Esdras 4

1 Agora quando os adversários de Judá e Benjamim ouviram que os filhos do cativeiro estavam construindo um templo para Javé, o Deus de Israel,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto the LORD, the God of Israel;

2 eles se aproximaram de Zorobabel, e dos chefes de família dos pais, e lhes disseram: “Construamos com vocês, pois buscamos seu Deus como vocês; e temos feito sacrifícios a ele desde os dias de Esar Haddon, rei da Assíria, que nos trouxe até aqui”.

then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said unto them: 'Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.'

3 Mas Zerubabel, Jeshua e os demais chefes de família dos pais de Israel lhes disseram: “Vocês não têm nada a ver conosco na construção de uma casa para nosso Deus; mas nós mesmos juntos construiremos para Javé, o Deus de Israel, como nos ordenou o rei Ciro, o rei da Pérsia”.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said unto them: 'Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.'

4 Então o povo da terra enfraqueceu as mãos do povo de Judá, e os perturbou na construção.

Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and harried them while they were building,

5 Contrataram conselheiros contra eles para frustrar seu propósito durante todos os dias de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, mesmo até o reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.

and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

6 No reinado de Assuero, no início de seu reinado, eles escreveram uma acusação contra os habitantes de Judá e Jerusalém.

And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

7 Nos dias de Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel e o resto de seus companheiros escreveram a Artaxerxes rei da Pérsia; e a redação da carta foi escrita em sírio e entregue na língua síria.

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Aramaic character, and set forth in the Aramaic tongue.

8 Reum o chanceler e Shimshai o escriba escreveram uma carta contra Jerusalém para Artaxerxes, o rei, como se segue.

Rehum the commander and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort —

9 Então Rehum o chanceler, Shimshai o escriba, e o resto de seus companheiros, os dinaítas, e os afarsatitas, os tarpelitas, os afarsitas, os arqueólogos, os babilônios, os shushanchitas, os dehaítas, os elamitas,

then wrote Rehum the commander, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinites, and the Apharesattechites, the Tarpelites, the Apharesites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehites, the Elamites,

10 e o resto das nações que o grande e nobre Osnappar trouxe e estabeleceu na cidade de Samaria, e no resto do país além do rio, e assim por diante, escreveu.

and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asenappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and the rest that are in the country beyond the River: — 'And now —

11 Esta é a cópia da carta que eles enviaram: Ao Rei Artaxerxes, de seus servos, o povo além do rio.

this is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king — thy servants the men beyond the River — and now

12 Seja conhecido do rei que os judeus que vieram de você vieram até nós em Jerusalém. Eles estão construindo a cidade rebelde e má, e terminaram os muros e consertaram as fundações.

be it known unto the king, that the Jews that came up from thee are come to us unto Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and are digging out the foundations.

13 Seja agora conhecido do rei que se esta cidade for construída e os muros terminados, eles não pagarão tributo, costume ou pedágio, e no final será prejudicial para os reis.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, impost, or toll, and so thou wilt endamage the revenue of the kings.

14 Agora porque comemos o sal do palácio e não é apropriado para nós ver a desonra do rei, por isso enviamos e informamos ao rei,

Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and announced to the king,

15 que a busca pode ser feita no livro dos registros de seus pais. Você verá no livro dos registros, e saberá que esta cidade é uma cidade rebelde, e prejudicial para os reis e províncias, e que eles iniciaram rebeliões dentro dela no passado. É por isso que esta cidade foi destruída.

that search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.

16 Informamos ao rei que se esta cidade for construída e as muralhas terminarem, então não terá posse além do rio. '

We announce to the king that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, by this means thou shalt have no portion beyond the River.'

17 Então o rei enviou uma resposta para Rehum, o chanceler, e para Shimshai, o escriba, e para o resto de seus companheiros que vivem em Samaria, e no resto do país além do rio: Paz.

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the commander, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the River: 'Peace, and now

18 A carta que você nos enviou foi lida claramente antes de mim.

the letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

19 Decidi, e a pesquisa foi feita, e foi descoberto que esta cidade fez insurreição contra reis no passado, e que rebeliões e revoltas foram feitas nela.

And I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

20 There também foram poderosos reis sobre Jerusalém, que governaram todo o país além do rio; e tributo, costumes e pedágio foram pagos a eles.

There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, impost, and toll, was paid unto them.

21 Faça agora um decreto para fazer cessar estes homens, e que esta cidade não seja construída até que um decreto seja feito por mim.

Make ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me.

22 Tenha cuidado para não ser descuidado ao fazê-lo. Por que os danos devem crescer para a ferida dos reis? '

And take heed that ye be not slack herein; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?'

23 Então, quando a cópia da carta do rei Artaxerxes foi lida antes de Rehum, Shimshai o escriba, e seus companheiros, eles foram apressados a Jerusalém para os judeus, e os obrigaram a cessar pela força das armas.

Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

24 Em seguida, os trabalhos pararam na casa de Deus que fica em Jerusalém. Parou até o segundo ano do reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
