Deuteronômio 25
1 Se houver controvérsia entre os homens, e eles vierem a julgamento e os juízes os julgarem, então justificarão os justos e condenarão os ímpios.
If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court to be judged, so that the innocent may be acquitted and the guilty condemned.
2 Será, se o ímpio for digno de ser espancado, que o juiz o fará deitar-se e espancar diante de seu rosto, de acordo com sua maldade, por número.
If the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall have him lie down and be flogged in his presence with the number of lashes his crime warrants.
3 Ele pode condená-lo a não mais do que quarenta riscas. Ele não deve dar mais, para que, se der mais e bater nele mais do que tantas listras, seu irmão não seja degradado à sua vista.
He may receive no more than forty lashes, lest your brother be beaten any more than that and be degraded in your sight.
4 Você não deve amordaçar o boi quando ele pisar o grão.
Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
5 Se irmãos morarem juntos, e um deles morrer e não tiver filho, a esposa do defunto não se casará fora com um estranho. O irmão de seu marido deve ir até ela, levá-la como esposa e cumprir o dever de irmão de um marido para com ela.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
6 Será que o primogênito que ela tiver suceda em nome de seu irmão falecido, que seu nome não seja apagado de Israel.
The first son she bears will carry on the name of the dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
7 Se o homem não quiser levar a esposa de seu irmão, então a esposa de seu irmão irá até o portão dos anciãos e dirá: “O irmão de meu marido se recusa a criar para seu irmão um nome em Israel”. Ele não cumprirá o dever de um irmão do marido para comigo”.
But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, she is to go to the elders at the city gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel. He is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law for me.”
8 Então os anciãos de sua cidade o chamarão, e falarão com ele. Se ele se levantar e disser: “Eu não quero levá-la”,
Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak with him. If he persists and says, “I do not want to marry her,”
9 então a esposa de seu irmão virá até ele na presença dos anciãos, soltará sua sandália do pé e cuspirá em seu rosto. Ela responderá e dirá: “Assim será feito com o homem que não construir a casa de seu irmão”.
his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, remove his sandal, spit in his face, and declare, “This is what is done to the man who will not maintain his brother’s line.”
10 Seu nome será chamado em Israel: “A casa daquele que teve sua sandália removida”.
And his family name in Israel will be called “The House of the Unsandaled.”
11 Quando os homens lutam um contra o outro, e a esposa de um se aproxima para entregar seu marido da mão daquele que o golpeia, e estende sua mão, e o agarra por suas partes privadas,
If two men are fighting, and the wife of one steps in to rescue her husband from the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his genitals,
12 então você cortará a mão dela. Seu olho não terá piedade.
you are to cut off her hand. You must show her no pity.
13 Você não deverá ter em sua bolsa pesos diversos, um pesado e um leve.
You shall not have two differing weights in your bag, one heavy and one light.
14 Você não terá em sua casa medidas diversas, uma grande e uma pequena.
You shall not have two differing measures in your house, one large and one small.
15 Você deverá ter um peso perfeito e justo. Você terá uma medida perfeita e justa, para que seus dias sejam longos na terra que Yahweh seu Deus lhe dá.
You must maintain accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
16 Para todos os que fazem tais coisas, todos os que fazem injustamente, são uma abominação para Yahweh seu Deus.
For everyone who behaves dishonestly in regard to these things is detestable to the LORD your God.
17 Lembre-se do que Amalek fez com você quando você saiu do Egito,
Remember what the Amalekites did to you along your way from Egypt,
18 como ele o conheceu pelo caminho, e atingiu o mais recuado de todos vocês, todos os que estavam fracos atrás de você, quando você estava desmaiado e cansado; e ele não temia a Deus.
how they met you on your journey when you were tired and weary, and they attacked all your stragglers; they had no fear of God.
19 Portanto será, quando Javé, vosso Deus, vos tiver dado descanso de todos os vossos inimigos ao redor, na terra que Javé, vosso Deus, vos dá por herança para possuí-la, que apagareis a memória de Amaleque de debaixo do céu. Você não deve esquecer.
When the LORD your God gives you rest from the enemies around you in the land that He is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you are to blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
