Tiago 3
1 Que não sejam muitos de vocês professores, meus irmãos, sabendo que receberemos um julgamento mais pesado.
My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 Pois todos nós tropeçamos em muitas coisas. Quem não tropeça em palavras é uma pessoa perfeita, capaz de refrear todo o corpo também.
For in many things we all offend. If any man offendeth not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
3 De fato, colocamos pedaços na boca dos cavalos para que eles nos obedeçam, e nós guiamos seu corpo inteiro.
Behold, we put bits in the mouths of horses, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
4 Veja, os navios também, apesar de serem tão grandes e serem movidos por ventos fortes, ainda são guiados por um leme muito pequeno, onde quer que o piloto deseje.
Behold also the ships, which though they are so great, and [are] driven by fierce winds, yet they are turned about with a very small helm, withersoever the governor willeth.
5 Portanto, a língua também é um pequeno membro, e ostenta grandes coisas. Veja como um pequeno fogo pode se espalhar para uma grande floresta!
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 E a língua é uma fogueira. O mundo da iniqüidade entre nossos membros é a língua, que profana todo o corpo, e inflama o curso da natureza, e é incendiada pela Geena. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire from hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Para todo tipo de animal, pássaro, coisa rasteira e criatura do mar é domada, e foi domada pela humanidade;
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of animals in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind:
8 mas ninguém pode domar a língua. É um mal inquieto, cheio de veneno mortal.
But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Com ele abençoamos nosso Deus e Pai, e com ele amaldiçoamos os homens que são feitos à imagem de Deus.
With this we bless God, even the Father; and with this we curse men, who are made after the similitude of God.
10 Da mesma boca sai a bênção e a maldição. Meus irmãos, estas coisas não deveriam ser assim.
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Será que da mesma abertura sai uma fonte de água fresca e amarga?
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter?
12 Uma figueira, meus irmãos, pode produzir azeitonas, ou uma videira figos? Assim, nenhuma fonte produz tanto água salgada quanto água doce.
Can the fig-tree, my brethren, bear olive-berries? or a vine, figs? so no fountain [can] yield both salt water and fresh.
13 Quem é sábio e compreensivo entre vocês? Deixem-no mostrar por sua boa conduta que seus atos são feitos com gentileza e sabedoria.
Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show by a good deportment his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 Mas se você tem ciúmes amargos e ambição egoísta em seu coração, não se vanglorie e não minta contra a verdade.
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 Esta sabedoria não é aquela que vem de cima, mas é terrena, sensual e demoníaca.
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, demoniacal.
16 Pois onde há ciúme e ambição egoísta, há confusão e todo ato maligno.
For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work.
17 Mas a sabedoria que vem de cima é primeiro pura, depois pacífica, gentil, razoável, cheia de misericórdia e bons frutos, sem parcialidade, e sem hipocrisia.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 Agora o fruto da retidão é semeado em paz por aqueles que fazem a paz.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by them that make peace.
