Juízes 19
1 Naqueles dias, quando não havia rei em Israel, havia um certo levita vivendo no lado mais distante do país montanhoso de Efraim, que tomou para si uma concubina de Belém Judá.
At that time Israel didn't have a king. A Levite who was living in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim married a concubine-wife from Bethlehem in Judah.
2 Sua concubina jogou a prostituta contra ele e se afastou dele para a casa de seu pai em Belém de Judá, e ficou lá por quatro meses.
But she was unfaithful to him and left him to return to her father's house in Bethlehem. She was there for four months.
3 O marido dela se levantou e foi atrás dela para falar gentilmente com ela, para trazê-la de volta, tendo seu criado com ele e um par de burros. Ela o trouxe para a casa de seu pai; e quando o pai da jovem o viu, ele se regozijou em conhecê-lo.
Then her husband went after her, to talk kindly with her and bring her back home. With him went his servant and two donkeys. She took him to her father's house and when her father met him, he gladly welcomed him.
4 Seu sogro, o pai da jovem, o manteve lá; e ele ficou com ele por três dias. Assim eles comeram e beberam, e ficaram lá.
Her father pressed him to stay with them, so he remained for three days, eating, drinking, and sleeping there.
5 No quarto dia, eles se levantaram cedo pela manhã, e ele se levantou para partir. O pai da jovem disse a seu genro: “Fortalece teu coração com um pedaço de pão, e depois seguirás teu caminho”.
On the fourth day he and his concubine got up early in the morning and prepared to leave, but her father said to his son-in-law, “You'll feel better if you have something to eat before you go.”
6 Então, eles se sentaram, comeram e beberam, os dois juntos. Então o pai da jovem disse ao homem: “Por favor, tenha o prazer de ficar a noite toda e deixe que seu coração seja alegre”.
So the two men sat down to eat and drink together. The father said to his son-in law, “Please agree to spend another night here, and you can enjoy yourself!”
7 O homem se levantou para partir; mas seu sogro o incitou, e ele ficou lá novamente.
The man got up to leave, but his father-in-law pressed him to stay, so in the end he spent the night there.
8 Ele levantou-se de manhã cedo no quinto dia para partir; e o pai da jovem disse: “Por favor, fortaleça seu coração e fique até que o dia decline;” e ambos comeram.
On the fifth day he got up early in the morning to leave. But his father-in-law said, “Eat before you go, then leave later this afternoon.” So they had a meal together.
9 Quando o homem se levantou para partir, ele e sua concubina, e seu criado, seu sogro, o pai da jovem, lhe disseram: “Eis que agora o dia se aproxima da noite, por favor, fique a noite toda”. Eis que o dia está terminando”. Fique aqui, para que seu coração seja alegre; e amanhã siga seu caminho mais cedo, para que você possa ir para casa”.
When he got up to leave with his concubine and his servant, his father-in-law told him, “Look it's late—it's already evening. Spend the night here. The day's almost over. Stay here the night and enjoy yourself, then tomorrow you can get up early and be on your way home.”
10 Mas o homem não quis ficar naquela noite, mas levantou-se e foi para perto de Jebus (também chamada Jerusalém). Com ele estavam um casal de burros de sela. Sua concubina também estava com ele.
But the man didn't want to spend another night, so he got up and left. He headed towards the town of Jebus (now called Jerusalem) with his two saddled donkeys and his concubine.
11 Quando eles estavam por Jebus, o dia foi muito passado; e o criado disse a seu mestre: “Por favor, venha e vamos entrar nesta cidade dos jebusitas, e ficar nela”.
As they approached Jebus the day was over, the servant said to his master, “Sir, why don't we stop here at this Jebusite town for the night?”
12 Seu mestre lhe disse: “Não entraremos na cidade de um estrangeiro que não é dos filhos de Israel; mas passaremos para Gibeá”.
But his master replied, “No, we're not going to stop in this town where only foreigners live and no Israelites. We'll continue on to Gibeah.”
13 Ele disse a seu servo: “Venha e vamos nos aproximar de um desses lugares; e nos hospedaremos em Gibeá, ou em Ramá”.
Then he told his servant, “Come on, let's try and get to Gibeah or Ramah and spend the night somewhere there.”
14 Então eles passaram e seguiram seu caminho; e o sol se pôs sobre eles perto de Gibeah, que pertence a Benjamin.
So they carried on and reached Gibeah in the territory of Benjamin just as the sun was setting.
15 Eles foram até lá, para entrar para ficar em Gibeah. Ele entrou e sentou-se na rua da cidade; pois não havia ninguém que os levasse para sua casa para ficar.
They stopped in Gibeah to spend the night, and sat down in the town's main square, but no one invited them to come and stay.
16 Eis que um homem velho veio de seu trabalho fora do campo à noite. Agora o homem era da região montanhosa de Efraim, e vivia em Gibeah; mas os homens do lugar eram benjamitas.
But later that evening an old man came by, returning from working in the fields. He was from the hill country of Ephraim, but was now living in Gibeah in the territory of Benjamin.
17 Ele levantou os olhos e viu o viajante na rua da cidade; e o velho disse: “Onde você está indo? De onde você veio?”
He looked over and noticed the traveler in the square and asked, “Where are you going and where have you come from?”
18 Ele lhe disse: “Estamos passando de Belém Judá para o lado mais distante da região montanhosa de Efraim. Eu sou de lá, e fui para Belém Judá”. Estou indo para a casa de Yahweh; e não há ninguém que me tenha levado para sua casa”.
“We've come from Bethlehem in Judah and we're going to a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim,” the man replied. “I'm from there and I went to Bethlehem, and now I'm going to the Lord's Temple. No one here has invited me to stay.
19 Mas há palha e comida para nossos burros; e há pão e vinho também para mim, e para seu servo, e para o jovem que está com seus servos. Não há falta de nada”.
There's straw and food for our donkeys, and we your servants have bread and wine—enough for me, the woman, and my servant. We have all we need.”
20 O velho disse: “A paz seja com você! Deixe-me suprir todas as suas necessidades, mas não durma na rua”.
“You are welcome to stay with me,” the man replied. “I can let you have everything you need. Just don't spend the night here in the square.”
21 Então ele o trouxe para sua casa, e deu forragem para os burros. Depois eles lavaram os pés, comeram e beberam.
He took him home and fed the donkeys. The travelers washed their feet and then started to eat and drink.
22 Enquanto faziam seus corações alegres, eis que os homens da cidade, certos homens maus, cercaram a casa, batendo à porta; e falaram com o dono da casa, o velho, dizendo: “Tragam para fora o homem que entrou em sua casa, para que possamos ter sexo com ele”!
While they were enjoying themselves, some depraved men from the town came and surrounded the house, and banged on the door, shouting to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to stay in your house so we can have sex with him.”
23 O homem, o dono da casa, foi até eles e lhes disse: “Não, meus irmãos, por favor, não ajam de modo tão perverso; já que este homem entrou em minha casa, não façam esta loucura”.
The man who owned the house went outside and told them, “My brothers, don't act in such an evil way! This man is a guest in my house. Don't do something so disgusting!
24 Veja, aqui está minha filha virgem e sua concubina. Vou trazê-los para fora agora. Humilhe-os e faça com eles o que lhe parece bom; mas a este homem não faça tal loucura”.
Look, here's my virgin daughter and the man's concubine. Let me bring them out and you can rape them and do whatever you want to them. But don't do something so disgusting to this man.”
25 Mas os homens não lhe deram ouvidos; então o homem pegou sua concubina e a trouxe até eles; e fizeram sexo com ela, e abusaram dela a noite toda até de manhã. Quando o dia começou a amanhecer, eles a soltaram.
But the men refused to listen, so the man grabbed his concubine and threw her outside to them. They raped her and abused her all night until the morning, and only discarded her at dawn.
26 Então a mulher chegou ao amanhecer do dia, e caiu na porta da casa do homem onde seu senhor estava, até que amanhecesse.
As night turned into day she returned to the house where her master was staying and collapsed in front of the door as it got light.
27 Seu senhor levantou-se pela manhã e abriu as portas da casa, e saiu para seguir seu caminho; e eis que a mulher sua concubina havia caído à porta da casa, com as mãos na soleira.
Her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house. He went out to continue his journey and there was his concubine, stretched out in the doorway of the house, with her hands holding onto the doorstep.
28 Ele lhe disse: “Levante-se, e vamos embora”, mas ninguém respondeu. Então ele a levou para cima do burro; e o homem se levantou, e foi para seu lugar.
“Get up, let's go,” he told her, but there was no answer. Then the man lifted her onto his donkey and went home.
29 Quando entrou em sua casa, pegou uma faca e cortou sua concubina, e a dividiu, membro por membro, em doze pedaços, e a enviou por todas as fronteiras de Israel.
When he got home he took a knife, and holding onto his concubine, cut her up, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent these pieces of her to every part of Israel.
30 Foi assim, que todos que a viram disseram: “Tal ato não foi feito ou visto desde o dia em que os filhos de Israel saíram da terra do Egito até os dias de hoje! Considere-o, aconselhe-se e fale”.
Everyone who saw her said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen before, from the time the Israelites left Egypt up until now. You should think about what happened to her! Decide what to do! Speak up!”
