1 Şi s-a întâmplat, că după multe zile, cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la Ilie în anul al treilea, spunând: Du-te, arată-te lui Ahab; şi voi trimite ploaie pe pământ.
And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, 'Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'
2 Şi Ilie a mers să se arate lui Ahab. Şi era o foamete aspră în Samaria.
and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,
3 Şi Ahab l-a chemat pe Obadia, care era guvernatorul casei sale. (Şi Obadia se temea mult de DOMNUL;
and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who [is] over the house — and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,
4 Fiindcă s-a întâmplat, când Izabela a stârpit pe profeţii DOMNULUI, că Obadia a luat o sută de profeţi şi i-a ascuns câte cincizeci într-o peşteră şi i-a hrănit cu pâine şi apă.)
and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water —
5 Şi Ahab i-a spus lui Obadia: Du-te în ţară, la toate fântânile de apă şi la toate pâraiele; poate găsim iarbă pentru a salva caii şi catârii, ca să nu pierdem toate animalele.
and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, 'Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'
6 Astfel, şi-au împărţit ţara între ei pentru a trece prin ea; Ahab a mers pe o cale, singur, şi Obadia a mers pe altă cale, singur.
And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;
7 Şi pe când Obadia era pe cale, iată, Ilie l-a întâlnit; şi el l-a recunoscut şi a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi a spus: Tu eşti, domnul meu Ilie?
and Obadiah [is] in the way, and lo, Elijah — to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, 'Art thou he — my lord Elijah?'
8 Şi el i-a răspuns: Eu sunt; du-te, spune domnului tău: Iată, Ilie este aici.
And he saith to him, 'I [am]; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'
9 Şi el a spus: Cu ce am păcătuit eu, ca să dai pe servitorul tău în mâna lui Ahab, ca să mă ucidă?
And he saith, 'What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab — to put me to death?
10 Precum DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău trăieşte, nu este naţiune sau împărăţie, la care domnul meu nu a trimis să te caute; şi când ei spuneau: Nu este acolo; el lua un jurământ de la împărăţie sau naţiune, că nu te-au găsit.
Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;
11 Şi acum tu spui: Du-te, spune domnului tău: Iată, Ilie este aici.
and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;
12 Şi se va întâmpla, imediat ce eu voi pleca de la tine, că Duhul DOMNULUI te va duce nu ştiu unde; şi astfel, când vin şi îi spun lui Ahab şi el nu te va găsi, că mă va ucide; dar eu, servitorul tău, mă tem de DOMNUL din tinereţea mea.
and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.
13 Nu i s-a spus domnului meu ce am făcut când Izabela a ucis pe profeţii DOMNULUI, cum am ascuns o sută de bărbaţi dintre profeţii DOMNULUI, câte cincizeci într-o peşteră şi i-am hrănit cu pâine şi apă?
'Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?
14 Şi acum tu spui: Du-te, spune domnului tău: Iată, Ilie este aici; şi el mă va ucide.
and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah — and he hath slain me!'
15 Şi Ilie a spus: Precum DOMNUL oştirilor trăieşte, înaintea căruia stau în picioare, în această zi mă voi arăta negreşit lui.
And Elijah saith, 'Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'
16 Astfel Obadia a mers să îl întâlnească pe Ahab şi i-a spus; şi Ahab a mers să îl întâlnească pe Ilie.
And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth [it] to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,
17 Şi s-a întâmplat, când Ahab l-a văzut pe Ilie, că Ahab i-a spus: Eşti tu cel care tulbură pe Israel?
and it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, 'Art thou he — the troubler of Israel?'
18 Iar el a răspuns: Nu eu am tulburat pe Israel, ci tu şi casa tatălui tău, în aceea că aţi părăsit poruncile DOMNULUI şi tu ai urmat Baalilor.
And he saith, 'I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;
19 De aceea acum, trimite şi adună la mine tot Israelul pe muntele Carmel şi pe cei patru sute cincizeci de profeţi ai lui Baal şi pe cei patru sute de profeţi ai dumbrăvilor, care mănâncă la masa Izabelei.
and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred — eating at the table of Jezebel.'
20 Astfel, Ahab a trimis la toţi copiii lui Israel şi a adunat profeţii la muntele Carmel.
And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;
21 Şi Ilie a venit la tot poporul şi a spus: Până când veţi şchiopăta voi între două opinii? Dacă DOMNUL este Dumnezeu, urmaţi-l pe el; dar dacă este Baal, atunci urmaţi-l pe el. Şi poporul nu i-a răspuns un cuvânt.
and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, 'Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? — if Jehovah [is] God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.
22 Atunci a spus Ilie poporului: Eu, numai eu, am rămas profet al DOMNULUI; dar profeţii lui Baal sunt patru sute cincizeci de bărbaţi.
And Elijah saith unto the people, 'I — I have been left a prophet of Jehovah — by myself; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men;
23 Să ni se dea de aceea doi tauri; şi ei să îşi aleagă un taur pentru ei şi să îl taie bucăţi şi să îl pună pe lemne şi să nu pună foc dedesubt; şi eu voi pregăti celălalt taur şi îl voi pune pe lemne şi nu voi pune foc dedesubt;
and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I — I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and fire I do not place; —
24 Şi să chemaţi numele dumnezeilor voştri, iar eu voi chema numele DOMNULUI; şi Dumnezeul care răspunde prin foc, acela să fie Dumnezeu. Şi tot poporul a răspuns şi a zis: Bine spus.
and ye have called in the name of your god, and I — I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire — He [is] the God.' And all the people answer and say, 'Good [is] the word.'
25 Şi Ilie a spus profeţilor lui Baal: Alegeţi-vă un taur şi pregătiţi-l întâi, pentru că voi sunteţi mulţi; şi chemaţi numele dumnezeilor voştri, dar să nu puneţi foc dedesubt.
And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, 'Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye [are] the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'
26 Şi ei au luat taurul care le-a fost dat şi l-au pregătit; şi au chemat numele lui Baal de dimineaţă până la amiază, spunând: Baale, ascultă-ne. Dar nu a fost nicio voce, nici nu a răspuns nimeni. Şi săreau pe altarul care fusese făcut.
And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, 'O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.
27 Şi s-a întâmplat la amiază, că Ilie i-a batjocorit şi a spus: Strigaţi cu voce tare, pentru că el este dumnezeu; fie vorbeşte, sau urmăreşte ceva, sau este într-o călătorie, sau poate doarme şi trebuie trezit.
And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, 'Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'
28 Şi au strigat cu voce tare şi s-au tăiat după obiceiul lor cu săbii şi suliţe, până când sângele a ţâşnit pe ei.
And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood [is] on them;
29 Şi s-a întâmplat, când miezul zilei a trecut şi ei au profeţit până la timpul oferirii sacrificiului de seară, că nu a fost nici voce, nici cineva care să răspundă, nici cineva care să dea ascultare.
and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.
30 Şi Ilie a spus către tot poporul: Apropiaţi-vă de mine. Şi tot poporul s-a apropiat de el. Şi el a reparat altarul DOMNULUI care era dărâmat.
And Elijah saith to all the people, 'Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;
31 Şi Ilie a luat douăsprezece pietre, conform numărului triburilor fiilor lui Iacob, către care cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit, spunând: Israel va fi numele tău;
and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, 'Israel is thy name;'
32 Şi cu pietrele a zidit un altar în numele DOMNULUI; şi a făcut un şanţ în jurul altarului, atât de mare încât să conţină două măsuri de sămânţă.
and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.
33 Şi a pus lemnele în ordine şi a tăiat taurul în bucăţi şi l-a pus pe lemne şi a spus: Umpleţi patru vedre cu apă şi turnaţi-o pe ofranda arsă şi pe lemne.
And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth [it] on the wood, and saith, 'Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;
34 Şi a spus: Faceţi aceasta a doua oară. Şi au făcut aceasta a doua oară. Şi el a spus: Faceţi aceasta a treia oară. Şi au făcut aceasta a treia oară.
and he saith, 'Do [it] a second time;' and they do [it] a second time; and he saith, 'Do [it] a third time;' and they do [it] a third time;
35 Şi apa curgea împrejurul altarului şi el a umplut de asemenea şanţul cu apă.
and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.
36 Şi s-a întâmplat, pe timpul ofrandei sacrificiului de seară, că profetul Ilie s-a apropiat şi a spus: DOAMNE Dumnezeul lui Avraam, Isaac şi al lui Israel, să se cunoască în această zi că tu eşti Dumnezeu în Israel şi că eu sunt servitorul tău şi că am făcut toate aceste lucruri la cuvântul tău.
And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the [evening -]present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, 'Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou [art] God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;
37 Ascultă-mă, DOAMNE, ascultă-mă, ca acest popor să ştie că tu eşti DOMNUL Dumnezeu şi că tu le-ai întors inima înapoi.
answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou [art] Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'
38 Atunci focul DOMNULUI a căzut şi a mistuit ofranda arsă şi lemnele şi pietrele şi ţărâna şi a supt apa care era în şanţ.
And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it hath licked up.
39 Şi când tot poporul a văzut aceasta, au căzut cu feţele la pământ; şi au spus: DOMNUL, el este singurul Dumnezeu; DOMNUL, el este singurul Dumnezeu.
And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, 'Jehovah, He [is] the God, Jehovah, He [is] the God.'
40 Şi Ilie le-a spus: Luaţi pe profeţii lui Baal; să nu scape niciunul dintre ei. Şi i-au luat; şi Ilie i-a coborât la pârâul Chişon şi i-a ucis acolo.
And Elijah saith to them, 'Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.
41 Şi Ilie i-a spus lui Ahab: Urcă-te, mănâncă şi bea, pentru că este zgomot de ploaie mare.
And Elijah saith to Ahab, 'Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'
42 Astfel Ahab s-a urcat să mănânce şi să bea. Şi Ilie s-a urcat pe vârful Carmelului; şi s-a plecat la pământ şi şi-a pus faţa între genunchi,
And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,
43 Şi a spus servitorului său: Urcă acum, priveşte spre mare. Şi el s-a urcat şi a privit şi a spus: Nu este nimic. Iar el a spus: Du-te din nou de şapte ori.
and saith unto his young man, 'Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, 'There is nothing;' and he saith, 'Turn back,' seven times.
44 Şi s-a întâmplat a şaptea oară, că el a spus: Iată, se ridică un nor mic din mare, ca o mână de om. Iar el a spus: Urcă-te şi spune lui Ahab: Pregăteşte-ţi carul şi coboară, ca să nu te oprească ploaia.
And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, 'Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, 'Go up, say unto Ahab, 'Bind — and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'
45 Şi s-a întâmplat între timp, că cerul s-a înnegrit cu nori şi vânt şi a fost o ploaie mare. Şi Ahab s-a urcat în carul său şi a mers la Izreel.
And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black — thick clouds and wind — and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,
46 Şi mâna DOMNULUI a fost peste Ilie; şi el şi-a încins coapsele şi a alergat înaintea lui Ahab la intrarea în Izreel.
and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.
