Jó 31

1 “Eu fiz um pacto com meus olhos; como então devo olhar com luxúria para uma jovem mulher?

I made a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid?

2 Para o que é a parte de Deus acima, e a herança do Todo-Poderoso nas alturas?

For what would be the portion of God from above, and the heritage of the Almighty from on high?

3 Não é uma calamidade para os injustos? e desastre para os trabalhadores da iniqüidade?

Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?

4 Ele não vê meus caminhos, e contar todos os meus passos?

Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 “Se eu tenho andado com falsidade, e meu pé se apressou em enganar

If I have walked with vanity, and my foot hath hasted to deceit —

6 (deixe-me ser pesado em um balanço equilibrado, que Deus possa conhecer minha integridade);

Let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know mine integrity —

7 se meu passo tiver saído do caminho, se meu coração andasse atrás dos meus olhos, se alguma impureza ficou presa às minhas mãos,

If my step hath turned out of the way, and my heart walked after mine eyes, and if any spot hath cleaved to my hands;

8 then deixe-me semear, e deixe outro comer. Sim, que os produtos do meu campo sejam erradicados.

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.

9 “Se meu coração foi seduzido por uma mulher, e eu tenho feito uma espera na porta do meu vizinho,

If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbour's door;

10 e depois deixar minha esposa moer por outro, e deixar outros dormirem com ela.

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11 Pois isso seria um crime hediondo. Sim, seria uma iniquidade ser punido pelos juízes,

For that were a heinous crime; yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

12 pois é um incêndio que consome até a destruição, e que erradicaria todo o meu aumento.

For it is a fire that consumeth unto destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13 “Se eu desprezei a causa de meu servo masculino ou de minha funcionária, quando eles contendiam comigo,

If I did despise the cause of my man-servant, or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me —

14 o que então farei quando Deus se erguer? Quando ele me visitar, o que lhe responderei?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? And when He remembereth, what shall I answer Him?

15 Aquele que me fez no útero não o fez? Não nos moldou um no útero?

Did not He that made me in the womb make him? And did not One fashion us in the womb?

16 “Se eu retive os pobres de seu desejo, ou causaram o fracasso dos olhos da viúva,

If I have withheld aught that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17 ou ter comido meu bocado sozinho, e o sem-pai não comeu

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof —

18 (não, desde minha juventude ele cresceu comigo como com um pai, Eu a guiei desde o ventre de minha mãe);

Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have been her guide from my mother's womb.

19 se eu vi algum perecer por falta de roupas, ou que os necessitados não tinham cobertura;

If I have seen any wanderer in want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;

20 se seu coração não me abençoou, se não tiver sido aquecido com o velo das minhas ovelhas;

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21 se eu levantei minha mão contra os órfãos de pai, porque eu vi minha ajuda no portão;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate;

22 depois deixar meu ombro cair da omoplata, e meu braço ser quebrado do osso.

Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

23 Pois a calamidade de Deus é um terror para mim. Por causa de sua majestade, eu não posso fazer nada.

For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of His majesty I could do nothing.

24 “Se eu fiz do ouro minha esperança, e disse ao ouro fino: “Você é minha confiança”.

If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold: 'Thou art my confidence';

25 Se eu me regozijei porque minha riqueza era grande, e porque minha mão tinha conseguido muito;

If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

26 se eu tiver visto o sol quando brilhou, ou a lua se movendo em esplendor,

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

27 e meu coração tem sido secretamente seduzido, e minha mão jogou um beijo da minha boca;

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, and my mouth hath kissed my hand;

28 isto também seria uma iniquidade a ser punida pelos juízes, pois eu teria negado o Deus que está acima.

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have lied to God that is above.

29 “Se eu me alegrei com a destruição daquele que me odiava, ou me levantei quando o mal o encontrou

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or exulted when evil found him —

30 (certamente não permiti que minha boca pecasse perguntando sua vida com uma maldição);

Yea, I suffered not my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse.

31 se os homens da minha tenda não tiverem dito, “Quem pode encontrar alguém que não tenha sido preenchido com sua carne?

If the men of my tent said not: 'Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his meat?'

32 (o estrangeiro não acampou na rua, mas eu abri minhas portas para o viajante);

The stranger did not lodge in the street; my doors I opened to the roadside.

33 se, como Adam, eu já cobri minhas transgressões, escondendo minha iniqüidade em meu coração,

If after the manner of men I covered my transgressions, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom —

34 porque eu temia a grande multidão, e o desprezo das famílias me aterrorizava, para que eu ficasse em silêncio e não saísse pela porta...

Because I feared the great multitude, and the most contemptible among families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door.

35 oh que eu tinha um para me ouvir! Eis aqui a minha assinatura! Que o Todo-Poderoso me responda! Deixe o acusador escrever minha acusação!

Oh that I had one to hear me! — Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me — and that I had the indictment which mine adversary hath written!

36 Com certeza, eu o carregaria no ombro, e eu a amarraria a mim como uma coroa.

Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown.

37 Eu declararia a ele o número dos meus passos. Eu me aproximaria dele como um príncipe.

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38 Se minha terra gritar contra mim, e seus sulcos choram juntos;

If my land cry out against me, and the furrows thereof weep together;

39 se eu tiver comido suas frutas sem dinheiro, ou causaram a perda da vida de seus proprietários,

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the tillers thereof to be disappointed —

40 let cresce o briers em vez do trigo, e malcheirosa ao invés de cevada”. As palavras de Jó estão terminadas.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and noisome weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
