1 De onde vêm as guerras e lutas entre vocês? Eles não vêm de seus prazeres que a guerra em seus membros?
Where do wars and fights among you come from? Do they not come from your passions that wage war among your members?
2 Você cobiça, e não tem. Vocês assassinam e cobiçam, e não podem obter. Vocês lutam e fazem a guerra. Vocês não têm, porque não pedem.
You desire but do not have. You murder and are jealous but cannot obtain what you want. You fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask.
3 Você pede, e não recebe, porque pede com motivos errados, para que possa gastá-lo em seus prazeres.
You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
4 Vocês adúlteros e adúlteras, não sabem que a amizade com o mundo é hostilidade para com Deus? Quem, portanto, quer ser amigo do mundo, se faz inimigo de Deus.
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
5 Ou você acha que a Escritura diz em vão: “O Espírito que vive em nós anseia invejosamente”?
Or do you think that the Scripture speaks in vain? The spirit that dwells in us desires to the point of envy,
6 Mas ele dá mais graça. Por isso diz: “Deus resiste aos orgulhosos, mas dá graça aos humildes”.
but God gives greater grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
7 Portanto, esteja sujeito a Deus. Resista ao diabo, e ele fugirá de você.
Submit yourselves therefore to God, but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Aproximai-vos de Deus, e Ele se aproximará de vós. Limpai vossas mãos, pecadores. Purificai vossos corações, seus duplos.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Lament, chorem e chorem. Que suas risadas se transformem em luto e sua alegria em tristeza.
Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter into mourning, and your joy into gloom.
10 Humilhem-se aos olhos do Senhor, e Ele os exaltará.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
11 Não falem uns contra os outros, irmãos. Aquele que fala contra um irmão e julga seu irmão, fala contra a lei e julga a lei. Mas se você julgar a lei, não é um fazedor da lei, mas um juiz.
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. He who speaks evil against a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. Now if yoʋ judge the law, yoʋ are not a doer of the law but a judge.
12 Somente um é o legislador, que é capaz de salvar e de destruir. Mas quem é você para julgar outro?
There is only one lawgiver—he who is able to save and destroy. But who are yoʋ to judge another?
13 Venha agora, você que diz: “Hoje ou amanhã, vamos entrar nesta cidade e passar um ano lá, comerciar e ter lucro”.
Come now, you who say, “Today and tomorrow let us go to such and such a city, spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”
14 No entanto, vocês não sabem como será sua vida amanhã. Para que é sua vida? Pois você é um vapor que aparece por um pouco de tempo e depois desaparece.
You do not know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
15 Para você deveria dizer: “Se o Senhor quiser, ambos viveremos e faremos isto ou aquilo”.
Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, let us live and do this or that.”
16 Mas agora você se gloria em sua vanglória. Toda essa jactância é maligna.
But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.
17 Para ele, portanto, quem sabe fazer o bem e não o faz, para ele é pecado.
So whoever knows the right thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin.
