1 James, servo de Deus e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, às doze tribos que estão na Dispersão: Saudações.
James, the seruaunt of God, and of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, to the twelue kinredis, that ben in scatering abrood, helthe.
2 Conte com toda a alegria, meus irmãos, quando você cair em várias tentações,
My britheren, deme ye al ioye, whanne ye fallen in to diuerse temptaciouns, witynge,
3 sabendo que o teste de sua fé produz a resistência.
that the preuyng of youre feith worchith pacience;
4 Deixem que a resistência tenha seu trabalho perfeito, para que vocês possam ser perfeitos e completos, sem nada.
and pacience hath a perfit werk, that ye be perfit and hole, and faile in no thing.
5 Mas se algum de vocês não tiver sabedoria, que peça a Deus, que dá a todos liberalmente e sem repreensão, e ela lhe será dada.
And if ony of you nedith wisdom, axe he of God, which yyueth to alle men largeli, and vpbreidith not; and it schal be youun to hym.
6 Mas que peça com fé, sem qualquer dúvida, pois quem duvida é como uma onda do mar, impulsionada pelo vento e atirada.
But axe he in feith, and doute no thing; for he that doutith, is lijk to a wawe of the see, which is moued and borun a boute of wynde.
7 Pois aquele homem não deve pensar que receberá nada do Senhor.
Therfor gesse not the ilke man, that he schal take ony thing of the Lord.
8 Ele é um homem de dupla mente, instável em todos os seus modos.
A man dowble in soule is vnstable in alle hise weies.
9 Let o irmão em circunstâncias humildes se gloria em sua alta posição;
And a meke brother haue glorie in his enhaunsyng,
10 e o rico, em que se torna humilde, porque como a flor na grama, ele falecerá.
and a riche man in his lownesse; for as the flour of gras he schal passe.
11 Pois o sol nasce com o vento abrasador e murcha a grama; e a flor nela cai, e a beleza de sua aparência perece. Assim, o homem rico também se desvanecerá em suas perseguições.
The sunne roos vp with heete, and driede the gras, and the flour of it felde doun, and the fairnesse of his chere perischide; and so a riche man welewith in hise weies.
12 Bendito é uma pessoa que suporta a tentação, pois quando for aprovado, receberá a coroa da vida que o Senhor prometeu àqueles que o amam.
Blessid is the man, that suffrith temptacioun; for whanne he schal be preued, he schal resseyue the coroun of lijf, which God biheyte to men that louen hym.
13 Que nenhum homem diga quando for tentado, “Eu sou tentado por Deus”, pois Deus não pode ser tentado pelo mal, e ele mesmo não tenta ninguém.
No man whanne he is temptid, seie, that he is temptid of God; for whi God is not a temptere of yuele thingis, for he temptith no man.
14 Mas cada um é tentado quando é atraído por sua própria luxúria e seduzido.
But ech man is temptid, drawun and stirid of his owne coueiting.
15 Então a luxúria, quando concebida, carrega o pecado. O pecado, quando está em pleno crescimento, produz a morte.
Aftirward coueityng, whanne it hath conseyued, bringith forth synne; but synne, whanne it is fillid, gendrith deth.
16 Não se deixem enganar, meus amados irmãos.
Therfor, my most dereworthe britheren, nyle ye erre.
17 Todo dom bom e todo dom perfeito vem de cima, vindo do Pai das luzes, com o qual não pode haver variação nem sombra que se transforma.
Ech good yifte, and ech perfit yifte is from aboue, and cometh doun fro the fadir of liytis, anentis whom is noon other chaungyng, ne ouerschadewyng of reward.
18 De sua própria vontade, ele nos deu à luz pela palavra da verdade, que devemos ser uma espécie de primícias de suas criaturas.
For wilfulli he bigat vs bi the word of treuthe, that we be a bigynnyng of his creature.
19 Portanto, meus amados irmãos, que cada homem seja rápido a ouvir, lento a falar e lento a irar-se;
Wite ye, my britheren moost loued, be ech man swift to here, but slow to speke, and slow to wraththe;
20 pois a raiva do homem não produz a justiça de Deus.
for the wraththe of man worchith not the riytwisnesse of God.
21 Portanto, afastando toda imundícia e transbordamento de maldade, recebam com humildade a palavra implantada, que é capaz de salvar suas almas.
For which thing caste ye awei al vnclennesse, and plentee of malice, and in myldenesse resseyue ye the word that is plauntid, that may saue youre soulis.
22 Mas sejam fazedores da palavra, e não apenas ouvintes, iludindo a si mesmos.
But be ye doeris of the word, and not hereris oneli, disseiuynge you silf.
23 Pois se alguém é um ouvinte da palavra e não um fazedor, é como um homem olhando seu rosto natural em um espelho;
For if ony man is an herere of the word, and not a doere, this schal be licned to a man that biholdith the cheer of his birthe in a mirour;
24 pois ele se vê, e vai embora, e imediatamente esquece que tipo de homem ele era.
for he bihelde hym silf, and wente awei, and anoon he foryat which he was.
25 Mas aquele que olha para a lei perfeita da liberdade e continua, não sendo um ouvinte que esquece, mas um executor do trabalho, este homem será abençoado no que ele faz.
But he that biholdith in the lawe of perfit fredom, and dwellith in it, and is not maad a foryetful herere, but a doere of werk, this schal be blessid in his dede.
26 Se alguém entre vocês se julga religioso enquanto não se refreia, mas engana seu coração, a religião deste homem é inútil.
And if ony man gessith hym silf to be religiouse, and refreyneth not his tunge, but disseyueth his herte, the religioun of him is veyn.
27 A religião pura e imaculada diante de nosso Deus e Pai é esta: visitar os órfãos e as viúvas em sua aflição, e manter a si mesmo sem ser manchado pelo mundo.
A clene religioun, and an vnwemmed anentis God and the fadir, is this, to visite fadirles and modirles children, and widewis in her tribulacioun, and to kepe hym silf vndefoulid fro this world.
