1 Şi Ahab i-a istorisit Izabelei tot ce făcuse Ilie şi cum ucisese cu sabia pe toţi profeţii.
And Ahab told Jezebel, all that Elijah had done, —and withal, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Atunci Izabela a trimis un mesager la Ilie, spunând: Astfel să îmi facă dumnezeii şi încă mai mult, dacă nu îţi fac viaţa ta ca viaţa unuia dintre ei, mâine pe timpul acesta.
Then sent Jezebel a messenger unto Elijah, saying, —So, let the gods do, and, so, let them add, if, by this time to-morrow, I make not thy life as the life of one of them.
3 Şi când el a văzut aceasta, s-a ridicat şi a mers pentru a-şi salva viaţa şi a venit la Beer-Şeba, care aparţine de Iuda, şi a lăsat pe servitorul său acolo.
And, when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, —and left his servant there.
4 Iar el a mers în pustiu cale de o zi şi a ajuns şi a şezut sub un ienupăr; şi a cerut ca sufletul lui să moară şi a spus: Este destul; acum, DOAMNE, ia-mi viaţa, pentru că nu sunt mai bun decât părinţii mei.
But, he himself, went into the wilderness a day’s journey, and came and sat down under a certain shrub, —and asked for his life, that he might die, and said—Enough, now, O Yahweh! take away my life, for, no better, am, I, than, my fathers.
5 Şi s-a culcat şi pe când dormea sub un ienupăr, iată, un înger l-a atins şi i-a spus: Scoală-te şi mănâncă.
And, as he lay, and slept, under a certain shrub, lo! a messenger, touching him, who said to him—Rise, eat.
6 Şi s-a uitat şi, iată, era o turtă coaptă pe cărbuni şi un urcior cu apă la capul său. Şi a mâncat şi a băut şi s-a culcat din nou.
So he looked about, and lo! at his head, a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water, —and he did eat and drink, and then went back and lay down.
7 Şi îngerul DOMNULUI a venit din nou, a doua oară, şi l-a atins şi a spus: Scoală-te şi mănâncă; deoarece călătoria ta este prea mare pentru tine.
And the messenger of Yahweh came again a second time, and touched him, and said—Rise, eat, —because, too much for thee, is the journey.
8 Şi s-a sculat şi a mâncat şi a băut şi a mers în puterea mâncării aceleia patruzeci de zile şi patruzeci de nopţi până la Horeb, muntele lui Dumnezeu.
So he arose, and did eat and drink, —and journeyed, in the strength of that eating, forty days and forty nights, as far as the mountain of God—Horeb.
9 Şi a intrat acolo într-o peşteră şi a rămas toată noaptea acolo; şi, iată, cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la el şi i-a spus: Ce faci tu aici, Ilie?
And he entered, there, into a cave, and lodged there, —and lo! the word of Yahweh [came] unto him, and said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 Şi el a spus: Am fost foarte gelos pentru DOMNUL Dumnezeul oştirilor; deoarece copiii lui Israel au părăsit legământul tău, au dărâmat altarele tale şi au ucis cu sabia pe profeţii tăi; şi eu, numai eu, am rămas; şi ei mă caută să îmi ia viaţa.
And he said—Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets, also have they slain with the sword, —and, I alone, am left, and they have sought my life, to take it.
11 Iar el a spus: Ieşi şi stai în picioare pe munte înaintea DOMNULUI. Şi, iată, DOMNUL a trecut şi un vânt mare şi puternic a despicat munţii şi a sfărâmat în bucăţi stâncile înaintea DOMNULUI, dar DOMNUL nu era în vânt; şi după vânt, un cutremur, dar DOMNUL nu era în cutremur.
And he said—Go forth to-morrow, and stand in the mountain, before Yahweh. And lo! Yahweh, passing by, and a great and strong wind—rending the mountains, and breaking in pieces the crags, before Yahweh, Not, in the wind, was, Yahweh, —And, after the wind, an, earthquake, Not, in the earthquake, was, Yahweh;
12 Şi după cutremur, un foc, dar DOMNUL nu era în foc; şi după foc o voce blândă, şoptită.
And, after the earthquake, a, fire, Not, in the fire, was, Yahweh, —And, after the fire, the voice of a gentle whisper.
13 Şi s-a întâmplat când Ilie a auzit aceasta, că şi-a înfăşurat faţa în mantaua sa şi a ieşit şi a stat în picioare la intrarea peşterii. Şi, iată, a ajuns la el o voce care a spus: Ce faci tu aici, Ilie?
And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went forth, and stood at the entrance of the cave, —and lo! unto him, a voice; and it said—What doest thou here, Elijah?

And he said—Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets also, have they slain with the sword, —and, I alone, am left, and they rove sought my life, to take it.
15 Iar DOMNUL i-a zis: Du-te, întoarce-te pe calea ta către pustiul Damascului; şi când ajungi, să ungi pe Hazael să fie împărat peste Siria;
And Yahweh said unto him, Go, return to thy way, towards the wilderness of Damascus, —and, when thou enterest, then shalt thou anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;
16 Şi pe Iehu, fiul lui Nimşi, să îl ungi să fie împărat peste Israel; şi pe Elisei, fiul lui Şafat, din Abel-Mehola, să îl ungi să fie profet în locul tău.
And, Jehu son of Minshi, shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel, —and, Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy stead:
17 Şi se va întâmpla, că pe cel care scapă de sabia lui Hazael îl va ucide Iehu; şi pe cel care scapă de sabia lui Iehu îl va ucide Elisei.
Then shall it come to pass, that—him that escapeth the sword of Hazael, shall, Jehu, slay, —and, him that escapeth the sword of Jehu, shall, Elisha, slay;
18 Totuşi, mi-am lăsat şapte mii în Israel, toţi genunchii ce nu s-au plecat înaintea lui Baal şi fiecare gură care nu l-a sărutat.
Yet will I leave remaining in Israel, seven thousand, —all knees which have not bowed to Baal, and all mouths which have not kissed to him.
19 Astfel, el s-a depărtat de acolo şi l-a găsit pe Elisei, fiul lui Şafat, care ara cu douăsprezece juguri de boi înaintea lui şi el cu al doisprezecelea; şi Ilie a trecut pe lângă el şi şi-a aruncat mantaua peste el.
So he departed from thence, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, as he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, he being with the twelfth, —so Elijah crossed over unto him, and cast his mantle towards him;
20 Şi el a lăsat boii şi a alergat după Ilie şi a spus: Lasă-mă, te rog, să sărut pe tatăl meu şi pe mama mea şi apoi te voi urma. Iar el i-a spus: Du-te, întoarce-te: fiindcă ce ţi-am făcut?
and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said—Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, that I may follow thee. And he said unto him, —Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?
21 Şi el s-a întors de la el şi a luat o pereche de boi şi i-a înjunghiat şi a fiert carnea lor cu uneltele boilor şi a dat poporului şi ei au mâncat. Apoi s-a ridicat şi a mers după Ilie şi i-a servit.
So he turned back from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and, with the implements of the oxen, boiled their flesh, and gave unto the people, and they did eat, —then he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.
