Jeremias 41

1 Agora, no sétimo mês, Ismael, filho de Nethaniah, filho de Elishama, da descendência real e um dos chefes do rei, e dez homens com ele, vieram a Gedaliah, filho de Ahikam, a Mizpah; e lá comeram pão juntos em Mizpah.

But it happened that in the seventh month Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, from the royal family, and some officers of the king, came—ten men were with him—to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. They ate food together there in Mizpah.

2 Então Ishmael, filho de Netanias, levantou-se e os dez homens que estavam com ele, e atingiu Gedaliah, filho de Ahikam, filho de Shaphan, com a espada, e o matou, a quem o rei da Babilônia havia nomeado governador sobre a terra.

But Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him rose up and attacked Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, with the sword. Ishmael killed Gedaliah, whom the king of Babylon had put in charge of the land.

3 Ismael também matou todos os judeus que estavam com Gedaliah em Mizpah, e os homens caldeus de guerra que foram encontrados lá.

Then Ishmael killed all the Judeans who were with Gedaliah in Mizpah and the Chaldean fighting men found there.

4 No segundo dia depois de ter matado Gedaliah, e nenhum homem sabia disso,

Then it was the second day after the killing of Gedaliah, but no one knew.

5 vieram homens de Shechem, de Shiloh, e de Samaria, mesmo oitenta homens, tendo a barba raspada e as roupas rasgadas, e tendo-se cortado, com ofertas de refeições e incenso na mão, para levá-los à casa de Yahweh.

Some men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria—eighty men who had shaved their beard, torn their clothes, and cut themselves—with food offerings and frankincense in their hands to go to Yahweh's house.

6 Ishmael, filho de Nethaniah, saiu de Mizpah para encontrá-los, chorando o tempo todo enquanto ia, e ao conhecê-los, disse-lhes: “Venham a Gedaliah, o filho de Ahikam”.

So Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them as they went, walking and weeping. Then it happened that as he encountered them, he said to them, “Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam!”

7 Foi assim, quando entraram no meio da cidade, que Ismael, o filho de Nethaniah, os matou e os lançou no meio do poço, ele e os homens que estavam com ele.

It came about that when they came into the city, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them and threw them into a pit, he and the men who were with him.

8 Mas dez homens foram encontrados entre aqueles que disseram a Ismael: “Não nos matem, pois temos lojas escondidas no campo, de trigo, de cevada, de óleo e de mel”. Então ele parou, e não os matou entre seus irmãos.

But there were ten men among them who said to Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for there are provisions of ours in a field: Wheat and barley, oil and honey.” So he did not kill them with their other companions.

9 Agora, o poço no qual Ismael lançou todos os cadáveres dos homens que ele havia matado, ao lado de Gedalias (isto era o que Asa, o rei, havia feito por medo de Baasa, rei de Israel), Ismael, filho de Netanias, encheu-o com aqueles que foram mortos.

The cistern where Ishmael threw all the dead bodies that he had killed, was a large cistern that King Asa dug to make a defense against King Baasha of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it in with the dead.

10 Então Ismael levou cativas todas as pessoas que ficaram em Mizpah, até mesmo as filhas do rei, e todas as pessoas que ficaram em Mizpah, que Nebuzaradan, o capitão da guarda, havia comprometido com Gedaliah, o filho de Ahikam. Ismael, filho de Nethaniah, levou-os cativos e partiu para ir ter com as crianças de Ammon.

Next Ishmael captured all the other people who were in Mizpah, the king's daughters and all the people who were left in Mizpah whom Nebuzaradan the chief guard had assigned to Gedaliah son of Ahikam. So Ishmael son of Nethaniah captured them and went to cross over to the people of Ammon.

11 Mas quando Johanan o filho de Kareah, e todos os capitães das forças que estavam com ele, ouviram falar de todo o mal que Ismael o filho de Nethaniah tinha feito,

But Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him heard of all the harm that Ishmael son of Nethaniah had done.

12 então levaram todos os homens, e foram lutar com Ismael o filho de Nethaniah, e o encontraram junto às grandes águas que estão em Gibeon.

So they took all their men and went to fight against Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They found him at the great pool of Gibeon.

13 Agora, quando todas as pessoas que estavam com Ismael viram Johanan, o filho de Kareah, e todos os capitães das forças que estavam com ele, então ficaram contentes.

Then it happened that when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders who were with him, they were very happy.

14 Então todas as pessoas que Ismael tinha levado cativas de Mizpah se voltaram e voltaram, e foram para Johanan o filho de Kareah.

So all the people whom Ishmael had captured at Mizpah turned around and went to Johanan son of Kareah.

15 Mas Ismael o filho de Nethaniah escapou de Johanan com oito homens, e foi para as crianças de Ammon.

But Ishmael son of Nethaniah fled with eight men from Johanan. He went to the people of Ammon.

16 Então Johanan o filho de Kareah e todos os capitães das forças que estavam com ele levaram todo o resto do povo que ele havia recuperado de Ismael o filho de Nethaniah, de Mizpah, depois de ter matado Gedaliah o filho de Ahikam - os homens de guerra, com as mulheres, as crianças e os eunucos, que ele havia trazido de Gibeon.

Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him took from Mizpah all the people who had been rescued from Ishmael son of Nethaniah. This was after Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam. Johanan and his companions took the strong men, the fighting men, the women and children, and the eunuchs who had been rescued at Gibeon.

17 Eles partiram e viveram em Geruth Chimham, que é de Belém, para entrar no Egito

Then they went and stayed for a while in Geruth Kimham, which is near Bethlehem. They were going to go to Egypt

18 por causa dos caldeus; pois tinham medo deles, pois Ismael, filho de Netanias, havia matado Gedaliah, filho de Ahikam, a quem o rei da Babilônia nomeou governador sobre a terra.

because of the Chaldeans. They were afraid of them since Ishmael son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had put in charge of the land.
