Juízes 8
1 Os homens de Efraim lhe disseram: “Por que nos tratou assim, que não nos chamou quando foi lutar com Midian? Eles o repreenderam severamente.
And the men of Ephraim say to him, “What [is] this thing you have done to us—not to call for us when you went to fight with Midian?” And they strive with him severely;
2 Ele disse a eles: “O que eu fiz agora em comparação com vocês? A colheita das uvas de Ephraim não é melhor que a vindima de Abiezer?
and he says to them, “What have I now done like you? Are the gleanings of Ephraim not better than the harvest of Abi-Ezer?
3 Deus entregou em suas mãos os príncipes de Midian, Oreb e Zeeb! O que eu pude fazer em comparação com você”? Então a raiva deles foi reduzida em relação a ele quando ele havia dito isso.
God has given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, into your hand; and what have I been able to do like you?” Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.
4 Gideon veio ao Jordão e passou, ele e os trezentos homens que estavam com ele, desmaiando, mas perseguindo.
And Gideon comes to the Jordan, passing over, he and the three hundred men who [are] with him—wearied, yet pursuing—
5 Ele disse aos homens de Succoth: “Por favor, dêem pães ao povo que me segue; pois eles estão fracos, e eu estou perseguindo Zebah e Zalmunna, os reis de Midian”.
and he says to the men of Succoth, “Please give cakes of bread to the people who [are] at my feet, for they [are] wearied, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.”
6 Os príncipes de Succoth disseram: “As mãos de Zebah e Zalmunna estão agora em suas mãos, que devemos dar pão ao seu exército?
And the heads of Succoth say, “Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we give bread to your host?”
7 Gideon disse: “Portanto, quando Yahweh tiver entregue Zebah e Zalmunna em minhas mãos, então eu rasgarei sua carne com os espinhos do deserto e com as sarças”.
And Gideon says, “Therefore—in YHWH’s giving Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand—I have threshed your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the threshing instruments.”
8 Ele foi até Penuel, e falou com eles da mesma maneira; e os homens de Penuel lhe responderam como os homens de Succoth haviam respondido.
And he goes up there [to] Penuel, and speaks to them thus; and the men of Penuel answer him as the men of Succoth answered.
9 Ele também falou aos homens de Penuel, dizendo: “Quando eu voltar em paz, eu derrubarei esta torre”.
And he also speaks to the men of Penuel, saying, “In my turning back in peace, I break down this tower.”
10 Now Zebah e Zalmunna estavam em Karkor, e seus exércitos com eles, cerca de quinze mil homens, todos os que ficaram de todo o exército das crianças do oriente; pois caíram cento e vinte mil homens que desembainharam a espada.
And Zebah and Zalmunna [are] in Karkor, and their camps with them, about fifteen thousand, all who are left of all the camp of the sons of the east; and those falling [are] one hundred and twenty thousand men, drawing sword.
11 Gideon subiu pelo caminho daqueles que viviam em barracas no leste de Nobah e Jogbehah, e atingiu o exército; pois o exército se sentia seguro.
And Gideon goes up the way of those who dwell in tents, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and strikes the camp, and the camp was confident;
12 Zebah e Zalmunna fugiram e ele os perseguiu. Ele tomou os dois reis de Midian, Zebah e Zalmunna, e confundiu todo o exército.
and Zebab and Zalmunna flee, and he pursues after them, and captures the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and he has caused all the camp to tremble.
13 Gideão, o filho de Joás, voltou da batalha desde a ascensão de Heres.
And Gideon son of Joash turns back from the battle, at the going up of the sun,
14 Ele pegou um jovem dos homens de Succoth e o interrogou; e descreveu para ele os príncipes de Succoth, e seus anciãos, setenta e sete homens.
and captures a young man of the men of Succoth, and asks him, and he describes to him the heads of Succoth, and its elderly—seventy-seven men.
15 Ele veio aos homens de Succoth, e disse: “Veja Zebah e Zalmunna, a respeito de quem você me escarneceu, dizendo: 'As mãos de Zebah e Zalmunna estão agora em suas mãos, para que demos pão a seus homens que estão cansados?
And he comes to the men of Succoth and says, “Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom you reproached me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand that we give bread to your men who [are] wearied?”
16 Ele tomou os anciãos da cidade, os espinhos do deserto e as sarças, e com eles ensinou aos homens de Succoth.
And he takes the elderly of the city, and [the] thorns of the wilderness, and the threshing instruments, and teaches the men of Succoth by them,
17 Ele quebrou a torre de Penuel, e matou os homens da cidade.
and he has broken down the Tower of Penuel, and slays the men of the city.
18 Então ele disse a Zebah e Zalmunna: “Que tipo de homens eram aqueles que você matou no Tabor? Eles responderam: “Eles eram como você. Todos eles se pareciam com os filhos de um rei”.
And he says to Zebah and to Zalmunna, “What manner of men [were they] whom you slew in Tabor?” And they say, “As you—so they, [each] one as the form of the king’s sons.”
19 Ele disse: “Eles eram meus irmãos, os filhos de minha mãe. Como Yahweh vive, se você os tivesse salvo vivos, eu não os mataria”.
And he says, “They [were] my brothers—sons of my mother; YHWH lives, if you had kept them alive—I would not kill you.”
20 Ele disse a Jether, seu primogênito: “Levante-se e mate-os!” Mas o jovem não desembainhou sua espada; pois ele tinha medo, pois ainda era um jovem.
And he says to his firstborn Jether, “Rise, slay them”; and the young man has not drawn his sword, for he has been afraid, for he [is] yet a youth.
21 Então Zebah e Zalmunna disseram: “Vocês se levantam e caem sobre nós; pois como o homem é, assim é a sua força”. Gideon levantou-se, e matou Zebah e Zalmunna, e tomou as luas crescentes que estavam sobre o pescoço de seus camelos.
And Zebah and Zalmunna say, “Rise and fall on us; for as the man—his might”; and Gideon rises, and slays Zebah and Zalmunna, and takes the crescents which [are] on the necks of their camels.
22 Então os homens de Israel disseram a Gideon: “Governe sobre nós, tanto você, seu filho, como o filho de seu filho também; pois você nos salvou da mão de Midian”.
And the men of Israel say to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, and your son, and your son’s son, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian.”
23 Gideon disse-lhes: “Eu não governarei sobre vocês, nem meu filho governará sobre vocês”. Yahweh governará sobre você”.
And Gideon says to them, “I do not rule over you, nor does my son rule over you; YHWH rules over you.”
24 Gideon disse-lhes: “Tenho um pedido: que cada um de vocês me dê os brincos de seu saque”. (Pois eles tinham brincos de ouro, porque eram ismaelitas).
And Gideon says to them, “Let me ask a petition of you, and each give to me the ring of his prey, for they have rings of gold, for they [are] Ishmaelites.”
25 Responderam: “Nós lhes daremos de bom grado”. Espalharam uma peça de vestuário e cada homem jogou os brincos de seu saque dentro dela.
And they say, “We certainly give”; and they spread out the garment, and each casts the ring of his prey there;
26 O peso dos brincos de ouro que ele pediu era de mil e setecentos siclos de ouro, além das luas crescentes, dos pingentes e das roupas roxas que estavam sobre os reis de Midian, e além das correntes que estavam sobre o pescoço de seus camelos.
and the weight of the rings of gold which he asked for is one thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold, apart from the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple garments, which [are] on the kings of Midian, and apart from the chains which [are] on the necks of their camels,
27 Gideon fez dele um éfode, e o colocou em Ophrah, sua cidade. Então todo Israel brincou de prostituta com ele lá; e ele se tornou um laço para Gideon e para sua casa.
and Gideon makes it into an ephod, and sets it up in his city, in Ophrah, and all Israel go whoring after it there, and it is for a snare to Gideon and to his house.
28 Assim, Midian foi subjugado diante dos filhos de Israel, e eles não levantaram mais a cabeça. A terra teve um descanso de quarenta anos nos dias de Gideon.
And Midian is humbled before the sons of Israel, and have not added to lift up their head; and the land rests [for] forty years in the days of Gideon.
29 Jerubbaal, filho de Joash, foi morar em sua própria casa.
And Jerubba‘al son of Joash goes and dwells in his own house,
30 Gideon tinha setenta filhos concebidos a partir de seu corpo, pois ele tinha muitas esposas.
and there have been seventy sons of Gideon, coming out of his loin, for he had many wives;
31 Sua concubina que estava em Shechem também lhe deu um filho, e ele o chamou de Abimelech.
and his concubine, who [is] in Shechem, has borne to him—even she—a son, and he appoints his name Abimelech.
32 Gideon, filho de Joás, morreu numa boa velhice, e foi enterrado no túmulo de Joás, seu pai, em Ophrah dos Abiezrites.
And Gideon son of Joash dies, in a good old age, and is buried in the burying-place of his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abi-Ezrite.
33 Assim que Gideon morreu, as crianças de Israel voltaram a se fazer de prostituta seguindo os Baals, e fizeram de Baal Berith seu deus.
And it comes to pass, when Gideon [is] dead, that the sons of Israel turn back and go whoring after the Ba‘alim, and set Ba‘al-Berith over them for a god;
34 Os filhos de Israel não se lembravam de Javé seu Deus, que os havia libertado da mão de todos os seus inimigos de todos os lados;
and the sons of Israel have not remembered their God YHWH, who is delivering them out of the hand of all their surrounding enemies,
35 também não demonstraram bondade para com a casa de Jerubbaal, ou seja, Gideão, de acordo com toda a bondade que ele havia mostrado para com Israel.
neither have they done kindness with the house of Jerubba‘al—Gideon—according to all the good which he did with Israel.
