Neemias 1
1 As palavras de Neemias, o filho de Hacaliah. Agora no mês de Chislev, no vigésimo ano, quando eu estava em Susa, o palácio,
The words of Nehemiah, the son of Hacaliah. And it happened that, in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, I was in the capital city of Susa.
2 Hanani, um dos meus irmãos, veio, ele e alguns homens de Judá; e eu lhes perguntei sobre os judeus que haviam escapado, que ficaram do cativeiro, e sobre Jerusalém.
And Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived, he and some men of Judah. And I questioned them about the Jews who had remained and were left behind from the captivity, and about Jerusalem.
3 Eles me disseram: “Os remanescentes que ficaram do cativeiro lá na província estão em grande aflição e reprovação. O muro de Jerusalém também está derrubado, e suas portas estão queimadas com fogo”.
And they said to me: “Those who have remained and have been left behind from the captivity, there in the province, are in great affliction and in disgrace. And the wall of Jerusalem has been broken apart, and its gates have been burned with fire.”
4 Quando ouvi estas palavras, sentei-me e chorei, e chorei vários dias; e jejuei e orei diante do Deus do céu,
And when I had heard this manner of words, I sat down, and I wept and mourned for many days. I fasted and prayed before the face of the God of heaven.
5 e disse: “Peço-te, Javé, o Deus do céu, o grande e espantoso Deus que mantém aliança e bondade amorosa com aqueles que o amam e guardam seus mandamentos,
And I said: “I beg you, O Lord, God of heaven, strong, great, and terrible, who keeps covenant and mercy with those who love you and who keep your commandments:
6 deixa agora que teus ouvidos estejam atentos e teus olhos abertos, para que ouças a oração de teu servo que eu rezo diante de ti a esta hora, dia e noite, pelos filhos de Israel teus servos, enquanto confesso os pecados dos filhos de Israel que pecamos contra ti. Sim, eu e a casa de meu pai pecamos.
may your ears be attentive, and may your eyes be open, so that you may hear the prayer of your servant, which I am praying before you today, night and day, for the sons of Israel, your servants. And I am confessing the sins of the sons of Israel, which they have sinned against you. We have sinned, I and my father’s house.
7 Temos tratado de forma muito corrupta contra vocês, e não guardamos os mandamentos, nem os estatutos, nem as ordenanças, que vocês ordenaram a seu servo Moisés.
We have been seduced by vanity. And we have not kept your commandments and ceremonies and judgments, which you have instructed to your servant Moses.
8 “Lembra-te, peço-te, da palavra que ordenaste a teu servo Moisés, dizendo: 'Se transgredires, eu te espalharei entre os povos;
Remember the word which you commanded to your servant Moses, saying: ‘When you will have transgressed, I will disperse you among the nations.
9 mas se voltares para mim, e guardares meus mandamentos e os cumprires, embora teus párias estivessem na parte mais extrema dos céus, ainda assim os recolherei de lá, e os levarei ao lugar que escolhi, para fazer habitar ali meu nome'.
But if you will return to me, and keep my precepts, and do them, even if you will have been led away to the furthest reaches of the heavens, I will gather you from there, and I will lead you back to the place that I have chosen so that my name would dwell there.’
10 “Agora estes são seus servos e seu povo, a quem você resgatou por seu grande poder e por sua mão forte.
And these same are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great strength and by your powerful hand.
11 Senhor, suplico-vos, que estejais atento agora à oração de vosso servo, e à oração de vossos servos que se deleitam em temer vosso nome; e por favor, fazei prosperar vosso servo hoje, e concedei-lhe misericórdia aos olhos deste homem”. Agora eu era portador de copos para o rei.
I beg you, O Lord, may your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who are willing to fear your name. And so, guide your servant today, and grant to him mercy before this man.” For I was the cupbearer of the king.
