2 Samuel 20

1 Aconteceu que estava ali um malvado, cujo nome era Sheba, filho de Bichri, um benjamita; e ele tocou a trombeta, e disse: “Não temos parte em David, nem herdamos no filho de Jesse. Cada homem para suas tendas, Israel”!

And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Seba, the son of Bochri, a man of Jemini: and he sounded the trumpet, and said: We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai: return to thy dwellings, O Israel.

2 Assim, todos os homens de Israel passaram a seguir Davi, e seguiram Sabá, filho de Bicri; mas os homens de Judá se uniram ao seu rei, desde o Jordão até Jerusalém.

And all Israel departed from David, and followed Seba the son of Bochri: but the men of Juda stuck to their king from the Jordan unto Jerusalem.

3 David veio a sua casa em Jerusalém; e o rei levou as dez concubinas, que ele havia deixado para manter a casa, e as colocou sob custódia e lhes deu sustento, mas não as acolheu. Então elas ficaram fechadas até o dia de sua morte, vivendo na viuvez.

And when the king was come into his house at Jerusalem, he took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, allowing them provisions: and he went not in unto them, but they were shut up unto the day of their death living in widowhood.

4 Então o rei disse a Amasa: “Chame-me os homens de Judá juntos dentro de três dias, e esteja aqui presente”.

And the king said to Amasa: Assemble to me all the men of Juda against the third day, and be thou here present.

5 Então Amasa foi chamar os homens de Judá juntos, mas ele ficou mais tempo do que o tempo estabelecido que lhe havia sido designado.

So Amasa went to assemble the men of Juda, but he tarried beyond the set time which the king had appointed him.

6 David disse a Abishai: “Agora Sheba, o filho de Bichri, nos fará mais mal do que Absalom”. Pegue os servos de seu senhor e o persiga, para que ele não se transforme em cidades fortificadas, e escape de nossa vista”.

And David said to Abisai: Now will Seba the son of Bochri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou therefore the servants of thy lord, and pursue after him, lest he find fenced cities, and escape us.

7 Os homens de Joab saíram atrás dele com os queretitas, os peletitas e todos os homens poderosos; e saíram de Jerusalém para perseguir Sebá, o filho de Bichri.

So Joab’s men went out with him, and the Cerethi and the Phelethi: and all the valiant men went out of Jerusalem to pursue after Seba the son of Bochri.

8 Quando eles estavam na grande pedra que está em Gibeon, Amasa veio ao seu encontro. Joabe estava vestido com seu traje de guerra que havia colocado, e sobre ele estava uma faixa com uma espada presa na cintura em sua bainha; e enquanto ele ia junto, caiu para fora.

And when they were at the great stone which is in Gabaon, Amasa coming met them. And Joab had on a close coat of equal length with his habit, and over it was girded with a sword hanging down to his flank, in a scabbard, made in such manner as to come out with the least motion and strike.

9 Joab disse a Amasa: “Está tudo bem contigo, meu irmão?” Joab pegou Amasa pela barba com sua mão direita para beijá-lo.

And Joab said to Amasa: God save thee, my brother. And he took Amasa by the chin with his right hand to kiss him.

10 Mas Amasa não deu atenção à espada que estava na mão de Joab. Então ele o golpeou com ela no corpo e derramou suas entranhas no chão, e não o golpeou novamente; e ele morreu. Joab e Abishai seu irmão perseguiram Sheba, o filho de Bichri.

But Amasa did not take notice of the sword, which Joab had, and he struck him in the side, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and gave him not a second wound, and he died. And Joab, and Abisai his brother pursued after Seba the son of Bochri.

11 Um dos jovens de Joab ficou ao seu lado, e disse: “Aquele que favorece Joab, e aquele que é por David, que siga Joab!

In the mean time some men of Joab’s company stopping at the dead body of Amasa, said: Behold he that would have been in Joab’s stead the companion of David.

12 Amasa estava chafurdando em seu sangue no meio da rodovia. Quando o homem viu que todo o povo estava parado, ele levou Amasa para fora da rodovia e jogou uma roupa sobre ele quando viu que todos que passavam por ele estavam parados.

And Amasa imbrued with blood, lay in the midst of the way. A certain man saw this that all the people stood still to look upon him, so he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and covered him with a garment, that they who passed might not stop on his account.

13 Quando ele foi retirado da rodovia, todas as pessoas foram atrás de Joab para perseguir Sheba, o filho de Bichri.

And when he was removed out of the way, all the people went on following Joab to pursue after Seba the son of Bochri.

14 Ele passou por todas as tribos de Israel até Abel, até Beth Maacah, e todos os beritas. Eles se reuniram e foram também atrás dele.

Now he had passed through all the tribes of Israel unto Abela and Bethmaacha: and all the chosen men were gathered together unto him.

15 Eles vieram e o cercaram em Abel de Beth Maacah, e levantaram um monte contra a cidade, e ele ficou contra a muralha; e todas as pessoas que estavam com Joabe bateram no muro para jogá-lo abaixo.

And they came, and besieged him in Abela, and in Bethmaacha, and they cast up works round the city, and the city was besieged: and all the people that were with Joab, laboured to throw down the walls.

16 Então uma mulher sábia gritou para fora da cidade: “Ouçam, ouçam! Por favor, diga a Joab: “Chegue aqui, para que eu possa falar com você”.

And a wise woman cried out from the city: Hear, hear, and say to Joab: Come near hither, and I will speak with thee.

17 Ele se aproximou dela; e a mulher disse: “Você é Joab?” Ele respondeu: “Eu sou”. Então ela lhe disse: “Ouça as palavras de seu servo”. Ele respondeu: “Estou ouvindo”.

And when he was come near to her, she said to him: Art thou Joab? And he answered: I am. And she spoke thus to him: Hear the words of thy handmaid. He answered: I do hear.

18 Então ela falou, dizendo: “Antigamente diziam: 'Certamente pedirão conselho na Abel', e assim resolveram um assunto.

And she again said: A saying was used in the old proverb: They that inquire, let them inquire in Abela: and so they made an end.

19 Eu estou entre os que são pacíficos e fiéis em Israel. Procura-se destruir uma cidade e uma mãe em Israel. Por que você engolirá a herança de Javé”?

Am not I she that answer truth in Israel, and thou seekest to destroy the city, and to overthrow a mother in Israel? Why wilt thou throw down the inheritance of the Lord?

20 Joab respondeu: “Longe de mim, longe de mim, que eu deva engolir ou destruir”.

And Joab answering said: God forbid, God forbid that I should, I do not throw down, nor destroy.

21 O assunto não é assim. Mas um homem da região montanhosa de Efraim, Sabá, o filho de Bichri, levantou a mão contra o rei, até mesmo contra Davi. Basta entregá-lo, e eu irei embora da cidade”. A mulher disse a Joab: “Eis que sua cabeça será jogada sobre a parede”.

The matter is not so, but a man of mount Ephraim, Seba the son of Bochri by name, hath lifted up his hand against king David: deliver him only, and we will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab: Behold his head shall be thrown to thee from the wall.

22 Então a mulher foi a todas as pessoas em sua sabedoria. Eles cortaram a cabeça de Sheba, o filho de Bichri, e a jogaram fora para Joab. Ele tocou a trombeta, e eles foram dispersos da cidade, cada homem para sua tenda. Então Joabe voltou para Jerusalém, para o rei.

So she went to all the people, and spoke to them wisely: and they cut off the head of Seba the son of Bochri, and cast it out to Joab. And he sounded the trumpet, and they departed from the city, every one to their home: and Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

23 Now Joab estava sobre todo o exército de Israel, Benaiah, filho de Jehoiada, sobre os queretitas e sobre os peletitas,

So Joab was over all the army of Israel: and Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethites and Phelethites,

24 Adoram estava sobre os homens sujeitos ao trabalho forçado, Jehosafá, filho de Ahilud, era o registrador,

But Aduram over the tributes: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder.

25 Sheva era escriba, Zadok e Abiathar eram sacerdotes,

And Siva was scribe: and Sadoc and Abiathar, priests.

26 e Ira, o jairite, era ministro-chefe de Davi.

And Ira the Jairite was the priest of David.
