Gênesis 28
1 Isaac chamou Jacob, abençoou-o e ordenou-lhe: “Não tomarás esposa das filhas de Canaã”.
Then Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, —and commanded him and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2 Levanta-te, vai a Paddan Aram, à casa de Bethuel, o pai de tua mãe. Tire de lá uma esposa das filhas de Laban, o irmão de sua mãe.
Rise, go thy way to Padan-aram to the house of Bethuel, thy mother’s father, —and take thee from thence a wife, of the daughters of Laban, thy mother’s brother.
3 Que Deus Todo-Poderoso te abençoe, te faça frutificar e te multiplique, para que sejas uma companhia de povos,
And, GOD Almighty, bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, so shalt thou become a multitude of peoples.
4 e te dê a bênção de Abraão, a ti e à tua descendência contigo, para que possas herdar a terra onde viajas, que Deus deu a Abraão”.
And may he give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee, —that thou mayest possess the land of thy sojournings, which God gave to Abraham.
5 Isaac mandou Jacob embora. Ele foi para Paddan Aram para Laban, filho de Bethuel, o sírio, irmão de Rebekah, mãe de Jacob e Esaú.
So Isaac sent away Jacob, and he took his journey to Padan-aram, —unto Laban son of Bethuel, the Syrian, brother of Rebekah, mother of Jacob and Esau.
6 Agora Esaú viu que Isaac havia abençoado Jacó e o mandado embora para Paddan Aram, para levar-lhe uma esposa de lá, e que ao abençoá-lo ele lhe deu uma ordem, dizendo: “Não tomarás esposa das filhas de Canaã”;
And Esau beheld that Isaac, when he blessed Jacob, and sent him to Padan-aram, to take to himself from thence a wife, that in blessing him, he laid command upon him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7 e que Jacó obedeceu a seu pai e sua mãe, e foi para Paddan Aram.
And that Jacob hearkened unto his father and unto his mother, —and took his journey to Padan-aram.
8 Esaú viu que as filhas de Canaã não agradaram a Isaac, seu pai.
So then Esau beheld that displeasing, were the daughters of Caanan, —in the eyes of Isaac his father:
9 Então Esaú foi para Ismael, e levou, além das esposas que tinha, Mahalath a filha de Ismael, filho de Abraão, irmã de Nebaioth, para ser sua esposa.
Esau therefore went unto Ishmael, —and took Mahalath daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham sister of Nebaioth, to himself to wife, in addition to the wives that he had.
10 Jacob saiu de Beersheba, e foi em direção a Haran.
So Jacob went forth from Beer-sheba, and journeyed towards Haran.
11 Ele chegou a um certo lugar, e lá ficou a noite toda, porque o sol se tinha posto. Ele pegou uma das pedras do lugar, colocou-a sob sua cabeça e deitou-se naquele lugar para dormir.
And he lighted on a place, and tarried the night there, because the sun had gone in, —and he took of the stones of the place, and put for his pillow, and lay down in that place,
12 Ele sonhou e viu uma escada colocada sobre a terra, e seu topo alcançou o céu. Eis que os anjos de Deus estavam subindo e descendo sobre ela.
And he dreamed, and lo! a stairway, planted earthwards, with, its top, reaching towards the heavens, —and lo! messengers of God, ascending and descending thereon;
13 Eis que Javé estava acima dela e disse: “Eu sou Javé, o Deus de Abraão, teu pai, e o Deus de Isaac. Darei a você e a seus descendentes a terra sobre a qual você se deita”.
and lo! Yahweh, standing by him, —and he said, I, am Yahweh, God of Abraham thy father and God of Isaac, —The land whereon, thou, art lying, to thee, will I give it and to thy seed;
14 Sua descendência será como o pó da terra, e você se espalhará para o oeste, para o leste, para o norte e para o sul. Em você e em sua prole, todas as famílias da terra serão abençoadas.
And thy seed shall become as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt break forth westward and eastward, and northward and southward, —And all the families of the ground shall be blessed in thee and in thy seed.
15 Eis que eu estou com vocês, e os manterei, onde quer que vão, e os trarei novamente para esta terra. Pois não vos deixarei até que eu tenha feito aquilo de que vos falei”.
Lo! then, I, am with thee, so will I keep thee in every place whithersoever thou mayest go, and will bring thee back unto this soil, —For I will not forsake thee until I have done that of which I have spoken to thee.
16 Jacob acordou de seu sono e disse: “Certamente Yahweh está neste lugar, e eu não sabia”.
And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and said. Surely, Yahweh was in this place, And I, knew it not.
17 Ele estava com medo, e disse: “Como este lugar é incrível! Esta não é outra coisa senão a casa de Deus, e esta é a porta do céu”.
And he feared and said, How fearful is this place! None other this, than the house of God! Nor this than the gate of the heavens
18 Jacob levantou-se cedo pela manhã, pegou a pedra que havia colocado sob sua cabeça, colocou-a para um pilar e derramou óleo em sua parte superior.
So Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone which he had put for his pillow, and put it for a pillar, —and poured out oil upon the top thereof;
19 Ele chamou o nome daquele lugar de Betel, mas o nome da cidade foi Luz no início.
and called the name of that place—Beth-el, —nevertheless, Luz, was the name of the city, aforetime.
20 Jacob fez um voto, dizendo: “Se Deus estará comigo, e me manterá assim que eu for, e me dará pão para comer, e roupas para vestir,
And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, —If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way whereon, I, am going, and give me bread to eat and raiment to put on;
21 para que eu volte à casa de meu pai em paz, e Yahweh será meu Deus,
and I come back in prosperity unto the house of my father, Then will Yahweh prove to be my God, —
22 então esta pedra, que eu preparei para um pilar, será a casa de Deus. De tudo o que vocês me derem, eu certamente lhes darei um décimo”.
And, this stone which I have put for a pillar, shall be the house of God, —And, of all which thou shalt give me, a tenth, will I tithe unto thee.
