João 5
1 Depois destas coisas, houve uma festa dos judeus, e Jesus subiu a Jerusalém.
Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem when the Jews were having [another] celebration.
2 Agora em Jerusalém, junto ao portão das ovelhas, há uma piscina, que é chamada em hebraico, “Betesda”, tendo cinco alpendres.
At one of the gates [into the city] called the Sheep Gate, there is a pool. In our language we call it Bethzatha. [Around the pool] were five open areas with roofs over them.
3 Nestes havia uma grande multidão de doentes, cegos, coxos ou paralisados, esperando o movimento da água;
Many people were lying there. They were people who were blind, lame, or paralyzed.
4 for um anjo desceu em certos momentos para dentro da piscina e agitou a água. Quem pisou primeiro após a agitação da água foi curado de qualquer doença que tivesse.
5 Um certo homem estava lá, que estava doente há trinta e oito anos.
One of those who was there had been paralyzed for 38 years.
6 Quando Jesus o viu ali deitado, e soube que estava doente há muito tempo, perguntou-lhe: “Você quer ficar bem?
Jesus saw him lying there and found out that the man had been like that for a long time. He said to the man, “Do you want to become well?”
7 O doente respondeu-lhe: “Senhor, não tenho ninguém para me colocar na piscina quando a água está agitada, mas enquanto eu estou chegando, mais um degrau para baixo diante de mim”.
The paralyzed man replied to him, “[Yes], sir, [I want to get well, but] there is no one to help me get down into the pool when the water is stirred {stirs}. While I am trying to get [to the pool], someone else always gets there before me.”
8 Jesus lhe disse: “Levante-se, pegue sua esteira e caminhe”.
Jesus said to him, “Get up! Then pick up your mat and walk!”
9 Imediatamente, o homem foi bem feito, pegou seu tapete e caminhou. Agora aquele dia era um sábado.
The man immediately was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking! The day on which this happened was a Jewish day of rest.
10 Então os judeus disseram a ele que estava curado: “É o sábado”. Não é lícito para você carregar a esteira”.
So the Jewish [leaders] said to the man who had been healed, “Today is (the Sabbath/our rest day), and [in our Jewish] laws [it is written that people should not work on our] ([Sabbath/rest day]), so you should not be carrying your mat!”
11 Ele lhes respondeu: “Aquele que me fez bem me disse: 'Pegue seu tapete e caminhe'”.
The man replied to them, “The man who healed me, he himself said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk!’”
12 Então lhe perguntaram: “Quem é o homem que lhe disse: 'Pegue seu tapete e caminhe'”?
They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick it up and walk!’?”
13 Mas aquele que foi curado não sabia quem era, pois Jesus havia se retirado, uma multidão estava no lugar.
But since Jesus had disappeared in the crowd [without telling the man his name], the man did not know who it was [who had healed him].
14 Depois, Jesus o encontrou no templo e lhe disse: “Eis que estás bem. Não pequeis mais, para que nada pior vos aconteça”.
Later, Jesus found the man in the Temple [courtyard]. He [told the man his name, and] said to him, “Listen! You are healed! So stop sinning! If you do not stop sinning, something will happen to you that will be worse [than the illness you had before]!”
15 O homem foi embora e disse aos judeus que era Jesus quem o tinha feito bem.
The man went away and told the Jewish [leaders] [SYN] that it was Jesus who had healed him.
16 Por esta causa, os judeus perseguiram Jesus e procuraram matá-lo, porque ele fez estas coisas no sábado.
So the Jewish [leaders] [SYN] started to harass Jesus, because Jesus was doing these things (on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day).
17 Mas Jesus lhes respondeu: “Meu Pai ainda está trabalhando, então eu também estou trabalhando”.
Then Jesus replied to them, “My Father has always been working every day, [including] ([the Sabbath/the day of rest]), up until now. I am doing the same thing!”
18 Por esta causa, portanto, os judeus procuraram ainda mais matá-lo, pois ele não só quebrou o sábado, mas também chamou Deus de seu próprio Pai, fazendo-se igual a Deus.
The Jewish leaders [SYN] considered that he was disobeying their rules about (the Sabbath/the day of rest), and that by saying that God was his Father, he was making himself equal with God. And they considered that both these things were grounds for killing him. So they tried even harder to find a way to kill him.
19 Jesus, portanto, lhes respondeu: “Certamente, eu lhes digo, o Filho não pode fazer nada de si mesmo, mas o que ele vê o Pai fazer”. Por tudo o que Ele faz, o Filho também faz o mesmo”.
Jesus replied to them by saying, “You need to know this: I can do nothing by my own [authority]. I do only the [kind of] things that I see [my] Father doing. Whatever kinds of things my Father is doing, those are the things I am doing.
20 Pois o Pai tem afeição pelo Filho, e lhe mostra todas as coisas que ele mesmo faz. Ele lhe mostrará obras maiores do que estas, para que você se maravilhe.
[My] Father loves me, and he shows me everything that he is doing. He will show me [the miracles] that [he wants me to do] that will be greater than the ones that [you have already seen me do], so that you may be amazed.
21 Pois, assim como o Pai ressuscita os mortos e lhes dá vida, assim também o Filho dá vida a quem deseja.
[For example], just like [my] Father causes people who have died to become alive again, I will give [eternal] life to everyone that I want to.
22 Pois o Pai não julga ninguém, mas deu todo o julgamento ao Filho,
Furthermore, [my] Father is not the one who judges people [concerning their sins]. Instead, he has given to me the work of judging people,
23 para que todos possam honrar o Filho, assim como honram o Pai. Aquele que não honra o Filho não honra o Pai que o enviou.
in order that all people may honor me, just like they honor [my] Father. [My] Father [considers that] anyone who does not honor me is not honoring [him], the one who sent me.
24 “Certamente vos digo, aquele que ouve minha palavra e acredita naquele que me enviou tem a vida eterna, e não entra em juízo, mas passou da morte para a vida”. (aiōnios g166)
Listen to this carefully: Those who hear my message and believe that [God] is the one who sent me have eternal life. [God will] not (condemn them/say that he will punish them). They are no longer separated from God. Instead, they have [eternal] life. (aiōnios g166)
25 Certamente eu lhes digo que chega a hora, e agora é, quando os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus; e aqueles que ouvirem viverão.
Listen to this carefully: There will be a time when those who are (spiritually dead/separated from God) will hear the voice of me, (the Son of God/the man who is also God). In fact, it is that time already. Those who hear [and pay attention to my message] will have [eternal] life.
26 Pois como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, assim também deu ao Filho para ter vida em si mesmo.
[My] Father has [power to] make things live. Similarly, he has given me the [power to enable] people to live [eternally].
27 Ele também lhe deu autoridade para executar o julgamento, porque ele é um filho do homem.
Because I am the one who came from heaven, he has given me the authority to judge people [concerning their sins].
28 Não se maravilhe com isso, pois chega a hora em que todos os que estão nos túmulos ouvirão sua voz
Do not be surprised about that, because there will be a time when all people who have died will hear my voice,
29 e sairão; os que fizeram o bem, para a ressurreição da vida; e os que fizeram o mal, para a ressurreição do juízo.
and they will become alive again. Those who have lived good [lives] will rise [from their graves] and live forever. But those who have lived evil lives will rise, and I will (condemn them/declare that I will punish them [for their sins]).
30 Não posso fazer nada de mim mesmo. Como ouço, eu julgo; e meu julgamento é justo, porque não busco minha própria vontade, mas a vontade de meu Pai que me enviou.
I do not do anything [like that] by my own authority. I judge people only according to what I hear [my Father tell me]. I will judge people fairly, because I do not want to please only myself. Instead, I want to please [my Father], who sent me.
31 “Se eu testemunhar sobre mim mesmo, minha testemunha não é válida.
If I were the [only] one to tell people about myself, [people could rightly say that] what I say is not true.
32 É outro que testemunha a meu respeito. Eu sei que o testemunho que ele testemunha a meu respeito é verdadeiro.
But there is someone else who tells people about me. And I know that what he tells people about me is true.
33 Você enviou a John, e ele testemunhou a verdade.
As for you, when you sent messengers to John [the Baptizer to ask about me], he told the truth [about me].
34 Mas o testemunho que recebo não é do homem. Entretanto, digo estas coisas para que você possa ser salvo.
I do not [need that] people tell others [about me]. But instead, I am reminding [you about what John told people about me], in order that you will [believe it and] be saved {[God] will save you}.
35 Ele era a lâmpada ardente e brilhante, e você estava disposto a regozijar-se por um tempo com a luz dele.
[John’s message about me] (OR, [John]) [MET] was [like] a lamp that shines brightly. For a short while you were willing to be made happy [by that message] {to let [that message] make you happy}.
36 Mas o testemunho que tenho é maior do que o de João; pelas obras que o Pai me deu para realizar, as próprias obras que faço, testemunham sobre mim, que o Pai me enviou.
But there is something else that tells you about me. [It should prove who I am] more than what John [said about me]. The miracles [PRS] that [my] Father told me to do, the miracles that I am performing, show (OR, prove) to people that my Father sent me.
37 O próprio Pai, que me enviou, testemunhou a meu respeito. Não ouvistes sua voz em nenhum momento, nem vistes sua forma.
Furthermore, [my] Father, who sent me, tells people about me. You have never heard his voice or seen him.
38 Vós não tendes a palavra dele vivendo em vós, porque não acreditais naquele que ele enviou.
Furthermore, you have not believed in [me], the one he sent. So you have not [believed] his message in your inner beings.
39 “Você pesquisa as Escrituras, porque pensa que nelas você tem a vida eterna; e são elas que testemunham sobre mim. (aiōnios g166)
You carefully study (OR, Study) the Scriptures, because you think that by [studying] them you will [find the way to] have eternal life. And those Scriptures tell people about me! (aiōnios g166)
40 No entanto, você não virá até mim, para que possa ter vida.
But you refuse (to come to me/to believe my message) in order that you may have [eternal] life.
41 Eu não recebo glória dos homens.
It does not [matter to] me whether people praise me.
42 Mas eu vos conheço, que não tendes o amor de Deus em vós mesmos.
But you [want people to praise you]. I know that within yourselves you do not love God.
43 Eu vim em nome de meu Pai, e vós não me recebeis. Se outro vier em seu próprio nome, vós o recebereis.
Although I have come to earth with my Father’s authority [MTY], you do not accept me. But if someone else comes with his own authority [MTY], you accept him!
44 Como podeis acreditar, quem recebe glória uns dos outros, e não buscais a glória que vem do único Deus?
You accept your praising each other, but you do not try to do things that will result in God himself praising you. So (there is no way you can believe [in me]!/how can you believe [my message]?) [RHQ]
45 “Não pense que eu vou acusá-lo ao Pai. Há alguém que te acusa, até mesmo Moisés, em quem você depositou sua esperança.
But do not think that I am the one who will accuse you while [my] Father is listening! No, it is Moses who will accuse you! You thought that he would [defend you].
46 Pois se você acreditasse em Moisés, acreditaria em mim; pois ele escreveu a meu respeito.
Moses wrote about me, so if you had believed what he [wrote], you would have believed what I [said]
47 Mas se não acreditardes nos escritos dele, como acreditareis nas minhas palavras”?
But because you did not believe what he wrote [about me], (you will certainly not believe what I say!/how will you believe what I say?) [RHQ]”
