, ca să discern între bine şi rău, pentru că cine poate judeca pe acest mare popor al tău?
You shall give therefore to your servant a heart to hear and to judge your people justly, and to discern between good and evil: for who will be able to judge this your great people?
10 Şi vorbirea i-a plăcut DOMNULUI, că Solomon a cerut acest lucru.
And it was pleasing before the Lord, that Solomon asked this thing.
11 Şi Dumnezeu i-a spus: Pentru că ai cerut acest lucru şi nu ai cerut pentru tine viaţă lungă, nici nu ai cerut bogăţii pentru tine, nici nu ai cerut viaţa duşmanilor tăi, ci ai cerut pentru tine înţelegere pentru a discerne judecata,
And the Lord said to him, Because you have asked this thing of me, and have not asked for yourself long life, and have not asked wealth, nor have asked the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to hear judgment;
12 Iată, am făcut conform cuvintelor tale; iată, ţi-am dat o inimă înţeleaptă şi care înţelege, astfel încât nu a fost nimeni ca tine înaintea ta, nici nu se va ridica după tine vreunul ca tine.
behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you an understanding and wise heart: there has not been [any one] like you before you, and after you there shall not arise one like you.
13 Şi ţi-am dat de asemenea ceea ce nu ai cerut: deopotrivă bogăţii şi onoare, astfel încât nu va fi nimeni printre împăraţi ca tine în toate zilele tale.
And I have given you what you have not asked, wealth and glory, so that there has not been any one like you among kings.
14 Şi dacă vei umbla în căile mele, pentru a păzi statutele mele şi poruncile mele, precum David, tatăl tău, a umblat, atunci îţi voi lungi zilele.
And if you will walk in my way, to keep my commandments and my ordinances, as David your father walked, then will I multiply your days.
15 Şi Solomon s-a trezit; şi, iată, acesta a fost un vis. Şi a venit la Ierusalim şi a stat în picioare înaintea chivotului legământului DOMNULUI şi a oferit ofrande arse şi a oferit ofrande de pace şi a făcut un ospăţ tuturor servitorilor săi.
And Solomon awoke, and, behold, [it was] a dream: and he arose and came to Jerusalem, and stood before the altar that was in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord in Sion: and he offered whole burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace-offerings, and made a great banquet for himself and all his servants.
16 Atunci au venit acolo două femei curve, la împărat, şi au stat în picioare înaintea lui.
Then there appeared two harlots before the king, and they stood before him.
17 Şi o femeie a spus: O domnul meu, eu şi femeia aceasta locuiam într-o singură casă; şi eu am născut un copil cu ea în casă.
And the one woman said, Hear me, [my] lord; I and this woman lived in one house, and we were delivered in the house.
18 Şi s-a întâmplat, a treia zi după ce am născut, că a născut şi această femeie; şi noi eram împreună; nu era niciun străin cu noi în casă, în afară de noi amândouă în casă.
And it came to pass on the third day after I was delivered, this woman also was delivered: and we [were] together; and there was no one with us besides our two selves in the house.
19 Şi copilul acestei femei a murit noaptea, pentru că ea s-a culcat pe el.
And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20 Şi ea s-a sculat la miezul nopţii şi a luat pe fiul meu de lângă mine pe când roaba ta dormea şi l-a culcat la sânul ei şi l-a culcat pe copilul ei mort la sânul meu.
and she arose in the middle of the night, and took my son from my arms, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.
21 Şi după ce m-am sculat dimineaţa să alăptez pe copilul meu, iată, era mort; dar când m-am uitat atent la el dimineaţa, iată, nu era fiul meu, pe care îl născusem.
and I arose in the morning to suckle my son, and he was dead: and, behold, I considered him in the morning, and, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.
22 Şi cealaltă femeie a spus: Ba nu, ci fiul meu este cel viu şi cel mort este fiul tău. Şi aceasta a spus: Nu; ci fiul tău este cel mort şi cel viu este fiul meu. Astfel vorbeau ele înaintea împăratului.
And the other woman said, No, but the living [is] my son, and the dead [is] your son. So they spoke before the king.
23 Atunci a spus împăratul: Una spune: Acesta este fiul meu care trăieşte şi fiul tău este cel mort; şi cealaltă spune: Ba nu; ci fiul tău este cel mort şi fiul meu este cel viu.
and the king said to them, You say, This [is] my son, [even] the living [one], and this woman's son [is] the dead one: and you say, No, but the living [is] my son, and the dead [is] your son.
24 Şi împăratul a spus: Aduceţi-mi o sabie. Şi au adus o sabie înaintea împăratului.
And the king said, Fetch a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25 Şi împăratul a spus: Tăiaţi pe copilul cel viu în două şi daţi jumătate uneia şi jumătate celeilalte.
And the king said, Divide the live child, the suckling, in two; and give half of it to one, and half of it to the other.
26 Atunci a vorbit împăratului femeia al căreia era copilul cel viu, pentru că tânjea în adâncurile ei după fiul ei, şi a spus: O domnul meu, dă-i ei copilul cel viu şi nicidecum să nu îl ucizi. Dar cealaltă a spus: Să nu fie nici al meu nici al tău, tăiaţi-l.
And the woman whose the living child was, answered and said to the king, (for her bowels yearned over her son) and she said, I pray you, [my] lord, give her the child, and in nowise kill it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor hers; divide [it].
27 Atunci împăratul a răspuns şi a zis: Daţi-i celei dintâi copilul cel viu şi nicidecum să nu îl ucideţi, ea este mama lui.
Then the king answered and said, Give the child to her that said, 'Give it to her, and by no means kill it:' she [is] its mother.
28 Şi tot Israelul a auzit de judecata pe care împăratul o judecase; şi s-au temut de împărat, pentru că au văzut că înţelepciunea lui Dumnezeu era în el, pentru a face judecată.
and all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God [was] in him, to execute judgment.
