1 Şi Roboam a mers la Sihem, pentru că tot Israelul venise la Sihem să îl facă împărat.

And Rehobo'am went to Shechem; for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

2 Şi s-a întâmplat, când Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, care era încă în Egipt, a auzit despre aceasta, (fiindcă el fugise din prezenţa împăratului Solomon şi Ieroboam locuia în Egipt),

And it came to pass, when Jerobo'am the son of Nebat, heard of it, (but he was yet in Egypt, whither he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jerobo'am dwelt in Egypt;

3 Că ei au trimis şi l-au chemat. Şi Ieroboam şi toată adunarea lui Israel au venit şi i-au vorbit lui Roboam, spunând:

And they had sent and called him; ) that Jerobo'am and all the congregation of Israel came, and spoke unto Rehobo'am, saying,

4 Tatăl tău ne-a făcut jugul apăsător; de aceea acum, fă servirea apăsătoare a tatălui tău şi jugul lui cel greu pe care l-a pus asupra noastră, mai uşor, şi noi îţi vom servi.

Thy father made our yoke hard; but do thou now make lighter the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5 Şi el le-a spus: Plecaţi pentru încă trei zile, apoi veniţi din nou la mine. Şi poporul a plecat.

And he said unto them, Go away yet for three days, and then return to me. And the people went away.

6 Şi împăratul Roboam s-a consultat cu bătrânii, care stătuseră în picioare înaintea lui Solomon, tatăl său, pe când el încă trăia şi a spus: Cum mă sfătuiţi voi să răspund acestui popor?

Then consulted king Rehobo'am with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I should give an answer to this people?

7 Şi ei i-au vorbit, spunând: Dacă vei fi un servitor al acestui popor în această zi şi le vei servi şi le vei răspunde şi vei vorbi cuvinte bune către ei, atunci ei vor fi servitorii tăi pentru totdeauna.

And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt this day be a servant unto this people, and wilt serve them, and be attentive to them, and speak to them good words; then will they be servants unto thee for all times.

8 Dar el a părăsit sfatul bătrânilor, pe care i l-au dat şi s-a sfătuit cu tinerii care crescuseră împreună cu el şi care stăteau în picioare înaintea lui;

But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, those who stood before him:

9 Şi le-a spus: Ce sfat ne daţi voi ca să putem răspunde acestui popor, care mi-a vorbit, zicând: Uşurează jugul pe care tatăl tău l-a pus asupra noastră?

And he said unto them, What do you counsel how we should give an answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make lighter the yoke which thy father did put upon us?

10 Şi tinerii care crescuseră cu el i-au vorbit, spunând: Astfel să vorbeşti acestui popor care ţi-a vorbit, spunând: Tatăl tău a îngreunat jugul nostru, dar tu uşurează-ni-l; astfel să le spui: Degetul meu cel mic va fi mai gros decât coapsele tatălui meu.

Then spoke unto him the young men that were grown up with him, saying, Thus must thou say unto this people that have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but do thou make it lighter unto us: thus must thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.

11 Şi acum, dacă tatăl meu v-a încărcat cu un jug greu, eu voi adăuga la jugul vostru: tatăl meu v-a pedepsit cu bice, dar eu vă voi pedepsi cu scorpioni.

And now, if my father hath burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will even add to your yoke; if my father hath chastised you with whips, then will I chastise you with scorpion-thorns.

12 Astfel Ieroboam şi tot poporul au venit la Roboam a treia zi, precum împăratul rânduise, spunând: Veniţi din nou la mine a treia zi.

When now Jerobo'am and all the people came to Rehobo'am on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Return to me on the third day.

13 Şi împăratul a răspuns poporului cu asprime şi a părăsit sfatul pe care i-l dăduseră bătrânii;

The king answered the people harshly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they had advised him;

14 Şi le-a vorbit după sfatul tinerilor, spunând: Tatăl meu a îngreunat jugul vostru, dar eu voi adăuga la jugul vostru; tatăl meu de asemenea v-a pedepsit cu bice, dar eu vă voi pedepsi cu scorpioni.

And he spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will even add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpion-thorns.

15 De aceea împăratul nu a dat ascultare poporului; deoarece cauza era de la DOMNUL, ca să îşi poată împlini spusa pe care DOMNUL o vorbise prin Ahiia şilonitul lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat.

Thus the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was so brought about from the Lord, in order that he might fulfill his word, which the Lord had spoken by means of Achiyah the Shilonite unto Jerobo'am the son of Nebat.

16 Astfel, când tot Israelul a văzut că împăratul nu le-a dat ascultare, poporul a răspuns împăratului, zicând: Ce parte avem noi în David? Nici nu avem o moştenire în fiul lui Isai; la corturile tale, Israele; acum vezi-ţi de casa ta, Davide. Astfel Israel a plecat la corturile sale.

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people gave the king an answer saying, What portion have we in David? nor have we an inheritance in the son of Jesse; to your tents, O Israel: now see to thy own house, David. So did Israel go away unto their tents.

17 Dar cât despre copiii lui Israel care locuiau în cetăţile lui Iuda, Roboam a domnit peste ei.

But as for the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah, over them did Rehobo'am reign.

18 Atunci împăratul Roboam a trimis pe Adoram, care era peste taxă; şi tot Israelul l-a împroşcat cu pietre, încât el a murit. De aceea împăratul Roboam s-a grăbit să se urce în carul său, pentru a fugi la Ierusalim.

Then sent king Rehobo'am Adoram, who was over the tribute; but all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehobo'am made speed with all his might to get up into his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 Astfel Israel s-a răzvrătit împotriva casei lui David până în această zi.

So did Israel rebel against the house of David unto this day.

20 Şi s-a întâmplat, când tot Israelul a auzit că Ieroboam s-a întors, că au trimis şi l-au chemat la adunare şi l-au făcut împărat peste tot Israelul; nu era nimeni care urma casa lui David, decât singur tribul lui Iuda.

And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jerobo'am was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, save the tribe of Judah alone.

21 Şi când Roboam a venit la Ierusalim, el a adunat toată casa lui Iuda, cu tribul lui Beniamin, o sută optzeci de mii de oameni aleşi, care erau războinici, pentru a lupta împotriva casei lui Israel, pentru a aduce împărăţia din nou la Roboam, fiul lui Solomon.

And when Rehobo'am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehobo'am the son of Solomon.

22 Dar cuvântul lui Dumnezeu a venit la Şemaia, omul lui Dumnezeu, spunând:

But the word of God came unto Shema'yah the man of God, saying,

23 Vorbeşte-i lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, împăratul lui Iuda, şi întregii case a lui Iuda şi a lui Beniamin şi rămăşiţei poporului, spunând:

Say unto Rehobo'am, the son of Solomon, the king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

24 Astfel spune DOMNUL: Să nu vă urcaţi, nici să nu luptaţi împotriva fraţilor voştri, copiii lui Israel; întoarceţi-vă fiecare om la casa lui, pentru că acest lucru este de la mine. Ei au dat ascultare cuvântului DOMNULUI şi s-au întors să plece, conform cuvântului DOMNULUI.

Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and returned to go home, according to the word of the Lord.

25 Atunci Ieroboam a construit Sihemul în muntele Efraim şi a locuit acolo; şi a ieşit de acolo şi a construit Penuelul.

And Jerobo'am built Shechem in the mountain of Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and he went out from there and built Penuel.

26 Şi Ieroboam a spus în inima sa: Acum împărăţia se va întoarce la casa lui David;

And Jerobo'am said in his heart, Now may the kingdom return to the house of David:

27 Dacă acest popor urcă pentru a aduce sacrificiu în casa DOMNULUI la Ierusalim, atunci inima acestui popor se va întoarce din nou la domnul lor, la Roboam, împăratul lui Iuda, şi pe mine mă vor ucide şi se vor întoarce la Roboam, împăratul lui Iuda.

If this people go up to prepare sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then may the heart of this people turn again unto their Lord, even unto Rehobo'am the king of Judah, and they might kill me, and return to Rehobo'am the king of Judah.

28 De aceea împăratul s-a sfătuit şi a făcut doi viţei de aur şi le-a spus: Este prea mult pentru voi să urcaţi la Ierusalim: iată, Israele, dumnezeii tăi care te-au scos din ţara Egiptului.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and he made two calves of gold, and said unto the people, You have been long enough going up to Jerusalem: behold, here are thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29 Şi a pus pe unul în Betel şi pe celălalt l-a pus în Dan.

And he placed the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.

30 Şi acest lucru a devenit un păcat; fiindcă poporul a mers să se închine înaintea unuia, până la Dan.

And this thing became a sin; and the people went before the one, as far as Dan.

31 Şi el a făcut o casă a înălţimilor şi a făcut preoţi din cei mai de jos oameni, care nu erau dintre fiii lui Levi.

And he made a house of the high-places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

32 Şi Ieroboam a rânduit o sărbătoare în luna a opta, în ziua a cincisprezecea a lunii, ca sărbătoarea care este în Iuda, şi a oferit pe altar. Astfel a făcut el în Betel, sacrificând viţeilor pe care îi făcuse; şi a aşezat în Betel pe preoţii înălţimilor pe care el le făcuse.

And Jerobo'am made a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar; so did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he stationed at Beth-el the priests of the high-places whom he had made.

33 Astfel el a oferit pe altarul pe care îl făcuse în Betel în ziua a cincisprezecea a lunii a opta, în luna pe care el o plănuise din inima lui; şi a rânduit o sărbătoare pentru copiii lui Israel; şi a oferit pe altar şi a ars tămâie.

So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had falsely devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast unto the children of Israel, and he went up to the altar, to burn incense.
