Neemias 13

1 Naquele dia eles leram no livro de Moisés, na audiência do povo; e foi encontrado escrito nele que um amonita e um moabita não deveriam entrar para sempre na assembléia de Deus,

In that day they read in the book of Moses in the ears of the people; and it was found written in it, that the Ammonites and Moabites should not enter into the congregation of God for ever;

2 porque eles não encontraram os filhos de Israel com pão e água, mas contrataram Balaão contra eles para amaldiçoá-los; no entanto, nosso Deus transformou a maldição em uma bênção.

because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them: but our God turned the curse into a blessing.

3 Aconteceu, quando ouviram a lei, que separaram toda a multidão miscigenada de Israel.

And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that they were separated, [even] every alien in Israel.

4 Agora antes disso, Eliasib o sacerdote, que foi nomeado sobre os quartos da casa de nosso Deus, sendo aliado de Tobias,

And before this time Eliasib the priest lived in the treasury of the house of our God, connected with Tobias;

5 tinha preparado para ele um grande quarto, onde antes de colocarem as ofertas de refeição, o incenso, os vasos e os dízimos do grão, o vinho novo e o óleo, que eram dados por ordem aos levitas, aos cantores e aos porteiros; e as ofertas de ondas para os sacerdotes.

and he made himself a great treasury, and there they were formerly in the habit of bestowing the offerings, and the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, and the wine, and the oil, the ordered portion of the Levites, and singers, and porters; and the first fruits of the priests.

6 Mas em tudo isso, eu não estava em Jerusalém; pois no trigésimo segundo ano de Artaxerxes, rei da Babilônia, fui ao rei; e depois de alguns dias pedi licença ao rei,

But in all this [time] I was not in Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Arthasastha king of Babylon I came to the king, and after a certain time I made my request of the king;

7 e vim a Jerusalém, e compreendi o mal que Eliasibe havia feito por Tobias, ao preparar-lhe um quarto nas cortes da casa de Deus.

and I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the mischief which Eliasib had done in the case of Tobias, in making for him a treasury in the court of the house of God.

8 Isso me entristeceu muito. Portanto, joguei todas as coisas da casa de Tobias fora da sala.

And it appeared very evil to me: so I cast forth all the furniture of the house of Tobias from the treasury.

9 Então eu ordenei, e eles limparam os quartos. Trouxe para eles os vasos da casa de Deus, com as ofertas de refeição e o incenso de novo.

And I gave orders, and they purified the treasuries: and I restored there the vessels of the house of God, [and] the offerings, and the frankincense.

10 Percebi que as porções dos Levitas não tinham sido dadas, de modo que os Levitas e os cantores, que faziam o trabalho, tinham cada um fugido para seu campo.

And I understood that the portion of the Levites had not been given: and they had fled every one to his field, the Levites and the singers doing the work.

11 Então eu contendi com os governantes, e disse: “Por que a casa de Deus está abandonada”? Eu os reuni, e os coloquei em seu lugar.

And I strove with the commanders, and said, Therefore has the house of God been abandoned? and I assembled them, and set them in their place.

12 Então todo Judá trouxe o dízimo do grão, o vinho novo e o óleo para os tesouros.

And all Juda brought a tithe of the wheat and the wine and the oil into the treasuries,

13 Fiz tesoureiros sobre os tesouros, Selemias, o sacerdote, e Zadoque, o escriba, e dos levitas, Pedaías: e ao lado deles estava Hanan, o filho de Zacur, o filho de Mattaniah; pois eles eram contados fiéis, e seu negócio era distribuir a seus irmãos.

to the charge of Selemia the priest, and Sadoc the scribe, and Phadaea of the Levites: and next to them [was] Anan the son of Zacchur, son of Matthanias; for they were accounted faithful: [it was] their office to distribute to their brethren.

14 Lembre-se de mim, meu Deus, a respeito disso, e não apague minhas boas ações que fiz pela casa de meu Deus, e por suas observâncias.

Remember me, O God, in this, and let not my kindness be forgotten which I have wrought in [regard to] the house of the Lord God.

15 Naqueles dias, vi alguns homens pisando lagares de vinho no sábado em Judá, trazendo molhos e carregando burros com vinho, uvas, figos e todo tipo de cargas que eles traziam para Jerusalém no dia do sábado; e testemunhei contra eles no dia em que vendiam comida.

In those days I saw in Juda [men] treading wine presses on the sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and loading asses with both wine, and grapes, and figs, and every [kind of] burden, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the sabbath-day:

16 Alguns homens de Tiro também viveram lá, que trouxeram peixes e todo tipo de mercadorias, e venderam no sábado para os filhos de Judá, e em Jerusalém.

and I testified in the day of their sale. Also their lived in it [men] bringing fish, and selling every [kind of] merchandise to the children of Juda and in Jerusalem on the sabbath.

17 Então eu contendi com os nobres de Judá, e lhes disse: “Que mal é isso que vocês fazem, e profanam o Sábado?

And I strove with the free children of Juda, and said to them, What [is] this evil thing which you do, and profane the sabbath-day?

18 Seus pais não fizeram isto e nosso Deus não trouxe todo este mal sobre nós e sobre esta cidade? No entanto, vocês trazem mais ira sobre Israel profanando o Sábado”.

Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought upon them and upon us and upon this city all these evils? and do you bring additional wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath?

19 Aconteceu que quando os portões de Jerusalém começaram a escurecer antes do sábado, eu ordenei que as portas fossem fechadas e ordenei que não fossem abertas até depois do sábado. Coloquei alguns de meus servos sobre os portões, para que nenhum fardo fosse trazido no dia de sábado.

And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and I set [some] of my servants at the gates, that none should bring [in] burdens on the sabbath-day.

20 So os comerciantes e vendedores de todo tipo de mercadorias acampados fora de Jerusalém, uma ou duas vezes.

So all [the merchants] lodged, and carried on traffic without Jerusalem once or twice.

21 Então eu testemunhei contra eles, e lhes disse: “Por que vocês ficam ao redor do muro? Se o fizerem novamente, eu lhes porei as mãos em cima”. A partir daquele momento, eles não vieram no sábado.

Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why do you lodge in front of the wall? if you do so again, I will stretch out my hand upon you. From that time they came not on the sabbath.

22 Eu ordenei aos Levitas que se purificassem e que viessem e guardassem os portões, para santificar o dia do sábado. Lembre-se de mim também para isto, meu Deus, e poupe-me de acordo com a grandeza de sua bondade amorosa.

and I told the Levites who were purifying themselves, and came and kept the gates, that they should sanctify the sabbath-day. Remember me, O God, for these things, and spare me according to the abundance of your mercy.

23 Naqueles dias eu também vi os judeus que tinham casado com mulheres de Ashdod, de Ammon e de Moab;

And in those days I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, [and] of Moab:

24 e seus filhos falavam pela metade no discurso de Ashdod, e não podiam falar na língua dos judeus, mas de acordo com a língua de cada povo.

and their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and did not know how to speak in the Jewish language.

25 Eu contendi com eles, amaldiçoei-os, golpeei alguns deles, arranquei-lhes os cabelos e os fiz jurar por Deus: “Não dareis vossas filhas a seus filhos, nem as tomareis por vossos filhos, nem por vós mesmos”.

And I strove with them and cursed them; and I struck some of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying, ]You shall not give your daughters to their sons, and you shall not take of their daughters to your sons.

26 Salomão, rei de Israel, não pecou por estas coisas? No entanto, entre muitas nações não havia rei como ele, e ele era amado por seu Deus, e Deus o fez rei sobre todo Israel. No entanto, mulheres estrangeiras causaram até mesmo a ele o pecado.

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? though there was no king like him among many nations, and he was beloved of God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women turned him aside.

27 Devemos então ouvi-lo para fazer todo este grande mal, para transgredir nosso Deus ao casar com mulheres estrangeiras?”.

So we will not listen to you to do all this evil, to break covenant with our God, —to marry strange wives.

28 Um dos filhos de Joiada, o filho de Eliashib, o sumo sacerdote, era genro de Sanballat, o horonita; por isso o afugentei de mim.

and Elisub the high priest, [one] of the sons of Joada, [being] son-in-law of Sanaballat the Uranite, I chased him away from me.

29 Lembre-se deles, meu Deus, porque contaminaram o sacerdócio e o convênio do sacerdócio e dos levitas.

Remember them, O God, for their [false] connection with the priesthood, and [the breaking] the covenant of the priesthood, and [for defiling] the Levites.

30 Thus Eu os limpei de todos os estrangeiros e os deveres designados para os sacerdotes e para os levitas, todos em seu trabalho;

So I purged them from all foreign connection, and established courses for the priests and the Levites, [every] man according to his work.

31 e para a oferta de madeira, em horários designados, e para as primícias. Lembre-se de mim, meu Deus, para sempre.

And the offering of the wood-bearers [was] at certain set times, and in the [times of the] first fruits. Remember me, O our God, for good.
